Good price for the location and size of the house. David was very accomodating and easy to communicate with.
What a fabulous comfortable laid back experience. The house was equipped with everything we needed. Definitely a great place for children. When we come back to the island we will rent the house again.:)
Once again our experience with David was excellent! He was very accommodating of our flight schedule for checking in and checking out of the place. He promptly brought a brand new barbecuer once we flagged him that the old one wasn't working. And the place was in excellent shape when we got there - even the Mango tree in the back yard was full of ripe Mangos!
We stayed for 2 nights in Turks Hale. The property was perfect for the 4 of us and David allowed us to bring my son's cat since they were moving from the island at the end of our stay. The house is very large and had everything we needed to be comfortable. David met us at the house when we arrived and told us to pick as many mangos as we could eat (they were delicious) and where the beach was for watching sunsets and snorkeling. The access for watching the beautiful sunsets was directly across the street and the swimming/snorkeling beach was about a 1/4 mile south. A very easy walk. All communication with David was prompt and positive.
Some things about the property I feel needs to be pointed out. This is a Hawaiian house, not a hotel. This means that you will see and hear noises not normally seen or heard in a resort. Geckos, roaches, frogs and birds are everywhere outside. You will find the occasional gecko visiting inside and if you leave the lights on outside and inside in the evening, a roach or 2 will find it's way inside. This is all typical of actual living in a tropical environment. It in no way will make your stay any less enjoyable as long as you are prepared to see these things. The entire main floor has screens only on the very large windows, there are not actual windows. This took some getting used to for me as I didn't feel secure. However the house is in a safe nice area and there were no issues. Additionally all the doors do lock. The house is a little worn, but very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The downstairs bedroom is very large and also serves as a rec area with the pool table and wet bar. The upstairs bedroom has two additional beds out on the lanai. The only way to access those beds is through the main bedroom. Good place for children to sleep, but would be awkward for another couple. There are ceiling fans in all rooms and with the windows the house stayed a comfortable temperature. The house is on a busy road (main road through town) but it sits back and is pretty private. Road noise was not an issue for any of us. Waking up to all the outside noises of the birds and frogs was very pleasant.
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would stay there again if we return to the big island.
This house worked really well for our group of 6 - one family of 4 and one of 2. It has a certain uniqueness which adds to its charm. The house is in a fantastic location with easy access to the vibrant heart of Kona as well as a walk or very short drive to a great snorkeling beach where we swam with sea turtles and saw many beautiful reef fish.
The kitchen has everything you need and the pool table makes for a nice break from the beach! Although we didn't meet David we spoke a few times and he was very friendly and helpful. David's suggestion of the Kona Inn for our last night's meal turned out really well. Highly recommended!
Our family group of 6 stayed for 2 weeks at the end of 2014. The place was perfect for us, with plenty of space, a big kitchen, and a convenient location. As other reviews have noted, road noise is an occasional mild annoyance. The house is not cosmetically perfect - it is fraying around the edges a bit - but none of this affects function. Beds, bed linens, and towels were good. There is sleeping privacy for 2 couples. The sofa sleepers in the living room are uncomfortable. Just across the street is beach access where you can snorkel over moderately diverse healthy fringing coral reef. Ask a neighbor or David to show you the place to enter the water. The bottom line is that everyone in our group wants to repeat the trip again next year.
The house was beautiful, clean , and very spacious. Although there is some traffic I did not find it an issue. This house is a great deal for the price and it is in a great location.

About the Host, David
My wife and I moved here after having vacationed in Kona ourselves. The weather is warm and so is the water temperature year round. Kona is a community of good health, from all the out door activity's, both ocean and on land, and healthy eating. We both grew up on the coast of southern California which we thought was paradise. After having spent time here in Kona during the winter months we found that this was true paradise. We decided we wanted to be a part of the Island life. Now we have a place for others to come stay and find what we fell in love with. It has it all from fishing, snorkeling, hiking to exploring the volcanoes and water falls.
