About this listing
We are not a fancy hotel, but we love the opportunity to share our space as an affordable lodging option when you visit LA. The apartment is located in a nice, safe, neighborhood close to LAX and about a mile from the beach.
If you haven't visited LA before, you may not know this, but the greater LA area is vast and dense: 33,954 sq mi (87,490 km2) with around 19 million people. No matter what landmarks you want to visit, there is no one 'perfect' location in LA. 99% of the time, you will have to cover long distances to get from one interesting point to the other, and unfortunately LA is not a great city for public transportation or for pedestrians. That been said, El Segundo is a clean and safe area near the beach, with access to freeways and all the basics nearby.
That been said,
About the room/apartment:

Private parking is also available, please let us know if you need it when you inquire.
•Although we are pretty close to LAX, all windows in the apartment have double glass and they do a good job isolating exterior noise.
•Since the apartment it's only a mile from the water, you can walk there, or if you are into biking you can rent our bikes for a flat fee of $10 per person per day. They include basket, helmets, on-the-go pump, and comfortable seats. You can stroll away and have a picnic by the beach without worrying to run out of time for the return.
•Our check-in and out times are flexible, so when inquiring just let us know what time you are planning to arrive/depart and we can work with your schedule. We've had guests check in at 11PM and others check out at 8PM. Anything is workable if we communicate.
•We are a couple in our mid twenties, studying and working full time. We work/study from home a lot of times. Vegetarian/vegan friendly (we're pescatarians) Pretty relaxed. We have done plenty traveling around the world and have stayed with Couchsurfers and with Airbnbers.
About the location:
•Very close to LAX -specially useful if you come often for business but don't want to stay at a hotel.
•If we are available (depending on the time of the day) we can pick you up for $10. Please let me know when you inquire.
-A shuttle to/from our place is usually around $15-$20.
-A taxi around $25-30.
-You can also get here for $1 (I'm not kidding!) but is through Public Transportation and it might be a time-consuming trip. But heck, if you have the time, why not?!
•Walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants, a small art museum, and more. Also about a mile walk to the beach. Bike paths by the ocean can take you to Marina del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica to the north, or Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo Beach to the South.
•The 109 bus typically runs exactly on time, and can take you to nearby stores, Mariposa Metro/Subway Station, and more. The 109 bus stop is just steps away from the house.
•Also very close to the 105 and 405 freeways in case you are renting a car.
Hope you decide to stay with us, thanks for reading!
Guests will have access to our parking spot, wifi, kitchen, and common areas (basically the entire apartment except our room)
Interaction with Guests
This is a shared apartment, so we are home every night. We often work from home, so you can find us home a couple days a week. If our guests want to interact, we are happy to share stories about the city, or provide recommendations for places where to go visit, eat, etc. If out guests are more reserved, we totally honor that and we are happy to respect your space.
We live in a big city, but in a neighborhood that feels like a small town. A 5 minute walk from the apartment, and you can get to 'Downtown El Segundo' where there are some restaurants, bars, library, small art gallery, and you see all kind of people, from the Aerospace Engineers working nearby to the dudes in bikes and surfboards :) Thursdays also bring a cute farmers market to the area.
If you haven't visited LA before, you may not know this, but the greater LA area is 33,954 sq mi (87,490 km2) with around 19 million people. No matter what landmarks you want to visit, there is no one 'perfect; location in LA. 99% of the time, you will have to cover long distances to get from one interesting point to the other. Unfortunately, LA is not a great city for public transportation or for pedestrians.
If you can, rent a car. 15 minute walk from our apartment there is a car rental (Enterprise) and we have had a great experience with them in terms of service, price, quality.
That been said, if you want to take public transportation, there are bus stops a minute from the house. Those buses can take you to: nearby beaches, metro station where you can catch the subway to downtown/Hollowyood, or the Transit Center, where you can connect to all main bus lines.
Also, there is always Uber and cabs available
No shoes inside the house. No smoking or pets inside. I love dogs and cats, but unfortunately our lease does not allow us to have pets.
You can use anything in the house, just leave it as you found it. If you have a board or anything bulky you are welcomed to store it in the garage.
Although there are some bars within walking distance -and plenty a cab ride/ uber away, yay!- please don't be loud after 11ish, late night.
What a wonderful experience! Paula and Bernardo were so great to us and their home is lovely. The room is really nice and the bed is so comfortable! Everything was very clean and they made sure we had everything we need. Paula borrowed me her bike so I could go to beach and explore the area. The area is very nice. Very close to the beach and a lot of restaurants, coffee shops. I couldn't think of a better place to stay!! I wish Paula and Bernardo all the best and maybe I'll see you again some day.
I felt very welcomed by Paula and Bernardo. I arrived very early from overseas and Paula was there to greet me. They quickly responded to my questions before I arrived and were helpful while I was there. Their home and the room were as portrayed on the website.
Paula and Bernardo were so quiet that one morning I wasn't even aware they had gotten up and left the apartment.
Absolutely fantastic couple who made me feel so welcome on my first trip to the U.S.
They are so helpful and very knowledgable, Paula's recommendations of things to see and do were awesome and I made great use of time by taking her advice
Paula is warmhearted and Bernardo is a smiling big boy. They are very nice to us. The house is clean and the bedroom is spacious. We feel completety at easy in their house. It's true that the apartment is located close to the airport, but we don't notice much noise in the double-layer glassed bedroom. On the contrarary, the clean and beautiful small town of El segundo made us like this place very much.
They are very nice couple. We got useful information from them. The room is very comfortable and clean. If we have next chance to visit LA, we really want to live there again.
Nice neighborhood close to the airport and not too far from the beach, in a safe location. The house is easy to find, has a parking, and is clean. The proximity with the airport was not a problem and the earplugs made the job. Main street is at the corner with a nice coffee shop for breakfast or a cup of coffee. Paula and Bernardo are nice hosts.
About the Host, Paula & Bernardo
We are a couple from Chile, in our mid twenties :)
Paula works as a project manager in a small software company, and Bernardo studies mechanical engineering nearby.
We have been living in LA for the last couple of years, although we've done a fair share of traveling throughout South America, the States, Europe, and Japan (planning on expanding this list soon!)
Many times we just stare at the map on the hallway, trying to figure where to jump next. We've hosted and been hosted numerous times and love the opportunity to explore new spaces.
Now we are in a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment in LA, super close to the airport and about a mile from the beach -yay!- We are looking forward to host if you need some down time in between LAX connections, want to chill by the beach, or looking to get to know the city.
