We had a lovely time staying for 2 nights in Michele's tastefully decorated studio apartment, which is really more like a one-bedroom. I'd highly recommend it for a romantic getaway. It was immaculately clean, toasty warm and had everything we needed. The bathroom felt almost regal, very fancy fixtures, etc. The bedroom has a sweet remote-controlled electric fireplace. All the knives, utensils, cookware etc were of the highest quality & it made preparing food a joy.
Michele was always prompt in response time and you could tell that she really loved the place, and had put a lot of care & love into it.
The apartment is situated directly above a fantastic, art-filled little café that serves delicious fair-trade, organic coffee. The staff are very sweet & a lot of writers populate the place.
It's very close to Ottawa, but I'd really recommend Michele's place if you are planning a trip to Spa Nordik over in Chelsea—which we were. It is a gorgeous 20-minute drive between the Spa and Michele's through wooded Gatineau Park. We actually didn't even go into Ottawa, which was fine with us for the purpose of this trip.
Aylmer itself is a sweet, quaint little spot near the Ottawa River (walkable) with some great-looking restaurants (Szechuan, sushi, etc) that we definitely would have checked out had we stayed longer.
I hope we will return and we would definitely stay at Michele's again. :)
Very nice studio, with good living space; wonderful, fully equipped kitchen. Well maintained and decorated, with great service from the very welcoming owner. Perfectly located in downtown Aylmer, near pretty much everything.
I spent one week in October 2013 at Michele's apartment and it was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The location was quite convenient as the major shopping center in the area was within just a few minutes' walk. As the apartment is on the main street, public transit was readily available, and connections with other services meant I could get to downtown Ottawa within 30 to 45 minutes. (By car, such a trip would take about 15 - 20 minutes, I estimate.)
Michele's apartment itself was spacious, tastefully decorated, clean, and well-appointed. It was easy to feel right at home. (The headline calls it a studio, but it seemed more like a one-bedroom apartment as the bedroom can be completely closed off from the eat-in kitchen.) The Internet was fast and reliable, which was crucial as I was travelling on business.
My hostess was warm and attentive. What a pleasure it was to be welcomed to this part of Quebec by a published, prize-winning author, who shared some insights into the history of this attractive little town.
The apartment is upstairs from coffee house, which I understand is one of the most popular gathering places in Aylmer. (You don't hear any noise from downstairs, however.) It's quite pleasant to join the locals as they relax with their kids, friends and neighbours for an evening out.
After my experience, I'm happy to recommend this "Cosy Studio in a Heritage Home" to anyone travelling to the Ottawa/Gatineau area on business or for a vacation.
First and foremost, I was looking for a place to stay the day before my trip to Ottawa and Michele answered all my inquiry's much to use this apartment much faster than expected. I was expecting a response later in the day but got them very promptly.
On the day of the trip, Michele and I met up at this apartment, greeted my friend and I with a smile and gave us a tour of the apartment, recommended to us some local places to see and we had a talk about our lives. It was great.
The place itself is very well kept, very clean, tidy, furnished, and is simply gorgeous all together. She also has some books in the apartment which she wrote on a shelf if you can read French. Keep in mind that this place is meant for 2 people as the futon is a suitable size.
The surrounding area feels so relaxing and the cafe below the apartment has great staff, the food is good and is a great addition for when you need your morning java (my friend who drinks coffee everyday enjoyed it better than the Starbucks coffee she drinks on a daily basis).
The drive to Ottawa takes about 15 minutes by car and there is local transportation as well. There are also many grocery stores and department stores along the way so everything is very close by.
So all in all, I highly recommend staying here.
It is a great apartment BUT avoid if you have dustmite allergies. The futon mattress and/or bedding (that if replaced would create a perfect place to stay) released so many dust mite particles in the air that I could not use the bedroom/lounge. I have travelled extensively (often in very basic accommodation) and this only one of two places where I have encountered such a bad dustmite problem.
The apartment was bigger and even nicer than the pictures make it look. Very convenient location. Could not have been a better experience. Thanks again.
Michele was a friendly host who was very helpful and who gave us different tips for places to go eat and drink. The coffeebar downstairs is also a good place to get a cup of coffee. The app is very cosy, clean, newly renovated, shower is great (!) and the airco helped us keep cool. A big tip!
