The neighborhood

This is a lovely peaceful house and gardens within walking distance of the village. From here you can explore local Blue Flag golden sandy beaches such as Barley Cove, visit the islands (Cape Clear, Sherkin, Heir, Long Island etc), golf courses, woodlands & more.

This is a gateway to the Mizen Head Peninsula with its visitor centre and views towards the Fastnet Lighthouse.

Kayaking, sailing, surfing, angling, diving and sea safari available locally. Pony trekking in the area.

Live music sessions played most evenings in the many pubs in the village and surrounding towns.

There are local museums and a heritage centre in Skibbereen focusing on the Famine and history of the area.

There is an honesty stall at the end of our road where you can buy organic plants, vegetables and honey, leaving the cost in a little tin box.

Getting around

Ballydehob is a small vibrant village with a wide choice of cafés, bars and restaurants.

We are centrally located between Bantry, Skibbereen and Schull on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The village is a 90 minute drive from Cork City and there are direct bus links to the city. If you're arriving by bus we will collect you in the village.

The route to the village takes you past a charming little 2 classroom primary school and church. The road is lit up at night and there is a footpath most of the way making it a very safe and pleasant walk.

Other things to note

There are a number of festivals in the village, including the Trad Fest, Summer Festival and hugely popular Jazz Festival.

We are a ten minute drive from Schull with its fishing harbour and ferries to local islands.

In summer there is also a theatre tour which visits the local community hall weekly.

We had a lovely time in Ballydehob and staying with Lizzie made it even more enjoyable. She promised that it was a quiet location and boy was that accurate. Views of her beautiful, flower filled garden and stunning West Cork landscape from our room, really comfy bed, shower room right next door. Both mornings were spent in lively conversation over some superb coffee and homemade brown bread (the second morning we even got to share her fry-up but I don't know if that's standard - maybe we were special!!) If you are looking for a host who is friendly but laid back and somewhere that you can truly relax like you're in your own home than look no further.

Lovely house & amazing gardens & only a few min drive from the centre of ballydehob Room was a twin with a ensuite toilet & sink. Amazing clear night as we came back from village and amazing view of the night sky & stars. Way different than what we see in Dublin! Unfortunately we didn't have time to stay for breakfast, but Lizzie and her daughter were very friendly.

I would definitely recommend staying with Lizzie if you are in the area. She was able to host us on short notice this weekend as we stopped in West Cork on our way to Ring of Kerry. She welcomed us with tea, coffee, and chocolate biscuits then recommended an excellent local restaurant for dinner and gave us number to call for reservations. The rooms were exactly what we needed with comfortable beds. Lizzie had a stack of brochures on local attractions we used to plan our visits to Sunday market in Schull and Mizen Head.
