Live music sessions played most evenings in the many pubs in the village and surrounding towns.
There are local museums and a heritage centre in Skibbereen focusing on the Famine and history of the area.
There is an honesty stall at the end of our road where you can buy organic vegetables and honey, leaving the cost in a little tin box.
Ballydehob is a small vibrant village with a wide choice of cafés, bars and restaurants.
We are centrally located between Bantry, Skibbereen and Schull on the Wild Atlantic Way.
The village is a 90 minute drive from Cork City and there are direct bus links to the city. If you're arriving by bus we will collect you in the village.
The route to the village takes you past a charming little 2 classroom primary school and church. The road is lit up at night and there is a footpath most of the way making it a very safe and pleasant walk.
Other Things to Note
There are a number of festivals in the village, including the Trad Fest, Summer Festival and hugely popular Jazz Festival.
We are a ten minute drive from Schull with its fishing harbour and ferries to local islands.
In summer there is also a theatre tour which visits the local community hall weekly.
No smoking in the house please
The house was located a bit far from town but still in walk distance! The room was clean and we enjoied a good stay.
Nice sized room and not on top of other rooms so I didn't feel as if I had to tiptoe around, as is sometimes the case!
Room had its own half-bathroom which was also quite nice.
Was able to do some laundry, and Lizzie was very helpful with info about the area. Ended up staying an extra day!
Really close to Ballydehob town center, was nice since I was there for the jazz festival. On a hectare so has a nice feel to it.
The room size was nice, room had its own half-bathroom which really adds value IMO and not super close to other rooms so didn't feel as if I had to tiptoe as is often the case!
Also got to do some laundry while I was there. Lizzie was very helpful with info about the town and the festival; ended up staying an extra day!
"Our twin room on the ground floor was basic, but serviceable with ensuite toilet/washbasin. A more substantial bathroom with shower was just across the corridor. Lizzie kindly put an electric heater in our room in case we felt chilly later after the heating went off.
We would definitely advise bringing a torch. The 10 minute walk back into the village in the dark seemed longer because for the first half of the trip there is no street lighting of any kind and no pavement!
Breakfast was quite simple – good quality brown bread or scones with butter and jam and coffee or tea. Previous stays at B&B's in the area for the same price have always included a cooked breakfast which sets one up for the day. Overall, a pleasant but basic B&B experience. It served our purpose perfectly well for a one night stay."
A very nice, quiet stay (Thank you Lizzie, we never got to say goodbye!) A large, comfortable room and although remote, the location only really just a short stroll from the village. And every morning, a nice cup of tea and some fresh scones and brown bread. It's all we wanted, just the peace - and a proper, quiet comfortable base upon returning from our various adventures in the area!
Lizzie was very welcoming and offered a cuppa upon arrival. Due to a cancellation she kindly upgraded me to the double room at no additional charge. Large comfortable double room, upstairs with WC and shower seperate but right next to the room. Light breakfast of tea/coffee, bread/toast & marmalade, oatmeal. Use of kitchen should you want to make yourself a sandwich to take on your travels. Great location, just about an 8 min walk, along a country road (pathway most of the way but not entirely). I recommend bringing a flash light to light your way but more importantly to make yourself visible to oncoming vehicles.
