The Space

Private serene guestroom with balcony porch located in a beautiful c.1920 house in downtown Charlottesville, VA. Skip the noise of staying right on the Downtown Mall and retreat in our quite home, in a residential neighborhood, perfectly located just two blocks from the Mall.

Ideal for a couple or single traveler, we have a light and airy private room, simply furnished with a double bed, luxurious linens, dresser, ample closet space for hanging clothes, air conditioning unit, and a shabby chic cabinet filled with books and other reading materials you might find amusing during your stay. We include a french press, locally ground coffee, and an electric kettle in your room so you may enjoy those amenities without leaving your room. A mini fridge is also provided for your convenience. The room is located in the back of the house, providing privacy, comfort, and tranquility. It opens up onto a lovely, shaded balcony porch with a hammock and seating area, offering a calming place to duck away. Though the room is private, the adjacent bathroom is shared by the other guestroom, and it includes an antique claw foot tub, perfect for soaking and relaxation. Fresh towels are provided.

Our home is an eclectically elegant, classic house that was built in 1920 and still has hints of bygone era charm. The rooms are spacious, have high ceilings, and are filled with natural light. There are 4 bedrooms in total, 2 of which are rented as guestrooms. The common areas downstairs include the Parlour, and Dining Room. We also provide laundry facilities, including washer, dryer, iron and ironing board, for your convenience. There is no TV, but wireless internet is available. Abundant outdoor living space, including three porches and a backyard patio, ensure plenty of languid downtime for lounging around.

Centrally located in the heart of pretty North Downtown, Charlottesville, our home is within walking distance of many conveniences and attractions. It's a 2 minute (and 2 block) walk to the historic Downtown pedestrian mall where boutique shops, restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, music venues, and bars abound, a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) to the UVA campus, and a 15 minute drive to Monticello. We are just blocks from the vibrant Saturday morning Farmer's Market, a weekly stomping ground for the community, local farmers, and artisans to gather in celebration of the season's best locally made and sourced items. There is also plenty of public transport in the area, including a free trolley, which goes between the Downtown mall and the UVA area. Street parking is available in the area as well as two parking garages.

Our home is also an Ayurvedic Health centre where we provide health consultations, seminars, and workshops for guests to cleanse, reset, and renew their mind, body, and spirit. We endeavor to provide all of our guests with a calming sanctuary so that your stay is relaxed and inspiring.

We look forward to hosting you!

  • The house and room were perfect -- so close to the downtown Mall and all the comforts of home. I would highly recommend this as a great hotel alternative!

  • I stayed with Caroline and her family for a medical conference this summer. It was unseasonably hot during my stay, but the window AC in the room was a big help. The balcony and hammock is awesome, and the occasional piano practice downstairs was atmospheric.

  • I booked Caroline and Jack for my parents who were visiting Charlottesville and they had an absolutely great time! It was their first airbnb experience and a great way to start. The accommodation was great and they enjoyed chatting with Caroline, Jack and Caroline's mother who was also visiting form the UK - they even got to try Caroline's mother's famous margaritas! Mant thanks!

  • Caroline was an excellent host. The room was exactly as she described but even better in person because of the warmth and good energy put into the space. The room was very welcoming. We had our own water filter pitcher, a french press, locally roasted coffee, a variety of teas to choose from, and our own cozy porch to welcome the morning light. The location of the house couldn't be better. The neighborhood is beautiful and only two blocks from the downtown mall. We were able to walk to and from our evening outings which was very convenient, not to mention a perfect way to experience Charlottesville. Caroline and Jack are gracious and genuine hosts and I would recommend staying with them to anyone who wants an intimate experience of Charlottesville.

  • Our second overnight stay with Caroline & Jack. Accommodating hosts. Comfortable. Loved the side porch. Perfect to stroll to the mall and local music venues. On-street parking.

  • Came back to Cville for a wedding and I was surprised that my old college buddy Jack had started this BnB with Caroline! I had the best weekend partly due to how lovely their place was. I didn't realize this, but I got the whole upstairs balcony with hammock to myself. Also, everything was super easy and, of course, friendly. Plus they had nice homey touches like a french press, books, some organic soaps and things in the room.

  • I rate this B and B 5 and a half stars! One of the best experiences we've had so far through airbnb. Our hosts couldn't have been more hospitable, great old house just a block off the downtown mall in Charlottesville. Yet surprisingly quiet in a tree shaded neighborhood. There is a nice park just across the street. We were there for a concert and this house is super convenient to several great music venues on the mall. I hope we'll have occasion to stay with Caroline and Jack again!!!

  • This was my second time staying with Caroline and Jack, and like the first, it was a wonderful experience in every way. They are warm and thoughtful hosts and quite adept at making one feel welcome without ever intruding. The house is beautiful and enchanting, with great books and vinyls and art all over, and its location could not be better. Staying with Caroline and Jack was once again among the highlights of my trip to Charlottesville.

  • Caroline and Jack were warm and inviting upon our arrival. They had tons of great advice on places to go. It was convenient to have the downtown mall so close just a few blocks away. The room was very comfortable with an amazing private balcony and cozy hammock. I appreciated the amenities such as a mini fridge and brita filter.

    Response from Caroline:

Hi Rob, thanks so much for this feedback. Sorry we somehow neglected to give you the full house tour! We have found that most of our guests don't care to get the full tour as they are more concerned with staying in their room. We will make sure not to overlook that!

  • Caroline and Jack were such warm and gracious hosts. The house is truly lovely and the location can't be beat. I'll definitely be back- can't recommend it enough!

About
We are a young couple building a meaningful life together in lovely Charlottesville! I am an Ayurvedic Practitioner ("Ayurveda"-the world's oldest living system of medicine and healing from India) focusing on nurturing "wholeness," health, and balance through holistic nutrition and lifestyle therapies. Our house provides a centre for healing and rejuvenation where I offer Nutrition & Lifestyle consults, seminars and workshops, and week-long wellness immersion retreats. As a passionate cook, I can usually be found in the kitchen creating vibrant vegetarian dishes and healing tinctures. My fiancee, Jack, is an entrepreneur. He loves good books, music, culture, and is incredibly knowledgeable about, and impassioned by, film. He also has an uncanny ability to uncover interesting history about forgotten places and roads. We are so poised that our home allows us to bring our passions for health, beauty, and culture together in an environment which supports that. As hosts, we are happy to allow as much or as little privacy during your stay as you like, and we are always on hand to field any questions. As we have both traveled and lived in different places, we have a grasp of what makes a visit and stay comfortable. I am originally from Charlottesville, and Jack has lived here on and off for many years. Together, we can provide a great breadth of recommendations and resources for your visit!
