The Space

Ideal for a couple or single traveler, this is an ensconcing private room, simply furnished with a FULL-sized bed, 100% cotton linens, dresser, ample closet space for hanging clothes, air conditioner, and a shabby-chic cabinet filled with books and other reading materials. We include a french press, coffee, and an electric kettle in your room so you may enjoy those amenities without leaving your room. A mini fridge is also provided for your convenience. The room is located in the back of the house providing privacy, comfort, and tranquility. It opens up onto a lovely, shaded balcony porch with a hammock and seating area, offering a calming place to duck away. Though the room is private, the adjacent bathroom is shared by the other guestroom (when both rooms are occupied) and it includes a shower and antique claw foot tub, perfect for soaking and relaxation. Fresh towels are provided.

Guest Access

Our home is an eclectically elegant, classic house that was built in 1920 and still has hints of bygone era charm. The rooms are spacious, have high ceilings, and are filled with natural light. There are 4 bedrooms in total, 2 of which are rented as guestrooms. The common areas downstairs include the Parlour, and Dining Room. We also provide laundry facilities, including washer, dryer, iron and ironing board, for your convenience. There is no TV, but wireless internet is available. Abundant outdoor living space, including three porches and a backyard patio, ensure plenty of languid downtime for lounging around.

Interaction with Guests

This is our private residence and we live on premise. We are happy to be on hand to answer as many questions and provide as much guidance as we can, but we also respect the privacy needs of our guests.

The Neighborhood

Centrally located in the heart of pretty North Downtown, Charlottesville, our home is within walking distance of many conveniences and attractions. It's a 2 minute (and 2 block) walk to the historic Downtown pedestrian mall where boutique shops, restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, music venues, and bars abound, a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) to the UVA campus, and a 15 minute drive to Monticello. We are just blocks from the vibrant Saturday morning Farmer's Market, a weekly stomping ground for the community, local farmers, and artisans to gather in celebration of the season's best locally made and sourced items. Nearby parks include Lee Park (1 block away), and R E Lee Monument.

Getting Around

Street parking is available in our downtown area as well as two parking garages. Being in the heart of downtown comes with a few parking regulations to be aware of. There is regulated 2 hour parking Monday-Saturday from 10-6pm on most of the streets in our neighborhood. Please be mindful of these rules as you make your arrival itinerary. The street directly in front of our house has unlimited parking rules so we encourage our guests who will be staying for extended stays to utilise that parking amenity.

There is plenty of public transport in the area, including a free trolley, which goes between the Downtown mall and the UVA area. We are a 5 minute walk to the Downtown Transit Station, which connects a host of bus routes across Charlottesville.

Other Things to Note

CHECK-IN: Check-in is between 3pm-9pm. Please enquire about making alternate arrangements if you will be requesting an arrival time outside of that window.

We really believe in supporting sustainability efforts to enhance the well-being of our home environment, and the greater well-being of our planet. Here are a few ways we keep our carbon footprint low:

-Most of the furnishings and decor in our home are vintage, thrifted, handed down, or re-purposed.
-All of our linens are 100% cotton, no synthetic fibers/materials
-We use only natural, non-toxic, hypoallergenic and biodegradable laundry detergent
-The toiletry essentials (hand soap, hand cream) provided in the guest bath are natural, non-toxic, chemical-free, plant-derived, and biodegradable
-We welcome the fresh Virginia air during warmer days by allowing the windows to be open, but we provide energy efficient air conditioning units for days that feel ultra balmy
-All of our lamps are outfitted with energy efficient bulbs.
-Water is provided in the guest rooms in glass bottles, rather than plastic
-We provide filtered, alkaline water to help support a healthy pH level
-Being located so close to the heart of downtown Charlottesville makes us a "walker's paradise," with a walk score of 98. Most daily errands and activities can be achieved without a car
