Mel is great. She will tell you all the good places to go. It's a nice little place and we were very comfortable there.

Mel's place was just the sort of spot we were looking for: a little rough around the edges, but overall a great value in a great spot. We stayed in the Cando, which is a part of the hostel complex (about 5 buildings total). It was great having our own space with a full bathroom and functional kitchen. The power went out in our neighborhood a few times while we were there, so be sure to bring a book and be aware that you may have some "unplugged" time, (we didn't mind at all, but just something to be aware of). Mel was very helpful with advice, and we enjoyed being able to walk to great snorkeling and easily catch public transportation to get to other parts of the island. Thanks for a great stay!

This was my third time to stay at one of Mel's properties. All three have been great! The cando is spacious with a large kitchen area and a wonderful bathroom/shower. The swimming pool is absolutely spectacular!!!! I would highly recommend this property. It's located in Sandy Bay, just a quick 5 minute ride from West End. There's a small tienda less than 100 meters away that has fresh food (and rum!) which you can take back to the cando and cook if you want. It's just a two minute ride (or fifteen minute walk if you prefer) from a dive shop that's located at a small resort which has an excellent restaurant.

It was great. Mel was very accommodating. Definitely the basics you need and a step above a shared hostel. The place was clean, and we slept well in the comfortable bed.

Wonderful. This was perfect place to stay. Simple, no frills, yet everything one would need to have a relaxed and enjoyable stay, great pool with beautiful garden surrounding, with plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy. Mel is a fabulous host, available when needed and respectful of your privacy. She shares great info, and some laughs. Knows how to advise for those on a budget or not. A very good balance, a real taste of local life along with still getting a vacation feel, definetly has a home away from home quality. It is a great location, to access all of the island from. Traveling as a single women, this was indeed perfect, I felt safe and after a days adventure it felt great to come back, to see and share with my Hostel family !

I am a single mom of 2, living on site at our small, friendly hostel in a residential area in Sandy Bay on the island of Roatan. I traveled around for several years as a scuba instructor before making my home in Roatan. We're just a few minutes walk to the dolphins at Anthony's Key, as well as the botanical gardens. We love to travel, so if we've gone on a trip while you're coming to stay with us, we'll make sure to leave you in good hands.
