Welcome to our tiny house/guest cottage tucked away in the garden of a converted historical Church which now serves as an event space. This event space will not be in use while during your stay to ensure that you have a quiet and peaceful stay.
The 160 square foot guest cottage has a sleeping loft (queen bed), 12.5 foot ceilings, plenty of natural lighting, wood floors, comfy furniture, wifi, and finally our beloved composting toilet. Have no worries...as this composting toilet doesn't smell and it is very simple and sanitary to use. There is also a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, toaster oven, tea pot, coffee pot and water dispenser. Please understand that there is no running water in the space, however, you will have full plumbing amenities in the main house which is a
a renovated 1916 Church. This space hosts workshops, weddings, parties, etc. In the main house you will have access to your own bathroom and a clean and spacious shower room. We also have a full kitchen you may use for light cooking, although you may find it unnecessary as you are mere blocks from amazing and affordable restaurants.
Now what our tiny cottage home lacks in bathroom luxury, it makes up for in it's amazing location. You will be one block from the wonderful Alberta Arts street. We are down the block from the delicious Townsends Tea Shop (if you love exotic teas, this is the place!), and a few blocks from Salt n Straw ice cream shop (have you ever thought they would come up with a bacon and fig ice-cream flavor???), and dozens of other amazing restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, and bars. Please take a moment and look up Alberta Arts district and you will find a slew of information on this area.
New Seasons (our version of Whole Foods), The Kennedy School Movie Theatre ($3.00 movies and Beer!) , and soaking tubs (Common Grounds) are a short walk away.
Staying at our space will provide you with a unique and peaceful alternative to a hotel room, as well, will give you an idea of what it may be like to stay in a "tiny house" dwelling.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns!
The stay was wonderful. The cabin was beautiful and comfortable, nestled in a peaceful private back yard. Yet it was still close to so much to do on Alberta. Couldn't be happier.
We had the most amazing stay in this cottage. The property is beautiful, clean & comfortable. The hosts are friendly & accommodating. The neighborhood is awesome with great food, coffee & bars in walking distance. We would definitely stay again during future trips to Portland.
Wow! Jeanette and her place are amazing! We ended up switching to another property of hers' (the studio near this location) and had such a wonderful time. Jeanette is thoughtful, generous, and accommodating. When she figured out we were hoofing it, she printed out bus schedules for us and gave us great advice on what to try out while we were there. The animals around her house were adorable and just the right amount if friendly- not noisy at all. Had great teas and coffee available in the studio. She gave us loaner bikes and helmets to use around town which was a really nice and made it easy to get around. Shower was so relaxing. Great water pressure, and as far as we tested, endless hot water. Slept well in the bed. Couldn't imagine staying at a hotel again after staying here! The area was centrally located, but not as crowded as other parts of the city which was really nice and relaxing. Neighborhood felt safe. In walking distance there are markets, food coffee, shopping, art, and lots of portland beauty. Would defiantly recommend!
It was like living in a secluded place in the woods. What a great place with quirky little features. What a sweet place!
Jeannette was a great host. She met my wife and I late at night (thanks for staying up!) and kindly showed us around making us feel right at home. The area is quite and very nice. I give the experience 4 stars as it met my expectations and was a good place to stay.
We loved this cozy place! The garden that is your private courtyard is wonderful. The neighborhood is walking heaven. Cute abounds in coffee & tea shops, antique stores, restaurants...blocks away. Jeanette is perfect: she's there but not. Anything you need she's on it, but we actually didnt see her, but our keys, towels, directions...were waiting for us. The compounding toilet is totally fine. AND you have access to a very nice bathroom suite (private 2 full baths and spa like cedar shower) just across pretty courtyard. We slept really well!
We had an excellent stay here! The cottage is located smack-dab in the middle of Alberta Arts District so it was a perfect place to explore the city. The cottage itself is roomy and private and is located in the garden of a converted church that is used as an event space. Save for one night, we had the whole place to ourselves! There is a lovely garden and a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine if the weather is nice. Don't be afraid of the composting toilet (it's really not that scary) and the bathroom facilities in the main building are really nice and easy to access. For the price, this place was an amazing value and Jeanette went out of her way to make us feel at home. Highly recommended and hope to return soon!
Jeanette's cabin is a hidden gem in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, a neighbourhood that is a favourite destination for me. A bright and airy loft space a block away from great restaurants and shops, walking distance to the Kennedy School, and a convenient bus ride from downtown - I was happy to call this space "home" for 3 nights.
Jeannette was a wonderful, warm and accommodating host. The cottage was a very special, private space, even more than usual I imagine since the event space in the next building over was not in use for the four days I was there. The only inconvenience of the cottage is that there is no sink where you sleep, and the shower is in the next building over. There is a fridge, coffee pot, and electric kettle available for use though. No problems with the composting toilet!
Jeannette and her husband were working on fixing the shower when I arrived, and gave me a partial refund for my first night before the problem got resolved. I felt I could ask for anything at any time, and Jeannette was always available and in good communication by phone and text with me.
I would love to stay in this place again, which has beautiful green surroundings, fruit trees, an outdoor sitting area and a very cozy, romantic feel.
My daughter and I just returned from a wonderful week at the Alberta Arts Cottage. It was very clean, comfortable, cozy, in walking distance to great dining experiences, shops, and the Trimet. The owners are lovely people, very helpful with directions, things to do, etc. etc. Cottage was better than the description! The composting toilet was not an issue, and really is overshadowed by the close proximity to the one of the many great neighborhoods of Portland. Downsides of this space? You will wish you could stay longer!
