Interaction with Guests
We like to meet guests when they arrive just to say hi, show them around and see if they have any questions about where to eat or what to do in the area. We often check in with our guests in passing to make sure everything is going well, answer any questions or see if they would like any other suggestions for accessing whatever it is that they would like to see or do. We presume our guests are here to relax and enjoy themselves. We like to enhance that experience as much as possible!
We live in a very rural area (you are likely to see deer & other wild life on your way to town) but, we are just 5 minutes from the town of Fort Bragg, 10 minutes from the famous Glass Beach and headlands of MacKerricher State Park and 20 minutes from the village of Mendocino as well as several other state parks.
Bicycle, walking or car are the best ways to get around the neighborhood or into town, to the beach etc.
Other Things to Note
Some of the birds that have visited our yard:
Violet Green Swallow (nest in our bird houses), Cliff Swallows (nest under our eaves), Hummingbirds (several types), Goldfinches, Ravens, Redtail Hawks, House Finches, Robins, Varied Thrushes, Blue Jays, Stellar Jays, Mourning Doves, Pigeons, White Crowned Sparrows (a colony lives in yard), Fox Sparrows, Flickers, California Quail, to name a few.
1) There is a double futon couch in the room. It will accommodate one adult. There is an additional $30 charge for a person per night. A double mattress cover, sheets, blankets and pillows for the futon are located in the cabinet behind the entrance door.
2) Dishes are provided for simple meals, however we ask that any dishes with food residue NOT be rinses in the bathroom sink or tub. We provide a stainless steel basin (inside the cabinet behind the entry door) which can be left outside the door and we will wash the dishes and return them. Bathroom drains have stoppers which when combined with food residue leads to plumbing problems. Rinsing coffee and tea cups is not a problem. Thanks!
3) Please hang wet towels on the towel rack over the toilet, on the towel rack next to the shower or over the shower curtain pole only. Thanks!
4) Please be gentle letting the blinds down. Blinds are delicate creatures if they are dropped hard.
5) When closing the blind on the door for privacy, remember to clip it into the hold down bracket. this ensures that it does not fly around when the door is opened and shut. Thank you!
6) The bank of cabinets on the North wall are locked and are for the hosts use only.
7 Please let us know if anything is not functioning or if you are having difficulty operating anything. We will be happy to help. This will also lets us know if something needs improvement or repair. Enjoy you stay!
Such a beautiful space! My father and I stayed for a couple of days and he was just blown away by the detail work done in the studio. The many windows let lots of natural light in and the coffee was DELICIOUS! We loved the two dogs as well, they were very sweet and friendly. The place is the perfect distance from town to be quiet yet close enough to pop in to Mendocino or Fort Bragg for food or shopping or beach visits. We very much enjoyed our stay and thanks again!
It was the best two days that I have spent in the U.S. (been here for over a year not). The studio was gorgeous, tastefully done up and was spotlessly clean. The walls were lined with Bill's photographs (mostly black and white), and as you can see in the pictures, there was a display of old cameras. The bed was just phenomenally comfortable :D The bathroom was fully stocked with everything that we needed. Moreover, there were fresh flowers everywhere in the studio when we arrived. Oh and Anne and Bill's dogs Tilly and Zazi are beautiful! We had a great time playing with them!
Anne was extremely accommodating when we told her that we could reach only after 10 p.m. Joe, Anne's father-in-law welcomed us warmly. In the morning, we woke up to a view of pine trees and fruit trees in the front yard! There was a table with fresh flowers and two chairs on the patio, which was perfect for sipping coffee while taking in the view. In short, we were very sad to leave the photographer's studio.
Will definitely go back!
That is a huge compliment, that it is the best place you have stayed in the U.S. Having lived abroad, I know how much that means. I really love meeting my international guests and trying to make them feel comfortable and seeing them and enjoying themselves.
Hope you can escape the city again soon!
Anne made us feel very welcome, and even communicated with us before our arrival to let us know we could check in a little earlier if we wanted to. She was very nice and gave us more than enough information about the area. The property is just amazing and the photographer's studio was just what we needed for a quick getaway. We had all of the essentials, including delicious fresh coffee we brewed both morning we were there. We can't wait to go back!
Anne was such a perfect hostess that we want to come back to the photographer's studio for our next trip to Fort Bragg/Mendocino area. Artistic background in the studio and two friendly dogs were a bonus.
I loved my 4 night stay. The studio is really comfortable & peaceful Anne & Bill made me feel very welcome and are there you need any advice on where to go. They gave me delicious fresh plums from their trees. The area is amazing and I hiked in the nearby forests and walked along the coast. I also visited Ave of the Giants which is a couple of hours drive away. Mendocino is lovely with all you need. I would definitely stay again if back in the area. Travelling alone and an animal lover I enjoyed the occasional company of Anne & Bill's pet dogs too!
I had a terrific time staying at Anne & Bill's photography studio in Fort Bragg. Before my trip, they provided me with suggestions for the most scenic route to Fort Bragg. Anne met me upon my arrival, and gave me terrific suggestions on where to grab breakfast, and where in the city to go to explore. I truly appreciated the suggestions as it gave me the confidence as I explored the city to know where the locals go. With her advice, I began my weekend with a gorgeous run along the headlands at Glass Beach - which really set the tone for the rest of the weekend.
The studio was charming, and nestled in the backyard among hydrangeas and fruit trees it made for a very relaxing atmosphere. And it was just a short drive from downtown! Thanks Anne & Bill for a terrific weekend getaway!
Anne was very kind and welcoming. She provided us with plenty of magazines and fliers about the Fort Bragg/Mendocino area. The room was very clean and well furnished. This was a great place to stay for a couple days to relax before heading back to school and work.
About the Host, Anne & Bill
Bill & Anne are native Northern Californians. Bill has lived in Ireland and Anne has lived in Spain, Italy & Mexico, as well. Bill spent the last 20 years working as a fine art photographer and traveling as much as possible. Anne had a wholesale jewelry company with her sister and traveled to Mexico frequently, where her jewelry was handmade, as well as throughout the United States to exhibit at trade shows. Now we like to stay close to home, Anne particularly likes to be out working in our large garden. We still appreciate the spirit of travel and intend to stay connected to that through Airbnb. We have one daughter who will begin attending college in Western Massachusetts in August…it looks like we are going to be exploring being airbnb guests on the East Coast soon. We live with two lovable Australian Shepherds.
