The Space

This stunning two bedroom, 2.5 baths resort villa with approximately 1,500 square feet of living space, is terraced on the hillside making the perfect home base for all of your adventures. Walk to the beach, hike the jungle or sit and enjoy the stunning view of Costa Rica. A full property management program cares for all the details. The sights and sounds at Canto Del Mar (Song of the Sea) will leave you awestruck. Canto Del Mar is comprised of terraced villas set on the lush hillside, against a backdrop of mountains in every shade of green. Alluring sights and sounds of the ocean are visible from almost any room. The Dominical area, on the Pacific Coast, has always been a favorite destination for both surfers and those visitors seeking an authentic Costa Rican experience. More and more tourists continue to venture this way and constant improvements in infrastructure bring more visitors with each passing year.

For an additional fee, we can arrange a driver/tour guide to pick you up at the airport, and get you safely to the villa visiting some attractions along the way, and also remain available for a few days, or your entire stay as concierge tour guide.

General Location-Surfing Info: Where the Talamancan mountains reach the sea, the town of Dominical is located 45 kms. south of Quepos, and 36 kms. west of San Isidro de General. There are over 15 waterfalls located between Dominical and Uvita (15kms. south) with breathtaking views of the numerous empty point and beach breaks along the coastal highway. The main break is a beachbreak with a strong rip current at times and a rivermouth separating the village from the Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge which expands 4 kilometers to the north.

How to get there: How to get there-

There are two direct routes. From the San Jose airport - I recommend driving west to the coast and then south through Jaco and Quepos. This route takes only three hours by car because of the new highway connecting San Jose to Caldera. Also, the road from Quepos to Dominical is now paved and so the last leg takes only 35 minutes. Drive slow to watch out for monkey and pizote crossings.

The other way to go is better if you are coming from the east or south side of San Jose. Then you would take the three hour 'Cerro del Muerte' or Interamerican Highway route over to San Isidro, make a right at the McDonalds, and then follow the signs west to Dominical, which is another hour from the turn. It is a very scenic drive so try to do it in the morning when there is less cloud cover. From the top of Tinamaste you can see the highest peak in Costa Rica - Mount Chirripo - plus the Pacific coastline. Once you arrive in Dominical, Take a left and drive to the Dominicalito.

World Class Sportfishing: The way of the migration of Sail Fish gives us the access to the best fish banks throughout the year for the Southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica. That is the reason why the legend ports of Quepos and Golfito, located in this area, have access to famous areas such as Furuno Bank or Caño Island which is within an hour from the Bay of Dominicalito.

Special fishing packages available with tours included.

  • We stayed at Vista Encantada. We arrived late and Kelley was there to take us to the property. Kelley was very friendly and helpful. The house was beautiful, clean and had amazing views! The beds were very comfortable and a private bath in every room. It was great to have a washer and dryer to wash out clothes after traveling for a week. The house is located up a rocky, dirt road so a 4x4 is a must!!! Location is close to many activities and beaches.Kelley was very accommodating and helpful! We would definitely stay there again.

  • There were 7 adults in the party. The description of the main villa was incorrect, as it is a 3 bed villa with the fourth and fifth bedrooms being in a guesthouse.
The villa had beautiful views over the coast and rainforest and an infinity pool. The pool area was large, but did not have adequate sun-loungers, as one of the 3 had perished in the sun, leaving us with 2 for the 7 of us for whole of the holiday. The outside seating area was lovely and had a couple of BBQ’s during our stay. The sunroof had no facilities on it to watch the sunset.
Inside there were TWO en-suite bedrooms, the third having a separate shower room only. This bedroom did not have any wardrobe area for garment hanging. None of the rooms had curtains and there was no obscured glass in the bath/toilet areas, although we are all friends, there are certain things that we don’t want to see of each other!
The living area was large & spacious, the kitchen area had a great large fridge freezer, with ice making facilities and a separate large wine cooler. The dishwasher was not secured and inadequate supply of dishwasher tablets, and some of the basic kitchen facilities were missing too. We were not supplied with toilet tissue as per the website.
There was a great washing machine, and tumble dryer, but did not have the advertised airer. There was also no iron or hair dryers, until requested. there was no ironing board either. The safe did not function and the fly screens on some door were broken and not fixed until 3 days before we left.

Access to the guesthouse was down a steep driveway or steps, which did not have a handrail for support, This would not suit people with joint problems and seemed unsafe. The lighting down the driveway was not functioning adequately and was repaired after requesting. The downstairs room had an open plan living/bed area, with TV, toilet and washing machine, and smelt badly of mildew. The upstairs area had a large comfy bed, but no wardrobe and had to drape garments over the sofa bed. The small kitchen had a large cooker (not used) and fridge freezer. This had NO kettle and only 1 adult size and 1 child size mugs, so had to use the microwave for the morning coffee. The aircon unit was not working properly and was repaired once requested. There was no bath, but a quirky wall tiled shower, which was a bit fierce on sunkissed skin. This room also smelt BADLY of mildew/must It was not possible to keep doors open whilst occupied, as there was not fly/mesh barrier to stop bugs entering the room. A dehumidifier was provided after request, which lessened this odour by the end of the holiday, but did not resolve the issue.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Vista Encantada! The pictures can't show how impressive the view from this house is! This villa located at 250 meters above the sea levels is surround by nature and jungle! There is nearly no visible neighbors, making the place really private, and we loved it! A few minutes away, there is a big waterfall where you can swim! In the area, we saw lots of life : animal, bird, insect. It was just incredible!

The house has 3 big bedrooms all with king beds and private bathrooms. There is also an additional sofa if you need it. The kitchen is well equipped, the living room is huge and Internet/TV were working very well. A water filter was making the water drinkable for us, which was really convenient.

Only a small note to let you know that the road to reach the house climbs a lot, and it is made out of dirt. I feel that a 4x4 car is pretty necessary to get there without too much pain.

  • Beautiful property in a lovely quiet location. A perfect place to start our honeymoon. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer!!

  • The home was beautiful with amazing views. We arrived at night and spent 30 minutes trying to find the guesthouse . I assumed it was next to the main house . It is 150 steps down a ravine so very secluded, something to keep in mind if you want to be close together. The pool was wonderful . It takes about 15 minutes to reach Dominical . We enjoyed being able to drive to the small towns and 30 minutes to Manuel Antonio then returning to peace and quiet at the Casa. A true paradise . We had toucans visit very early in the morning everyday but did not see or hear monkeys . There was no house phone during our visit . We could not make any local calls so it was hard to confirm tours or call Kelley. We communicated with her via internet .

Casa Tanglewood was peaceful , beautiful , clean, modern and we would definitely stay there again .
