Interaction with Guests
We love getting to know our guests -- it's the real fun of Airbnb -- but if you prefer to have a romantic breakfast with just your partner or are not a morning person and don't want to talk over coffee, that's okay too.
Randy and I are happy to give recommendations for restaurants, things to see, places to ski, etc.
Vermont village setting.
There is no taxi service in the area, but we are happy to pick you up at the Dartmouth Coach bus stop at the Hanover Inn, providing the timing works. Can also give you a ride to Dartmouth or DHMC if you are stuck.
There is a good door-to-door car service that can take you to and from the Manchester, NH, Boston, Hartford, CT and Burlington, VT airports. Please contact us for details.
Other Things to Note
The room is above the kitchen, up it's own staircase and tucked out of sight and hearing of the rest of the house. It is absolutely private, but there is no actual door. At night we will be on the other side of the house where we can't hear you and you can't hear us. (Earplugs available for late- or light-sleepers.)
As described, there is no stand-up shower in the private bathroom. This is due to the configuration of the knee wall/roof: there is no room for a full shower. The tub is a small, antique clawfoot with a nice hand-held shower. Nearly all of our guests find this a fun detail.
The house was built in 1850 when spaces were just smaller. This adds to the coziness we love. Ceilings are low in the guest room, so if you are tall, you may have to duck a bit.
No smoking. No recreational drugs. Limited kitchen privileges (you can store things in the fridge, make tea, etc. but no cooking).
No pets unless otherwise arranged.
Our day begins at 5:30 AM - you can sleep as long as you like, but you will hear us downstairs (guest room is just above the kitchen). We go to bed early (9:00 PM ish). We'll leave the lights on for you.
We often work at home and need uninterrupted space, so hanging out during the day is not an option.
Bring your own laptop or there are computers available at the public library just down the road. Household wifi password available upon arrival. Cell service in the house can be spotty depending on your carrier. Land line available for limited use as needed.
Please be tidy. No meals in the bedroom. General decorum expected.
This was our first experience with Airbnb. We decided to try it on the spur of the moment at 6:30 in the morning of the day we needed to check in. Jane was very patient communicating with through Airbnb messages before we booked with her as we tried to register and verify identity with airbnb.
The cozy room is very small with slanted ceilings. The room is bright and cheerful with a wall of windows overlooking a beautiful garden. It is well lit and comfortable for it's size. The bathroom has a beautiful old tub which is too small for me to use. The old fashioned iron spring bed is very soft. I prefer hard, but my wife loved it. There is a water fountain in the garden near the window that runs all night.
Breakfast was simple healthy and very fresh. A great way to start the day.
Rudder the golden lab is a very nice dog!
Thank you Jane and Randy for sharing your cozy, comfortable home with us. Perfect location for us to get the most out of attending our son's graduation.
The beautiful vase of peonies was a nice touch!
Jane and her dog Rudder welcomed me to her home. It's a lovely place. The description is accurate but much better in person. The room is in the loft above the kitchen. There is an adjoining bathroom with a sit-down shower. There are books everywhere and the other decorations (wicker chair, glass perfume set and rustic trunk and armoir...) were just right. The garden is serene with colorful adirondack chairs scattered about. The house is just outside the "main drag" of town, so you get to see a small stereotypical VT town as you make your way to the location. I visited Quechee/Woodstock the first day I was there and Dartmouth College the second day. Jane gave me some pointers on where to go in Quechee/Woodstock. Jane served me parfait breakfast (my favorite) both days. She even bought Cheerios when she found out I couldn't have the granola that had milk products in it. I will definitely book again the next time I'm in the area.
Jane, Randy and Rudder are great hosts! Accommodating and fun to talk with. I love dogs, and Rudder is a very sweet lab. He didn't come up to the room. The room was very comfortable, there were trees outside a wall of windows by the bed which felt like a treehouse. Lots of great books. I was able to walk to town (10 min) to dinner at a yummy local restaurant. If you are needing a place to stay in the area, this is very nice!
The house is lovely. The room is beautiful and clean. It is beautifully decorated. The hosts are friendly. The only problem we had was the lack of a real shower. The description they provide says "Bath has small, antique 4 ft. claw-foot tub with hand-held shower. (Please note: no regular shower.)" What this means is you need to sit in a very small tub, there is no room to stand. There is no curtain around it. Even if you are extremely careful water gets everywhere. My husband is 6 ft. so he really couldn't use the tub. It was really a shame because everything else about the experience couldn't have been nicer.
Staying at Jane's beautiful renovated farmhouse was such a pleasure. Every detail was perfect, down to the freshly pressed sheets and snacks that were awaiting us upon our arrival. Jane, Randy, and Rudder were very welcoming and Jane had many great restaurant recommendations for us in the area. She provided us with delicious breakfast in the morning which was the perfect way to end a lovely stay. We look forward to returning to Jane's farmhouse whenever we are in the area!
