We found bedbugs and fleas and we had to clean ourselves everything the last day of our stay before going back home in Spain. We were three girls looking for a place to stay during two weeks of tourism and wanted it to be a little cheaper. The photos looked decent so we chose this room. During the process of booking, James was nice and let us booking though we had some difficulties and he was understanding. When we got to the house, it looked pretty normal. The room was same as the photos but when we went to sleep we found stains in the sheets and they didn't really smell clean. Whatever, we were just thinking that it could be just us. Then, the ad says MINUTES to Manhattan, YEAH IF YOU HAVE A CAR or just going to World Trade, if you want to go to Central Park or Times Square or East Village is at least an hour or more. Don't ever mention to Brooklyn. We found out later that James was not living with us (not that it matters but it would have been nice to told us). Then we started to being bitten by something but we thought it was maybe allergy from the dust. But that something turn out to be BEDBUGS AND FLEAS. We met the other guest in the house some days before we had to check out and found out that he had been bitten too way before we got into the house and he mentioned it to the host but the host looked himself and just washed the sheets and his clothes and didn't call the exterminators to check it out. Well, we told James (the host) that we were bitten and he didn't even talk with us to set up a time to let the exterminators to come by and had to woke up early Saturday morning knowing we had gone out Friday night cause Sunday we were leaving for good. At the end, it was confirmed that the house had bedbugs and fleas and instead of offering a cleaning service for all our clothes (5 luggage of clothes cause we 3 girls) and the luggage, we went to the laundromat and had to do it ourselves. At least he returned all the money for the whole stay and spend the day with us and payed the last night in a hotel even though he tried at first to make us find a place and expect us to pay ourselves. We wasted our last day in NY just like this. I would not recommend a place and an experience like this to anybody.

Whether you're looking to stay an extended period of time or just for the night id highly recommend staying with james. The light rail is just a short walk away and james has a response time like no other landlord I've ever had! I would highly recommend him no matter how long you plan on staying!

James is super flexible and willing to work with you. He offers rides if the timing works out and he left us a bottle of wine. I couldn't ask for much more!

James was a great host! The communication before and during our stay was amazing. Upon arrival, James was here to welcome us, and even left a bottle of wine for us to enjoy! He recommended us a lot of great places to eat and to visit, he was always available when we had a question. The beds were comfy, and the neighborhood very quiet at night. A great place to stay if you plan to visit NYC! Thanks for everything James! :)

I stayed 1 night with 3 other girls and it was perfect for us. We booked last minute and James was a fantastic host, it was super easy to contact him by text and he even gave us a ride to the city that night ! The neibourghood is a bit rough but it isnt unsafe. The room is clean, nothing too fancy, and was definitely fine for 1 night. We were travelling by car and it was about 20-30 minutes to the city. I would definitely suggest James place if you will travel by car. Thanks again for everything James :) !

James is an excellent host. He gave us a lot of good tips and it was a pleasure to talk to him. The room was like described and it is a short way to Manhattan. It was a pity, that we hadn't more time to talk to each other.

Truly minutes to either Downtown or Midtown Manhattan, day or night. Also, very close to Newark and EWR. I was travelling entirely by public transport and had no difficulty. There is a Light Rail station about five minutes' walk away with service to Jersey City and Hoboken for ferry, New Jersey Transit trains, or PATH connections. Returning after 2:00 a.m. one evening, I took a cab ($8) from an ample queue waiting directly outside Journal Square PATH station where there was also an all-night pharmacy and general store. The 'Jersey' geography is not a problem. A very friendly welcome to a clean, comfortable, house in a quiet street. The room is very large and has a comfortable bed, adjustable window blinds and ceiling fan. In New Jersey to visit family in the Pascack Valley, I found most basic hotels were located convenient to expressways, but remote from public transport. Therefore, it was only after I was aboard The Adirondack coming down from Montreal that I decided to look up AirBnB in order to find lodging for that very night somewhere where humans lived. Noticing that my mobile phone reception was getting spotty, I rushed to request a booking at James's house and then lost contact for several hours until we got into the Hudson Valley. Unflappable, James had handled everything in his stride, arranging for his housemates to let me in. By the time the train pulled into Penn Station, I had detailed directions and we knew almost exactly when I'd arrive. In short, I would unhesitatingly recommend James's room as a clean, quiet, friendly place to stay. It is particularly suited for anyone relying on public transport whose visit takes them to Manhattan or northeastern New Jersey or who is flying in or out of EWR.

I'm from Alaska but am based in NYC. I get very excited about places with great food and enjoyable people. NYC has both, but so do many places across the US and around the world, so I love to travel!
