Interaction with Guests
You most likely won't see me, but I will be available by phone, text, and/or email.
I have always lived in the country, and this little spot caught my eye due to the seclusion, but at the same time close to the town, or large cities were a short drive.
You will have to drive everywhere, but walks on Middle Creek aren't bad.
Other Things to Note
Please read all of the details of the house guide. I have tried to anticipate all questions, but I am still learning.

I built the house myself with the help of subcontractors and day laborers. If you get it out, put it back, if you dirty it clean it. The kitchen is yours to use, please feel free to use my recipe books and spices. Put all dirty linens and towels in the washer on the main level and start it before your departure, if your time permits put them in the dryer. Same with dishes, wash them by hand or place in dishwasher and start it. A charcoal grill is available bring charcoal and lighter fluid. A bird feeder is on the bedroom deck, please feel free to put out bird seed. I love sitting in bed watching the cardinals, Carolina chick-a-dees, nuthatch, and others. Pets are welcome, just clean up after them.
The location of the property was not as remote as we would have liked, but the area overall is wonderful. For those who like to be closer to town, this place fits the bill. We spent a good bit of time hiking in nearby preserves, and we couldn't have been more delighted to find a place that allows dogs. They had a great time too, which added to our enjoyment immensely. Hard to beat for the price!
This place was incredible. My boyfriend and I had never used AirBnB before so we weren't sure what to expect, but it was perfect. We watched movies, hung out on the beautiful porch, slept late and took it really easy. Charlotte's home is cozy and spacious at once-- great for a long weekend in the mountains. Recommend strongly.
What a beautiful cabin and comfy bed! We packed a cooler and grilled out on the patio which was lovely. But there is a grocery store near as well as lots of cute shops. We detoured out to dry falls which was one of her recommendations and was well worth the scenic trip. Lots of good hiking in the area. Would definitely recommend.
Love this rustic, yet seemingly majestic cabin of Charlotte's. Went away row a refreshing weekend and got all that and more. Cannot wait to find the good fortune and stay here again.
This beautiful cabin was exactly as described. My girlfriend and I spent a lovely Easter vacation here with her 2 year old daughter. We made a great Easter dinner with food from the local Ingles supermarket which was in the same shopping center as our hosts dinner recommendation of Fat Buddies which was delicious as well. We visited local waterfalls including the paved Dry Falls you can walk behind, went gem mining, took our car up a mountain to the Wayah Bald Look Out Tower, and spent every evening enjoying the view from the master bedroom porch after the little one was fast asleep from the days fun. It rained two nights and the porch was a perfect spot to watch the storm roll in and listen to the rain. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and our little one loved Charlotte's home as well.
The cabin was a great space for a relaxing vacation for my husband, my son and me. It was close enough to the Appalachian trail that we went and hiked a portion of it one day. Other days we checked out the many gorgeous waterfalls in the area, did some antiquing, chatted with a knowledgeable weaver in Franklin, drove to Asheville and visited Biltmore and the Folk Art Center. Even in mid-March the signs of spring just awakening made this a great trip. As others have said, the driveway up is a challenge. But once to the top, you arrive at a wonderful log cabin ensconced with trees. We were comfortable and had a good week!
PROS: My partner, Jared, and I are small business owners. We have limited funds and even less time, but really needed a place to escape to for the weekend. We loved staying here. We loved that there was no cell phone reception and no internet. We totally unplugged and relaxed in quiet, which is something we both desperately needed. We brought our small doggie and she slept the day away in the sunshine pouring in from all the huge windows in the cabin.
Charlotte had a ton of analog maps near the door that showcased all the waterfalls in the area. We loved that and thought it was a really nice touch. Our normal lives are jam packed every minute and we had ZERO time to research the area before we came. Without internet or cell reception we definitely wouldn't have found such cool places without the maps she left. We spent a whole day exploring the area and really fell in love with how beautiful Otto/Franklin/Highlands are.
We ate most of our meals on the gorgeous porch, soaking in the sun and nice weather.
Everything was clean, well laid out, and comfortable. Dish TV for late night zoning out, maps by the door for day exploring, peace and quiet all of the time. There is literally nothing more you need.
You're entering someone else's home. It's not a hotel, but that's part of the charm. It has a feeling of normalcy and warmth. We are so grateful to have been able to come here and at a price we could afford. We'll definitely be back!
NOTE ABOUT THE ROAD UP: From the other reviews it sounds like a lot of people didn't drop their car's gear down to ONE when climbing the hill. We have a Honda Fit, great on gas but only great for city driving. Drop your gear down to one, floor it, and even the smallest of cars will make it up the driveway. No problems here! Even after a muddy almost-spring-rain.
About the Host, Charlotte
My job, scattered friends and family, keep me busy and on the road a lot. I have the pleasure of living in the one place I consider my favorite place to travel, and I would like to share it with everyone. I grew up on the Northwest Gulf Coast of Florida.
By far my favorite for breakfast, take time to check out the old pictures. The new location was a bank, vault is wine storage. Deserts are worth every morsel!U.S. 441 Dillard GA 30537
One of the most photographed waterfalls in North Carolina. Slight pull over in a curve, but everyone knows people are there looking and photographing, just be careful, it is well worth the drive.NC
Great BBQ! I get stuck on the Carolina tenders, I know not BBQ, but I like the pulled pork as well. You get a variety of sauce choices. The atmosphere is geared to NASCAR collectibles.Westgate Plaza Franklin NC 28734
Another waterfall close to Cullasaja, this one has great parking, bathrooms, and a very nice new concrete trail. Most of the year you can walk behind this waterfall, it is a natural beauty year round.NC
Lookout tower here, dirt road. Prior to this sight left hand side look for dirt road. take it abt 1-2 miles to Morgan Rufus Trailhead. A favorite hike, has a beauty of a waterfallWayah Bald Rd NC 28734
