Rustic Log Cabin, rural, private

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Middle Creek Road, Otto, NC 28763, United States

The Space

I want you to enjoy your vacation and visit. This isn't my lively hood. I don't want the house vacant and I need to make ends meet like everyone. So the rate will stay low as long as everyone follows the rules and takes care of my home. Bring your clothes and groceries. Pots/pans, silverware, and other kitchen essentials are supplied. This is a 28x36 handcrafted rustic log home consisting of three levels.(Absolutely no smoking inside). The finished walk out basement has two 14”ICF walls and two 8” walls. The basement level consists of one full bath, one large bedroom(no bed), one large living area (24x18), and one storage area (At this time there is no bed in this room, feel free to bring an air mattress). There are two exits, one sliding door, and one French patio door. The main floor consists of kitchen, dining room, half bath, laundry room, and living area (24x18). Full size natural logs are exposed in the kitchen/dining area and serve as the floor joist for the master bedroom. A large natural cedar post is the support for the upper landing off the master bedroom. A handcrafted half log staircase leads to the master bedroom. The large master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a pebble stone walk-in shower. A large deck allows for peaceful sitting and views. A note about the bathrooms, the main level and master bath do not have doors. If privacy is a big deal, please go down to the basement, close and lock the door!

All trim throughout the house is rough sawn hemlock lumber, all beams are exposed, and ceilings are 2x6 T&G. The home is well insulated with blown in cellulose (8” walls in basement, 6” walls in master bedroom. The roof is 9” SIP panels covered with galvalume. The exterior walls of the master bedroom are covered with Nichiha fiber concrete siding cedar plank look. The railing for the stairs and outside deck has cedar top and bottom rails, and locust with bark on pickets. The railing for the master bedroom is hand hewn white cedar logs. The main level is 8x8 square hemlock logs.

The home is heated with a Lennox signature series 3 ton heat pump zoned for the main level and basement. The master bedroom has a ½ ton mini-split heat pump unit. A wood pellet stove is located on the main floor for a secondary source of heat. You really must see this home to appreciate the craftsmanship, the privacy of the location, and ease of access. Within 7 miles of Franklin, NC and 5 miles to Dillard, GA, lots of local scenery, hiking, antique malls, and much more.

The driveway is NOT motorcycle friendly, it is slightly steep incline with loose gravel. I drive my Prius up and down with no problem. I tell people just "put your foot in the gas and go like you mean it"

AND yes the house is for sale!

  • Such a beautiful log cabin! We were so pleased with the stay, exactly as described. A little far from the Smokey Mountains but not a bad trek.

  • Charlotte has a very unique and beautiful home located near Franklin, NC. Her home is equipped with everything that would be needed for one night or a month or longer. It is located near Sylva, Highlands and the Smokey Mountains. I found Charlotte's description of her home to be very accurate. You sure can't beat the price if you want to stay near the mountains.

  • We had a wonderful stay, the home is warm and cozy, but surprisingly big! It was a treat to sit with coffee and a book out on one of the three (!) deck areas......very private and quiet, but only a few miles away from shops, cafes and restaurants. The area is beautiful as well, we took several drives up in the mountains and saw many waterfalls, streams and lakes. Charlotte has obviously put in a lot of work on this property, and I suspect she has plans to do even more. The place has a sort of comfy, lived in, organic feel to it. It isn't perfect, and if it were it wouldn't be nearly as charming. We'll go back again if she'll have us!

  • This home is beautiful, comfy, large, and has a great mountain feel. However, the drive way (clay rough and steep) is difficult to traverse, especially after or during rain. Our 2 wheel drive SUV got stuck so we were forced to wait until the clay dried out the following day to leave. Nevertheless, the cabin was a great place to be stuck! I suggest exploring the waterfalls in the area!

  • My fiancé and I LOVED this cabin. We felt super spoiled when we watched the sun rise over the mountains, from the covered deck attached to the master bedroom. From the beautiful wood work, to the cozy furniture, this cabin was welcoming and warm! We had fun traveling to the local areas for good hikes, fun shops, and great people. We will definitely be staying here again!!!

  • It was awesome! I couldn't believe how nice this log home was and how large. Very secluded and nestled up on a hill. Views of mountains in the distance. Watched 3 deer enter the yard and graze while I drank coffee on the deck in the peace and serenity of the evening. You will want to make it a point to schedule some time to just enjoy the peace of this place if you stay here. But, don't worry there is satellite TV too if you are afraid of feeling too disconnected from the modern world. All of the land around this area is beautiful. Only a short drive from hiking and waterfall viewing. Also close to the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad train ride in Bryson City. (We did all those things while staying at this log home.) This is a bargain. I couldn't believe we got this for the price we did and we would re-live every moment of the whole experience if we could!

  • This cabin is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. If I make it back to the area again this will definitely be my first choice to stay at. The surrounding forest was beautiful and it didn't take long to get to the Great Smoky Mountains. The host was extremely polite and did a great job with answering my questions.

  • We had wonderful days at the cabin - Thanks very much for the great opportunity Charlotte!

  • I stayed here during my birthday as a "get away" retreat. The time was very refreshing. Loved my time on the balcony off the master bedroom. You are amongst the tree tops and have a great view of a mountain in the distance. There appears to be surrounding neighbors as I heard dog barks during the day but I felt isolated with all the trees so it was perfect. I visited the town of Franklin and the locals are very friendly and charming. They were more than happy to give me their advice on where I should go sight-seeing or restaurants I should eat at. Charlotte was very kind as well. She went far beyond the call of host when I left some of my belongings in the closet.

    Loved my stay.

  • My husband and I spent our second wedding anniversary in this beautiful cabin. It is truly that, beautiful! Your home is everything we could dream of for a cabin in the woods. We had a wonderful stay in little "Otto" and took excursions to Cherokee and the many rivers surrounding. What a super location for fun as well. Again, this is a wonderful getaway and we are planning to come back as often as we can.

My job, scattered friends and family, keep me busy and on the road a lot. I have the pleasure of living in the one place I consider my favorite place to travel, and I would like to share it with everyone. I grew up on the Northwest Gulf Coast of Florida.
