About this listing
Discover why New York Magazine just featured our listing - and support one of NYC's best volunteer organizations!
We have a nicely furnished room with private bath and private balcony available in an amazing new walk-up penthouse (featured in a New York Times Real Estate cover story, and a recent episode of NBC's Today Show) - with Virtual Concierge service - less than a block from the subway. All the best of Williamsburg is within walking distance and the subway is right on our block, with Manhattan's Union Square is less than 10 minutes from your door!
What people DON'T like about our place:
- It's a walk-up. Though we prefer to think of it as a built-in gym.
The apartment is a 1,000sq ft duplex penthouse with a great layout, three private outdoor spaces (complete with grill), amazing southern and northern light, tree/sky/city views and a wonderful airy feel. All the great details are here: wide-plank ash wood floors, custom lighting, climate control, high-speed WiFi and color network printing, a gorgeous bathroom with Jacuzzi tub / rain shower, a CeasarStone & stainless steel kitchen with dishwasher and microwave, great closet space, a huge projection wall for Netflix, HBO, YouTube, etc., and a modern outdoor fireplace.
Your room has an uber-comfortable comfortable full sized bed featuring the legendary Casper mattress. We even have an Aerobed that fits next to it to accommodate a third guest and a Guava travel crib for the littlest ones. There are two roomy closets, an iPod dock/radio, city views (including the beautiful Chrystler Building), northern exposure, and a private balcony.
My wife and I live in the upstairs bedroom and have our own bathroom so you can have one all for yourself. We're responsible, clean and considerate. Free in-house laundry is available for any stays longer than 6 nights and bi-weekly maid service is included free of charge. If this sounds good to you give us a shout!
5% of your booking will go to support Youth Service Opportunities Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings young people to the city to volunteer in service of our homeless. Look up YSOP NYC online to learn more!
You'll have your own private bedroom with balcony and closets and your own full bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and rain shower. You're free to use the living room and kitchen as much as you like. You'll find gourmet coffee beans, a grinder and French press available for your morning pick-me up, and we grow our own organic herbs on the deck which you're welcome to use when cooking at home.
The laundry machines (available to guests staying 6 nights or longer) and roof garden are upstairs off of our bedroom. Both are available for use during the daytime or even at night when we're out. If the door to the upstairs is wide open you're free to come in. If its shut please knock first. :)
Interaction with guests
Normally our schedules differ from week to week, but we're usually up by 7am for breakfast and home by 7pm. :)
With a diverse demographic that includes prominent Hasidic and Latino communities, semi-industrial Williamsburg, Brooklyn, attracts young—and not-so-young—cool-hunters from all over the city. But it's not just about hanging out in neo-rustic bars and sporting vintage hats and Amish-esque facial hair—the 'Burg is a serious gastro destination and arty enclave, with a strong Do-It-Yourself spirit.
We love living in the city's best food neighborhood and have been completely spoiled by the amazing variety of restaurants here. The art and music scene here is also second-to-none!
We live right on the L subway line, so you can be in the downtown Manhattan in less than 10 minutes. Williamsburg is also covered in Citi Bike stations. They're just $10 per day. There are two stations right around the corner from our place! Highly recommended!
Other things to note
Our cat loves people but he's not super-fond of dogs. :(
- Please be clean and considerate.
- We have a baby so there is no smoking allowed inside or on the terrace, but you can feel free to smoke on your private balcony or on the balcony off of the living room.
- NYC law requires that we recycle. See the recycling guidelines posted on the bulletin board for all the details on what and can't be recycled in NYC.
- We do our best not to wear shoes in the house.
- Our roof deck can get very windy, and our patio umbrella has blown onto the street before. Its very important that the umbrella remain closed when there is nobody on the roof!
- The heat from our dishwasher will damage anything made of wood, so please hand wash that stuff. The rest can go in the dishwasher (plastic on top, of course).
- What else? Don't steal our stuff, don't leave lights on when you're away or do other things your mother would not approve of.
That's about it!
From Jan 1 - Feb 28, 2017 the minimum stay is 4 nights.
We host Airbnb folks all year-round in our Brooklyn penthouse. NYC residents for over ten years, we know "The City" very well, and we'd be happy to help you make the most of your stay. Pilar just had a baby (our first), which makes this year especially exciting!
