ABOUT HENLEY ON THAMES
When Henley on Thames throws a party the world notices. This is a town with an international reputation for the world's greatest rowing regatta, the 'joie de vivre' of the summer arts festival plus 80's music fest Rewind to measure up to. And Henley respects tradition.
A 12th century South Oxfordshire market town, Henley's historic heart sits a few strides from the river Thames. The main street has many Georgian frontages covering older buildings and among the 300 buildings within the town designated 'of special architectural or historical interest' are St Mary's church, the town hall, market place and Henley Bridge. Pick up '10 Brilliant things to do', the Henley Environment Trail, the 'Henley Trail' the Henley Town Map or the Visit Midsomer - Southern Trail leaflets to provide more inspiration.
Henley's riverside location – surrounded by a Chiltern landscape of wooded hills and green fields – lends itself to relaxation, long lunches and power shopping. There's a pub where Charles I drank, a Chantry house, a butcher that smokes his own bacon and shops still offering a personal touch.
This is a town dedicated to enjoying the river. So bring a picnic, pick up a copy of Wind in the Willows and settle for an hour on the waterfront. Watch others messing about on the river, or hire a boat and join in the fun – the summer straw boater and stripy blazer combo is optional.

The Royal Regatta and Music and Arts Festival are established highlights of the English social season and give Henley an international reputation but did you know that both Dusty Springfield and George Harrison lived in Henley-upon-Thames until their untimely deaths?

What's on in Henley on Thames:
Henley could easily be renamed Festival-on-Thames for the number and variety of annual arts, sports and traditional events hosted in and around the town.
Each summer 'Henley Reach' sees the world's elite rowers compete at the Royal Regatta. They are cheered on by spectators enjoying the sport, the champagne and the strawberries. Enclosure dress code is strictly enforced yet non-enclosure spectators can equally soak up the occasion and encourage the crews. It's free to watch from the riverside so pick your spot well.
Henley Festival of Music and Arts attracts some of the world´s top entertainers to perform on a floating stage in front of a dinner-jacketed audience. Mixing classical, jazz and popular music, the festival also includes exhibitions of art and sculpture.
Remember to also look out for the fabulous Henley Fringe where many performers hone their acts for Edinburgh; Henley Literary Festival one of the preeminent festivals on the circuit, attracting a host of famous authors, and the 80's Rewind Festival.
Please keep the place tidy and neat and be considerate with excessively loud music, particularly after 11pm. Thank you.
We had a lovely stay at Shahids flat. The flat is very well kept, absolutely spotless and is stocked with everything needed for a few days stay, including fresh fruit and plenty for breakfast, which is prepared in the kitchen. Shahid was very welcoming and showed us how to work everything in the flat. The location is great with Henley town centre a convenient 10 minute walk away.
We would definitely stay again if we find ourselves back in Henley.
We had a lovely stay at this wonderful little apartment located very central to Henley on Thames town. Our host Shahid went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to ensure our stay was very pleasant. The apartment was WELL stocked - lots of supplies and complimentary food in cupboards free to use at your leisure, clean and comfortable! We had a great stay and would recommend.
Mr. Shahid & his family shows outstanding example for the ideal host, Studio is well equipped, clean, cozy, the bed is the comfortable tempura mattress, the quiet neighborhood makes night unique sleeping experience.
The refrigerator & kitchen was full of food & Fruit, beverage, spices, sauces.
even little details was taken care of, such as shampoo, conditioner, creams, extra toilet papers, hangers, shoe polish, emergency kit,......etc
car parking is convenient & internet Wi-Fi was really fast.
Shahid and his family were very good hosts. They left us alone but we knew we could ask for any help if we needed any during our stay. The apartment is small but very well equipped. There was even shoe polish which was a welcome surprise as it turned out I needed some. There was a bowl of fresh fruit on the table and a hearty breakfast in the fridge for us. The apartment was very clean and extremely comfortable. Shahid provided a manual with all the information we needed about the apartment, the local and surrounding area. We would definitely stay there again.
We had such a lovely stay in Shahid's apartment in Henley. Put simply if you are looking for a secluded, private home in Henley on Thames then you really should look no further. This apartment could not have been more comfortable - private entrance, huge Queen sized Tempur-Pedic mattress, brand new state of the art kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, extremely clean and well looked after and maintained - everything we could have needed. Shahid very kindly stocked the entire fridge for me and my two children, which was well beyond the call of duty and hugely appreciated. Cant say enough nice things about our stay and we will most certainly be back. A must stay apartment if you are looking to stay in Henley.
We stayed with Shahid for 4 nights, and it all started with a misunderstanding. We had intended to be half-way between Oxford and London to be able to visit both in reasonable distance. However, we turned out to leave Oxford out and focus on London and the near area there. So while there will be surely places nearer for that our stay turned out to be a perfect experience! Shahid's apartment is a one-room studio apartment with separate entrance in his own house. It is best suited for two but we managed to stay there as a family of three with our daughter also conveniently. Apparently, we were one of the first visitors, and one can tell that Shahid has designed everything as if it was for himself and family. Refigerator, washing machine, microwave, and oven as well as a very comfortable tempur matrass, moder ZV and wifi equipment all new and of high quality are testament for this. It credibly seemed that Shahids only misson is to give us a pleasant stay. Thank you, Shahid! We will surely be back when we visit the most pleasant and picturesque city of Henly-on-Thames.
