Interaction with Guests
I am happy to tell you some local history of our beautiful city and the river. Galway has some wonderful restaurants such as Ard Bia at Nimmos and Kai Café within easy walking distance, while Tigh Neachtins and The Beirhaus are great for a pint. The Galway Market beside St Nicholas Church is worth a ramble through on Saturdays.
Guests a welcome to use the kitchen. But it is a strict Vegetarian kitchen only.
No smoking in the house please.
My stay with Sheila and her family was absolutely fantastic. I was truly made to feel welcome, and am so grateful that I was able to stay there. The house is in a beautiful spot by the river, very close to train and bus stations, the city centre, and wonderful river walks, and has a wonderful feel about it. The room is cosy, clean, and comfortable. Sheila was very conscious of my dietary needs and was immensely helpful. It turned out I couldn't get out much because of illness, but reading by the fire with the cats, taking baths in the beautiful bathroom, walking by the river, and chatting in the kitchen still allowed me to enjoy being away. I feel like staying with Sheila was the best possible decision, and if I hadn't chosen her room, my trip could well have been a disaster. Now I've come back feeling much better and inspired. And determined to make a habit of regularly making healthy juices! I can't recommend Sheila enough as a host. And I will definitely be back.
What a home away from home, from the tiny wood heater in lounge to cat sleeping lazily on the window sill, to the scones and jams left out for guests in the warm kitchen stocked well with health foods and teas. Sheila was a generous host, a listening ear, offered lift to bus station and supermarket, went online to help with a trip which her sister followed up for me. In all it felt like being with friends and I was prepared to stay longer in my cute single room with immaculate white sheets, had a vacancy been available. Snap up the time when you can: it is so central and riverine. Barbara
My stay with Sheila was hands down the best airbnb experience I've ever had. She's an absolutely lovely person, and I felt a part of the household immediately upon my arrival. I would work during the day, but in the morning and evening had some really delightful conversation with her, and her sister when she would stop in for a visit. I'm gluten intolerant, but didn't mention that previously to her in our emails, though as soon as she learned of it she went right out and provided me with gluten-free bagels (along with freshly pressed orange juice!) every morning. Her hospitality is extraordinary, and will never be forgotten. Her house is situated right along the river which provides a really nice stroll into the city center which is only a 5 minute walk. I can't say enough good things about my stay there... I only wish it were longer!
Sheila made me feel welcome from the start and she gave me very clear directions as to how to get to her house. Her lovely house was cosy and warm with a really friendly feel and her two cats were a bonus. She also helped me to plan activities around the area as I had not been there before. Sheila had a lovely breakfast on the table every morning with freshly brewed coffee. My room was lovely with a nice view and comfortable bed. She even drove me to the station because my suitcase was heavy. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Sheila
Honestly? I couldn't have asked for a better host for my first AirBnB experience! Sheila was absolutely fantastic! My stay at her house was one of the highlights of my holiday. If I ever come back to Galway I hope she's got rooms available as I'd love to stay there again.
Sheila is lovely - so easy to talk to - she made me feel at home right away, and was always ready to help if I needed directions or info that only a local would know.
The house is very centrally located, barely a 5 minute walk from Eyre Square (probably more like 3 minutes), so it's great for being close to the action. The river is close by and the cathedral so there are some stunning views. The house itself is filled with personality and charm and is as welcoming as Sheila herself.

About the Host, Sheila
Hi, I’m Sheila and I was born in this house, built by my great grandfather in 1887. Though I have a degree in Textile Design and teach art, my passion is
ecology/environment. I am co-founder of Green Sod Ireland, working to establish WildAcres across Ireland to create safe habitats, vital for biodiversity. I am vegetarian, an animal lover and though I’ve always had dogs I how have two rescued cats. I love the Visual Arts, reading and good food…… I’m easy-going and enjoy meeting new people, so looking forward to welcoming you to Galway. It’s a lovely city, more like a small town, full of culture and craic.
