Our house, in an old neighbourhood surrounded by nature, lies in the heart of the city, with the Townhall Theatre around the corner and within sight of the Salmon Weir. Ideal location for exploring Galway's shops, pubs, restaurants and nightlife, also the University campus, NUIGalway and Black Box Theatre.
This location is also an ideal starting point for a riverside walk all the way to the famous Salthill Promenade.
The room is a bright single room overlooking a small park. Character and charm, with comfort and a great location.
Facilities include wifi, street parking, cooking facilities (vegetarian kitchen only). Help yourself to tea/coffee, cereal, bread, fruit etc. In the evening if you wish to stay in, you can warm up by the turf stove. The bathroom is shared (by no more then 2 others). There is a wide range of books and magazines for you to enjoy.
I am happy to tell you some local history of our beautiful city and the river. Galway has some wonderful restaurants such as Ard Bia at Nimmos and Kai Café within easy walking distance, while Tigh Neachtins and The Beirhaus are great for a pint. The Galway Market beside St Nicholas Church is worth a ramble through on Saturdays.
To choose spending my 3 week stay with Sheila was such a great option!Perfectly located house halfway between the university and the city center, Sheila offers a character vintage house that soon becomes a home. Friendly and enthusiasticshe gave me the best indications to enjoy this beautiful city ... even in February! Thank you for everything! I really look forwad to meet you again in December.
I had such a wonderful time staying with Sheila for 4 days. She was immediately helpful in thinking of things that would help my research, and very kind (I came in having smashed my finger from my luggage and she had a bandaid ready). The house is absolutely wonderful - she puts out really nice things for breakfast and it is really wonderful to curl up by the fire in the sitting room. I left feeling like I had a really relaxing vacation for a few days. Also, the house is close to everything, and she can tell you where almost everything is. Such a wonderful few days, I want to go back already!
Sheila's home is the perfect option for anyone traveling to Galway. I've been to Galway several times, always staying in a hotel, but this time around I thought I would try airbnb. Her home is rich in history, centrally located, and just across from the Salmon Weir (beautiful views!). From the moment you arrive, I guarantee you will experience nothing but true Irish hospitality 100% of the time -- from freshly squeezed OJ, scones, and tea, to the peat fire in the living room, you really do feel like you are at home.
The room was absolutely perfect, and the bathroom beautifully decorated! She also has two adorable and affectionate cats who want to cuddle with you by the fire.
Sheila is a delight to stay with, and I am looking forward to my next trip back! Do yourself a favor, and if you are planning on visiting Galway -- stay with Sheila! You won't regret it!
Sheila is a fantastic host. I felt at home instantly in her lovely house. She made fresh orange juice for us in the morning which was a lovely. I had the single room, and it was very comfortable. Location is great, quiet but really central. I will definitely stay with Sheila again.
Sheila is cool- it may sound stereotypical, but she's an interested, engaging host who is happy to help in any way. Not only does she reply promptly (which I think is important), but she was excellent about communication prior to my arrival including a great map to her house. I truly felt with Sheila that I experienced what it's like to live in Galway for a few days. That's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. Excellent, healthy breakfast as well.
And if you are not a cat lover (like me), don't be put off by cats in the house! These are two of the calmest, do their own thing cats I've ever seen. They are not allowed in guest rooms, ect and honestly, rarely move from the wood stove. But then, that was my favorite room as well. Really enjoyed my stay here, highly recommend.
My stay in Shelia’s home was really pleasant; her house is lovely, very clean and right in the centre of Galway city. She is great company, it was delightful to chat with her in the evening, she has lots of interests, and she is an inspiring person! I highly recommend to stay at Shelia’s to anyone who is visiting Galway, I am planning to go back myself very soon :-)
I thoroughly enjoyed my five nights' stay at Sheila's. Centrally located, clean, quiet, lots of privacy, the use of a nice kitchen, healthy options for breakfast, and interesting conversation to boot. I'll happily stay here again when I'm in Galway next. Highly recommended.
I stayed only 2 nights with Sheila but I had a great time. She is a perfect host, very warm and welcoming and easy to talk to. Sheila arranged with a friend to let me in because she was at wokr when I arrived. I was very grateful. Thank you, Sheila! The house is absolutely lovely and the room has a very comfy bed. The house is located in walking distance from the city centre.
I highly recommend Sheilas house and would stay with her again anytime.
My 3 week-nights at Sheila's home were extremely comfortable. A warm fire at night and the most delicious fresh, organic breakfasts to start the day of exploring Galway. The house is at the River with a park across the street, so a superb urban location with the variety of environments: a short stroll round the corner or up the road for city convenience. Sheila is a very generous host & a quietly active passionate Irishwoman. Special.
Sheila is just the best host. Her house is located within easy walking distance from everything. I met her daughter, her daughter's friends, her friends ... was made to feel right at home. The local knowledge about what to see in the limited time I had was invaluable. Even better though I left my glasses there and Sheila packed them up and forwarded them on without hesitation ... definitely beyond the call of duty.
