  • Sheila lives what hosting is about! She was easy to talk with and amenable to me for every second of my visit. The room was small, but had a charm about it, and clean. The bath while shared amongst up to three during my stay was easy to negotiate. We're I to return to galway in the future, I would without a doubt choose Sheila's home. She made me home made orange juice in the mornings and was full of great advise regarding what to see and what to skip. I felt like I was simply staying with a friend. It's like she read me and simply understood the kind of trip I needed! What better could you ask for! Better place for singles or couples... Not a party house.

  • To put it simply, I already miss being in Galway with Sheila. I felt so at home, and hope that I can visit again soon. Sheila is such a wonderful host, she welcomed me with her generosity and easy-going attitude. I miss having breakfast with her and chatting by the fire in the evenings. Her home is so beautiful, and Sheila made sure that I had everything I needed - from a hair dryer to freshly squeezed orange juice every morning. Have no doubt, you will be happy here!

  • Rooms at Sheila's are small, clean and eclectic. A quite appealing place with quirky art and books everywhere. The real draw here is Sheila herself, a welcoming, high energy person who knows everything about Galway. And...the breakfasts are great.

  • Really nice spot right in town, close walk to everything I'd want to see! Had a great comfortable stay. Sheila and Mary were great hosts. Would definitely stay again. Everything as advertised.

  • It has been sheer pleasure for me staying with Sheila. The location of her house is perfect - walking distance anywhere (10 min. walk from the train and bus stations, 5 min. walk to center along the river, internet cafe - for those who need it) quiet, swans and geese your neighbors in the river just across, shopping center and supermarkets within 5 min.
The room was most comfortable, never had a problem with shared bathroom.
Sheila really opened her home, prepared fresh orange juice in the morning, everything you need for breakfast, including good coffee, especially if you are vegetarian or vegan.
I feel privileged for having known Sheila and will be happy to stay with her in the future and meet again.

  • I loved my stay with Sheila! She made me feel right at home. Her place is an easy walk to the bus station as well as all of the sites in central Galway. She put out a lovely breakfast each morning with fresh orange juice. Loved it! I would definitely recommend her place if traveling to Galway!

  • Sheila is a wonderful hostess, very friendly and great to chat with; she's a native of Galway & made great recommendations for tours & things to do in and around the city. And so convenient, right in Galway City, so I was able to walk everywhere! For anyone travelling thru Ireland without a car, like me, this is a great option as I could walk to bus and train stations in a few minutes.

  • I'm very happy of my stay in Galway in Sheila's home. She is a friendly and sympathetic person. The room is small but very well situated in front of a park and the river and at 5 minutes of the city center. Breakfasts are large and very good. I recommend her without reserve and I would go back to her home with great pleasure.

Green Sod Ireland
Hi, I’m Sheila and I was born in this house, built by my great grandfather in 1887. Though I have a degree in Textile Design and teach art, my passion is ecology/environment. I am co-founder of Green Sod Ireland, working to protect Irish ecosystems and that’s where I’m in my element! I am vegetarian, an animal lover and though I’ve always had dogs I how have two rescued cats. In 1987, myself and my sister bought, restored and now maintain a small Joycean museum: The Nora Barnacle House in Galway city, just a short distance from my home. I love the Visual Arts, reading and good food…… I’m easy-going and enjoy meeting new people, so looking forward to welcoming you to Galway. It’s a lovely city, more like a small town, full of culture and craic.
