We loved Kailua and had a nice couple of nights stay at Johns. We made use of his bikes and took him up on his offer of using the car, this was very helpful! It was nice and close to bike to the town and beach and had a lovely big bathroom and comfy bed.
Great place to stay in beautiful Kailua - close to the amenities of the town and cycle distance to the most amazing beach. Sadly it was too windy to take advantage of the sea kayak that John includes in his rental (as well as bikes, surf board, stand-up paddle boards) but John was very helpful and knowledgeable about other things to do in the nearby area.
John can also catch you fresh fish which you can grill up on the back patio by the lovely pool :)
Room is part of a family home, but you have plenty of privacy - amazing shower, private en-suite, private kitchen and living room. Most comfortable bed I've slept in away from home!
Thanks for having us!
From the moment we arrived we felt like we were at home. John greeted us at the house and showed us the ropes. The room was very clean and cozy, everything we expected and more. Great location in Kailua, close to the beach and restaurants. The kitchen was a great amenity for us to utilize for cooking breakfasts and storing snacks. I will definately keep this place in mind for future vacations to Oahu. I highly recommend staying here.
Great value for money , a perfect location and an accommodating host :-) I used one of Johns bikes which he pre warned me was rusty but was absolutely fine once Id worked out the brakes! If you like a long lie in then a) you shouldn't in kailua there is too much to see but b) the chickens will have other ideas ! For me the quirkiness just made my stay even more enjoyable. I cant comment on kitchen stuff as I didnt use it there was a great wholefoods just along the road which did great take out - thanks john.
We had a great time staying in Kailua and John was a fantastic host. We would definitely come back again and recommend his place to friends.
When we first arrived, it was quite dark and a bit confusing because there is a large wooden gate you have to slide and get through, but we figured it out eventually and walked into a very spacious kitchen area and living room area that is shared with other travelers. The front two burners on the propane stove do not work and the two in the back that are functioning seem to have their settings on backwards. The largest flame you will get is when the dial is turned to low. The kitchen comes fully equipped and has everything you would need.
Our generous host also offers the use of his bicycles (little bit rusty but who cares, they work and they're free!) to get around the city, body boards to play in the waves, kayaks, and also a pool is available in the backyard.
I really enjoyed watching the funny bunch of chicken that run around the yard in the morning and he also has a dog that will occasionally come hang out with you in the kitchen area.
The kitchen is well furnished with toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, and a full sized oven but this may need updating because some of the buttons do not work and we were not able to use it.
Everything was kept very neat and tidy. John makes very obvious effort to maintain his home for us to enjoy.
Overall we had a really great time and all our needs were met. There are only a few minor things that just need updating because they are well used.
We were at Johns for 2 days, very easy to find. The accommodations were very clean and suitable for what we needed, we would definitely stay again.
John was friendly and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and nice and so was the kitchen. The bus connections were great and it was easy to go anywhere. (Tip: use timetables from Google maps!) One day we borrowed Johns car and it was really cheap and nice.
We checked in when John was at work and seemed busy, so we didn't get that good introduction for the house and the facilities (recycling, washing laundry, using the bikes, who else lives in the house, etc.) but John was happy to answer all questions later on.
