The Space

Hi,
I live here in Tyndale in the middle of the hadrian wall country. I have two double bedrooms available. The bedrooms both offer great views of surrounding countryside.

I have created over the winter a flickr page where you can see photos of the local area through the seasons, the website is (website hidden)

Interesting things in Tynedale:
Local sites include Hadrian’s Wall, Housesteads Roman fort (Vercovicium), Vindolanda Roman fort and museum, Steel Rigg and Cragg Lough. Further afield is Kielder Reservoir and Kielder Observatory.
Local activities include rambling (Hadrian’s Path National Trail and the Pennine Way National Trail), rock climbing (High Shield Craggs and Steel Rigg provide perfect bouldering opportunities for competent climbers), bird watching and wildlife (from Old High Shield curlews, owls, and buzzards can be seen and Grindon Lough is a popular spot), cycling (Hadrian’s Cycleway National Route 72, Pennine Cycleway National Route 68,
Fishing is also a popular activity and there are plenty of opportunities for trout and salmon fishing on nearby rivers and lakes. The North Tyne is one of the most prolific salmon rivers in England. I have fishing rods and equipment if you wish to borrow them. Most clubs sell day permits to allow visitors the opportunity to give it a go.
Also nearby is the beautiful Northumberland coastline with several castles dotted along the coast, they include; Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Lindisfarne, Dunstanburgh. National Trust properties include Cragside House and Gardens, Wallington Hall.

How to get here :
Southview is located between the two villages of Fourstones and Newbrough (the villages are only ½ mile apart) and it is connected to Hexham (the nearest town) by a bus that runs hourly Monday to Saturday. It takes about 15 mins and is about a 4 mile ride one way. Travelling by car take the exit 2 miles west of Hexham on the A69, signposted to Fourstones and follow this road for approximately 2 miles until you reach the village. As your travelling through the village you’ll pass a petrol station on your left, I am the first house on the right handside past the station.
If your travelling by public transport whenever I can I will endeavour to pick you up from Hexham.
Here are some useful web links for transport and what to do and see here in Tynedale.

  • We had a lovely stay near Hexham. Steve is a great host, and it was lovely to meet his daughter and Mum as well. Steve was a very helpful and generous host with local knowledge, suggestions on where to eat, sites to see etc, as well as scenic routes to take when we left.
Our room was large and very comfortable, with beautiful views over the fields. The house is well situated to take in all the attractions and activities in the area of Hadrians Wall.

  • Staying with Steve was one of the best experiences we had in England. He's very friendly and his daughter is adorable. He gave us great recommendations and he was very helpful with maps and directions.

  • We really enjoyed our time at Steve's! He was very welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. His home is perfectly situated for exploring Hadrian's wall. His home is a little tricky to find however, but we stopped at the Red Lion Inn, got directions from the locals, had a pint, and were on our way : ) We actually went back to the Lion Inn that evening and had a great dinner! Our room was very spacious and clean and nicely furnished. Steve provided great breakfast and conversation the next morning before we went to Hadrian's wall. We had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer! We would definitely recommend Steve's home!

  • Steve was helpful and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. Not quite as neat and organized we would have liked.

    Response from Steve:

Hi, I am really very sorry that Richard feels that way. On reflection all I can say is, I offered exactly the same level of hospitality and organisational effort that i have put into the 37 other visits I have hosted. Up until now I have had 3 years worth of 100% positive reviews.
The rooms and and the house generally where in the same state of "neatness" as all the other visits I have had. The only thing that I think that could have caused this type of review was that, the family decided to get up at 6.15am (previous night had suggested a 7.00am get up) to have a bath and get ready etc, however the water heater is normally programmed to come on at 6.45 so if I had known the change in plans naturally I would have sorted the water heater to come on sooner.
So as said at the top of the page I'm sorry it didnt live up to Richard's standards, but the service I have provided for the other previous 37 visitors ( over 3 years) has proved to be satisfactory as can be seen from my, up until then 100% good review record. I hope this one review doesnt disproportionally dissuade other airbnb visitors. Steve

  • Steve was a wonderful host! He couldn't have been more welcoming. We were attending a wedding in Northumberland and Steve went out of his way and picked us up from the station and dropped us off at the wedding and the station when we left, and made us a lovely breakfast. The house is lovely in a great location surrounded by views and good for walks. We would definitely recommend staying here.

  • Steve has a beautiful home and is an extremely welcoming and warm host. He even managed to find some electrical tape we needed, and offered us wine! Wonderful stay. Thank you Steve. Oh, I didn't even mention that he got up at six thirty on a Sunday to make sure we were all ok before we set off for The Great North Run.

  • What a beautiful corner of the world! A lovely place with a generous bedroom and fabulous views out onto the rolling hills of Northumberland. Sadly we had only a very short stay (two nights) and wished that this could have been more.. and the Red Lion is indeed a good local!

Steve was easy-going and very accommodating even giving me a lift into Newcastle on his way to work. Would stay here again.

    Many thanks,
    MaryJo

  • Steve is a very nice host, who warmly and simply welcomed us in his house. I would recommend to anyone looking for a place in this region.

  • Steve was relaxed, friendly, and was easy to contact about arrival times etc. No problems with finding his house via (website hidden). Our room upstairs had beautiful views over the countryside and was light and airy. Bed comfortable, bathroom clean and if we had more time to spend, would have liked to explore the surrounding fields/countryside more (biking from here would be particularly good). Steve had breakfast ready for us, which we didn't get a chance to eat but looked great.
