My grandfather was a great smoker and died of lung cancer in 1997. My grandmother is also a great smoker but didn't get lung cancer, instead she got two heart attacks in 2002. Since then she was moved to my aunt. I instead have lived 7 years abroad, and never smoked! On my return home i found this house, where i grew up, in a relatively bad shape.. An immediate feeling of sadness came to me and i decided i should do something about it. So after weeks i did as much DIY as i could to put the house back in form and now i'm seeking your help to finish the job :) All money collected through AirBnb will go towards the restoring of the house.
So let me tell you about this house:
From the outside it's quite big and the living area is on the upper floor that contains 2 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 1 bathroom and 1 kitchen immersed in an amazing garden of circa 200 mt2 that boasts cherry trees, pines, pear tree, peach tree, roses and many other flowers, the great river arno is at walking distance and my grandfather used to dive in it till the 70s, is not recommended anymore tho :)
About the house: 2 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen. There is a tv but i'm not sure it has a signal however i would be very sad to know people watch tv in this house as there's too much to walk and enjoy nature all around the place.

Très bon moment à Signa. Notre hôte était des plus charmant. :-)
We stayed only 2 days in that very charming house and like it very very much! Matteo was at travel, so we was welcomed by his uncle - Gianfranco - who is the very good man, enjoy meeting and chatting with him. House is old, but very nice, you have your green area on the river Arno! All neccesary things are in the house. It is located in Signa and well connected to the Firenza by trains, 5-10 min walk to the station and less then 20 to the center, so if you have car, it's better to leave it at house (like we do). Very nice place! We wish good luck in house restoration!
My boyfriend and I stayed in this house for 3 nights in September and it was very interesting experience. We were really enjoyed staying here and did not want to leave. It's a peaceful place near the river with turtles, birds, lizards and beautiful garden. I think here you can feel the spirit of Tuscany. We were welcomed by Gianfranco (Matteo's uncle). Very friendly man! Gianfranco gave us some vegetables from his garden and it were the most delicious tomatos which I ever ate. Grazie, Gianfranco!
It is really amazing place! Hope to get back in this house soon. We were traveling by car and left it near the house to go to Florence by the train (it is more convenient). If you will travelling by car like we, visit San Gimignano. It is a wonderfull old town with towers about 1 hour journey from Signa.
We truly recommend this house!
We stayed two nights at the house. The house is´very tuscany and nice. The garden is just bautiful. there is a nice kitchen, bathroom and everything you need for a short stay,
Matteo's home in Signa is a terrific place to stay if you are looking to experience the Tuscan countryside with easy access to downtown Florence. Florence is compact enough for sightseeing that staying in Signa will not overcomplicate your schedule. Matteo and his Uncle go out of their way to coordinate your stay and welcome you to Tuscany. The home is quite spacious and offers a great backyard that sits on top of the Arno River.
I stayed here for 6 nights and it was an unforgettable experience. It's a very peaceful place to stay. Matteo speaks good English and was very good at responding to messages.
The house is located on the edge of Signa, in a large family run fruit and vegetable plantation. Matteo's uncle, Gianfranco, works there for a few hours in the morning and afternoon/evening. Whilst working very hard, he listens to Brahms. He gave me some delicious vegetables and salad including some of the best potatoes I've ever eaten (like new potatoes but massive). He also organised a very enjoyable party in the garden one evening with Italian sausages and ribs roasted over a fire.
This is a perfect base from which to explore the countryside and it's only a very short, cheap train journey (15min, €2.50) into Florence. I'm an artist and spent most of my time drawing in the beautiful garden.
I'd have given it perfect marks but the kitchen was a bit messy when I arrived. As Matteo describes, the place is in need of renovation. It could also do with a decent spring clean. It's basic but a very spacious, pleasant and really good value place to stay. The fact that it has wi-fi is a great bonus. I found it worked quite well - for example, I could use (website hidden) and internet radio with no problems. The running water was absolutely fine, even so, I was given bottles of mineral water to drink.
Gianfranco and Matteo were very welcoming to me and are lovely people. Thanks very much for letting me stay!
The house of Matteos grand parents is located at the river with a garden around. The train can´t be heard from the bedroom, it is really quiet and peaceful although it is in the middle of the town. Its only a few km from Firence. There are mosquito nets in front of the window so you can have a relaxed night. WLan is also available.
We booked for two days but left after the first night because we were scared about the place. It was so dirty, hot and uncomfortable!
First we didn't find it because Matteo said it's No. 1C, but 1C is an empty space and didn't have any house on it. just after searching and going through a bridge and looking around we found out that it's no. 1B which doesn't have any signs and was very hidden.
The light in the kitchen didn't work, so we couldn't cook. Which was better because the kitchen was so dirty, that we wouldn't want to cook anyways if we could see it.
The water of the shower was completely cold. we had to take very cold showers. Even if it was hot outside, we didn't want to take very cold showers.
It was very hot but there wasn't even a fan in the house. Any other hostel or flat we were at in italy had at least one fan.
The rooms just looked like never touched. everything had this dirty old feeling. The Bathroom wasn't cleaned and we couldn't use the water for anything because the outcoming water was rusty and quite dirty.
The wifi hotspot only worked at the window but the battery went empty evert 30 minutes, so we had to take it away from the window
to charge it.
The most annoying point was the noisiness. The house is located directly next to a train track and the trains ran all night long. Very Noisy! We couldn't sleep!
All in all this was the worst experience ever with airbnb! Next time we won't book anything with less than three positive reviews.
Matteo and his uncle tried the best to make our stay at their house nice!! Would definitly recom them!!
