The Space

If you want an everyday, boring apartment and minimal social interaction, you've clicked on the wrong ad. If you want to stay with fun people in a cool CLEAN house with EVERY TOY you could imagine (see list below), then read on.

I own and rent out rooms in an AMAZING HOUSE in a good, clean, quiet neighborhood south of South Pasadena, just 7 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, in the city of Alhambra. It's a huge 5 bedroom/2.5 bath 2800 square foot house, and there are 4 housemates with longer-term leases who live here with me. I (email hidden) traveling, so I rent out my room as well when I am gone.

My available room is the mater bedroom, which is FULLY FURNISHED with a pretty sweet electronics setup (see below). It is a decent size, (about 180 square feet) with a closet, and includes all utilites, housekeeper, satellite TV, internet, etc. (see below for details)

The house is huge, so you'll have plenty of living space. There are two full bathrooms upstairs, and there is a half bath downstairs for guests and convenience. The house is newly remodeled, nicely decorated, and stays EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN. We all chip in for a housekeeper who keeps the place looking good at all times.

Housekeeping, utilities and common purchases are shared between all of the housemates, but your share is included in the rental amount, so for no extra cost you get a housekeeper, top-of-the line high speed internet, HDTV enhanced satellite with HD DVRs for all of the hourse's 12 TVs, gas, all utiltiies and other shared house supplies.

There's plenty of parking in our low-density neighborhood. No smoking in the house.

-The available room is fully furnished with a dresser, desk, sweet adjustible massaging bed, nightstand, and ottoman. It has a 37" flatscreen HDTV with a DVR satellite receiver, and a media player to watch any of the thousands of movies stored on the house's media server. If you have a laptop, you can plug it into my computer setup with a 24" widescreen monitor, printer, and stereo with subwoofer. I also have a BOSE wave radio, artwork, and iphone and ipad docks, and a bottled water dispenser.

-We just finished construction of a $160,000 pool/spa/oasis in the back yard. It has a cave waterfall grotto, a zipline, a 14-foot HD theater screen, a second large rock waterfall, a beach entry with a beach fire pit (see picture), water basketball court, a raised spa with infinity edge, lighted laminar jet shooting into the basketball hoop, four deck jets, a sweet water slide, an endless pool swimming treadmill, outdoor sound system with an underwater speaker so you can hear your music under the water as well, two flat screen HDTVs by the spa (in addition to the theater screen), a BBQ island with a fridge full of beverages and marshmallows for the fire pit, a waterproof keyboard and mouse to use the computer in the spa, three gas tiki torches, a full remote control automation system (warm up the spa by remote with your iPhone), a box full of every pool toy I could think of, and much more. You gotta see this thing!

-THEATER ROOM with a TWELVE FOOT HDTV front-projected screen (separate from the pool's 14-foot screen), HDTV TiVo and cable movie channels, leather sofa and love seat and two leather cinema chairs, and a library of SEVERAL HUNDRED DVDs so that there's always something to watch!

-A 9 Terabyte Media Server full of everyone's DVDs and Blurays. All common area TVs are hooked up to stream video from the Media Server, so you can choose from hundreds, even thousands, of movies and TV shows to watch at any time. You can also watch them on your computer through the wireless network if you prefer.

-A standup authentic ARCADE machine that plays thousands of classic arcade games--every game you can think of and thousands you didn't even know existed. Includes 3 stainless steel joysticks, light guns, track ball, spinner, and video pinball setup.

-The HDTV theater screen has a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and Gamecube, each with 4 wireless controllers and all hooked up in HDTV for an amazing picture. In addition to getting unlimited games though Gamefly, we have a collection of permanent games for these systems. We also have a second Xbox 360 and Ninentdo Wii for the living room TV.

-There's a laptop for anyone to use connected to the TWELVE FOOT SCREEN so you can surf the internet with its wireless keyboard and trackpad.

-A collection of every fun game and toy you can think of (Cranium, Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Connect Four, Upwords, Scattergories, Pictionary, Guesstures, Battleship, Taboo, kites, Hulk hands, bocce balls, a croquet set, a guitar, footballs and cones (which we use to set up touch football games at the nearby park), Bop It, Bop It Extreme, tennis balls and four racquets (which we use to play tennis at the nice courts at the park across the street), a sweet set of poker chips that we use for poker nights, an impact massager, horseshoes, claw game, R/C airplane and car, even a friggin pogo stick. . . you name it, we've got it.

-Ethernet ports in every room for connection to the house's high-speed internet. . . plus wireless internet.

-Satellite TV and phone jack in each room.

-A Stand-up Tanning Bed

-A half-court of basketball with a 60" adjustable glass backboard and full lighting for nighttime play.

-A Dual-Hoop Pop-a-Shot Arcade Basketball Game with electronic scoring.

-HD TiVos for all the common TVs, and HD Tivo available in every room in the house, including yours!

-Pool Table

-Ping-Pong Table

-Lighted Tennis Courts across the street, and we have balls and four racquets

-A stainless steel barbeque grill, plus a second built-in barbeque in the back yard

-Sweet rubberized dumbbell set with workout bench.

-Arcade-style professional air hockey table (like the arcade, not the type you buy at Sears)

-12 Foot Shuffleboard Table.

-50" HDTV with DVD and surround sound watched on leather couch and love seat in the living room.

-Gas fire place in the living room.

-Bristle dart board in a nice cabinet.

-I have a toyhauler RV that we use for road trips and to take out two four-wheelers and a jet ski for wakeboarding, kneeboarding, and waterskiing. We also use it as a guest house. We have full hook-ups for it, so it has its own bathroom, shower, sinks, electricity, etc. There's also a sofabed in the theater for guests.

-A front porch swing and a really cool swinging chair in the back for relaxing after a long day.

-A well-utilized Margaritaville margarita maker.

-Built-in party lighting and disco ball int he theater.

-Contemporary furniture and decorations in all common areas

-Granite countertops, dishwasher, 2 big fridges so everyone has their own private food space, microwave, washer/dryer, cable flatscreen TV in kitchen and every other room.

-The house is across the street from a beautiful park with a newly renovated indoor basketball court, a huge field, swimming pool, a hill with a view to downtown, lighted tennis courts, baseball diamonds, kiddie toys, and picnic tables.

-House is close to Ralph's, Costco, Target, Home Depot, Kohl's, major banks, Starbucks, almost every food place, and you can walk to 7-11 and donuts on the corner. Plus there's easy access to the 10 freeway. . . just far enough from the freeway to not hear the noise.

-Bike to Cal State LA (CSLA), 15 minutes to Pasadena, 7 minutes to downtown, easy access to USC Health Sciences Campus, Pasadena, downtown Los Angeles, Los Feliz, the San Gabriel Valley, San Marino, Monterey Park, Commerce, Rosemead, Mid-Wilshire, etc.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT? Just tell me and I'll probably buy it for the house. . .I live here too so I want it to be as cool as possible.

  • Terrific place. Large master suite overlooking the pool in a safe neighborhood (tree-lined street) in Alhambra. The hot tub and pool are wonderful amenities. I didn't use the theater room as much, but would've had it been football season. Jason's very easy to communicate with. Roommates are cool, laid-back. Definitely recommend for anyone who needs to spend a spell in the Alhambra / Pasadena / San Gabriel / Rosemead / Downtown area.

  • Jason was a great host. He was very informative before my arrival making the start of my stay easy and worry free. His place is amazing. Obviously the toys are plentiful. His descriptions are accurate, the housemates were very nice, and I felt safe in the surrounding area. The cleaning service was a nice touch. The room is very private and secluded from the rest of the house. The trip to the airport and downtown were easy also. I would give my stay a 10 out of 10 and would highly recommend his place. Thanks Jason!

  • This is a great place! Great location! the accommodations were excellent with wifi, Direct TV, patio, views over the pool, big bathroom, clean, maid service and a very comfortable bed. It is next to a very nice park with freeway access close by. I couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Definitely will contact Jason again for another stay!

  • Jason's place was as advertised and there were plenty of fun people in the house. Jason's upgraded his room and hasn't had time to sort out all of the toys just yet, but I am sure it will match the rest of the house once he has an opportunity. Although I had to drop the sheets in the wash machine to sort out some dog-hair issues, the room was huge and adjustable bed was great; I would return.

  • We stayed in Jason's master suite for a few nights, and really enjoyed it. The room was spacious, had a great shower, and was very comfortable for sleeping. The amenities in the house are amazing- everything from the pool/ hot tub to the theatre and games. The house is definitely lively with lots of people in it, so if you are looking for a quiet retreat, this might not be right for you. But all the roommates are super-cool and helpful when needed. Parking is also a little tricky with all the people in the house, so I would recommend printing out an overnight parking pass from the local police station or online. Overall, the accommodations were nice, it was a good value, and although I did not get to meet Jason, he was a great virtual host and always readily available with speedy communication. Thank you!

USC Undergrad and USC Law (Class of 2003)
Retired Attorney
I went to USC for undergrad and law school (class of 2003), and I worked as an attorney at a law firm in downtown LA for many years. For the past 10 years, I have had a great time and made a lot of great friends by renting out the spare bedrooms in my 5-bedroom house. This arrangenment gave me a crazy incentive to add as many cool toys to my house as possible, since the more toys I bought for the house, the more rent I got, and the toys all paid for themselves. As you can see, the toys in the house have gotten progressively more ridiculous over these past 10 years. Right now I am taking some time off, and I do a LOT of traveling. I figured since I'm already renting out the rest of the rooms in my house and everyone loves it, why not rent out my room as well while I'm gone and let some more people enjoy our unique little home full of toys. :)
