The Lohi now features A KING SIZED BED WITH PILLOW TOP.
Enter from our garden courtyard, and hear the sound of running water from the stone pond beside the entryway. There is plenty of ambience and a feeling of 'sanctuary' here. This apartment is something a little exotic for your visit to Hilo. Charming architectural features include stone and teracotta tile floors, a timber wall and wooden beams.
'Lohi' is the Hawaiian name for the wetland taro that grows in clear running water. This apartment was formerly a 'Poi factory' where the staple taro vegetable was processed and was a much loved icon for Hilo locals for several generations and since the 1980's it was converted to a clothing store where two leading Hawaiian designers got their start. ..Fast forward to 'now' and you will find this is a self contained apartment with a bedroom, a sun room, private bathroom and outdoor shower area. A ceiling fan helps to cool the bedroom and due to the helpful suggestions of our guests we have added extra privacy by hanging a curtain on the rear door.
There's no kitchen here but there is a mini fridge and a tea & coffee station. This may work for travelers who don't plan on spending vacation time cooking. Once you step out onto the street, there are plenty of great restaurant choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner within one or two blocks of The Lohi.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TO THE TOTAL COST PER NIGHT GUESTS ADD 13.466% TAX WHICH IS PAYABLE UPON ARRIVAL. This apartment is part of a complex of several old homes which have been refurbished and restored and is called 'The Lotus Garden.' On the property is a two bedroom guest cottage called 'The Sugar Shack' and a three bedroom vacation home called 'The Lotus.' Both of these homes are listed with airbnb.com. Our guests continue to let us know that our central location makes their stay with us easy and convenient.
You can enjoy the convenience of being in the same block as some great budget cafes and restaurants as well as grocery stores and the Farmer's Market.
Travelers on a budget could do without a car here if it's a slow paced vacation they are looking for..Most visitors do hire a car however just so that they can see more of the remote spots on the island. If you are looking for an alternative to the major rental companies, just ask us for a recommendation for someone renting cars .. and thanks for stopping by and reviewing this listing. We hope this is a wonderful vacation for you.
Very beautiful apartment in the heart of Hilo. The outdoor shower is amazing and so are Megan and Jasper. They are very warm and friendly and had many tips what to do and what was going on arround Hilo. We would definitely go again and can recommend to everyone!
I loved our room at the lotus garden ! It was so perfect ! It was Beautiful inside and out with tons of orchids every where you look . The room was very clean and comfortable and Megan was so kind and helpful. Plus you are right down town walking distance to restaurants and beautiful parks . I would absolutely re commend staying at the lotus garden ! You won't be disappointed !
Loved staying at Megan's and Jasper's Lohi apartment. The outdoor shower was the highlight! I looked forward to having a shower each day we stayed. The apartment was clean, comfortable and cool. Definetely the best accommodation we stayed at in Hawaii. Even though the apartment was on a main road the area was quiet at night. Convenient location as everything was in walking distance. I would stay there again and recommend the apartment to others. Jasper and Megan were very friendly and accomodating as well.
The apartment is a great place to stay. It is a big room, nicely furnished in a house with your own entrance which invites to spend your holidays at this place. The outdoor shower itself is worth returning a fantastic experience.
The accomodation is perfectly located close to all restaurants and shops in Hilo.
Megan was really helpful and lovely to chat to.
Megan was great. The apartment is beautiful. She was very flexible to our arrival and departure times, and was very friendly. The apartment is right downtown, with easy walking access to shops/restaurants. Great price for the area. Highly recommend!
Nice, clean apartment in downtown Hilo with a lot of restaurants around the corner. The apartment has a nice atmosphere.
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at The Lohi Apartment. There was initially some confusion during the booking process but Megan was very responsive and accommodating and we were able to work out our reservation within a couple days of the initial booking. The room was spacious and comfortable and the outdoor shower is something special. The location can't be beat if you are looking to stay in downtown Hilo. Jasper provided some great dining and beach recommendations. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend The Lohi Apartment to anyone visiting Hilo.
A nice place in the big city. The location is right downtown, so you need just park and enjoy the restaurants and sights of downtown Hilo. The apartment itself is very nice and clean and the outdoor shower, though a little unusual, was quirky and fun (and plenty warm). There were a few mosquitoes in the apartment at night, but once we turned the fan on, that took care of them.
This apartment in Hilo was a great hidden gem. Hilo is much smaller than Kona but this apartment is in a great location. The manager of the apartment was nice and provided great advice on nearby places to eat and go out to. The apartment itself was clean, spacious and everything felt new. While the front entrance was a main street in downtown Hilo, the back of the apartment opened into a secluded, green courtyard. We got a great night's sleep, even though we were there on a Friday night and there was no "city noise" to keep us up, just a few song birds.
The room was beautiful and comfortable. Has a separate vestibule area with two chairs and overlooks the main road. The bed was spacious for two and was not too soft.
We arrived early and were greeted warmly and allowed inside to put our stuff down. The outdoor shower was pretty cool and had little loose polished rocks instead of tiling. Be sure to bring your own toiletries as soap and shampoo are not provided.
The room was close to everything downtown and even closer to the farmers market. The fresh flowers in the room were a nice touch. Will gladly stay again next time in Hilo!
