The Space

The flat is situated in a quiet and absolutely safe residential area near the historical centre and two minutes walk from Tavros-E.Venizelou metro station (green line)-just two stops from Thision station (to visit Acropolis monument). It is a one bedroom/living room flat with a separate fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom (shower) hidden in a traditional Athenian courtyard (a rare sight in the centre nowadays). The entire place was fully renovated in May-June 2013 exclusively for vacation rentals in the “Greek island” fashion with blue and white being the dominating colors. Its decoration combines the old with the new and is completed with the double bed, the sofa and the cupboard which were actually built in the flat following the old island tradition.
But what this place should really boast for is the courtyard itself -a small oasis with various trees and plants including lemon trees, an avocado, a magnolia and a huge oleander with white flowers. The adjacent courtyards of the next door neighbors just reinforce the illusion that you’re relaxing on some distant island of the Aegean Sea (photos speak for themselves).
After finishing the...advertising I think you should know that my husband, who had the flat renovated and helps me to take care of the guests, is a travel journalist. For 20 years this flat used to be his private shelter where he could work in peace away from the city noise (and then the crisis came – end of the story!) Anyway having been professional travelers and guests in hundreds of private flats and hotel rooms all over the world I believe we have gained the experience to know what makes a visitor in a big city happy. At least we hope. You`ll tell us......

A peaceful and absolutely safe area mostly inhabited by families who have lived there for many decades. The street where the flat stands is quiet, tree-lined and very well lit leading to the Tavros-E.Venizelou metro station (less than two minutes walk).
The flat is not really IN the historical centre (Acropolis 3km) but the nearby metro station is on the green line - just two stops to THISION (Acropolis monument), three stops to MONASTIRAKI, three stops to PHALIRON (from where in 10-15min by tram you reach the BEACHES) and five stops to the port of PIRAEUS.
In a radius of 300-400 meters there are various shops for your everyday needs including 5 supermarkets, 4 delicatessen shops with special products from all over Greece, pharmacies, bakeries, grocery and butcher shops and tavernas. Apart from that, Kallithea district is close enough (Kalithea metro station is 4-5 min walk) which is one of the biggest commercial districts of the city (unknown to most tourists) with a charming “old time” park (for the Athenian standards), a traditional closed fish-meat-vegetable market, a big crowded square with all the necessary cafés and bars and busy streets dense with shops selling clothes, electronic and household goods etc at low prices

  • We had an absolutely wonderful four night stay in Athens largely because of our wonderful hosts and their charming apartment! Pantelis met us at the Tavros metro stop which is very easy to get to from the airport. The apartment is exactly as pictured, and is stocked with everything you could need for your stay. Pantelis and Grigoria go above and beyond for their guests. In addition to showing us around the area upon arrival and giving us suggestions for how to spend our time most effectively, Pantelis took us to an expansive farmers market as well as a fish and meat market. We were also provided with a cell phone, and our hosts checked in on us to make sure everything was going smoothly. We had an amazing Athens experience, and hope to make it back one day!

  • If you are considering travelling to Athens, do it, and book with Grigoria and Pantelis. I guarantee you will not regret it. It has been our favourite accommodation so far without question.
Firstly, the flat. Pantelis met us at the metro station (which connects you to central Athens, the port and airport) and it was a 2-minute walk along the same street to the apartment. It was clean and totally beautiful, and full of everything we needed. A proper kitchen and bathroom (with a shower head that attaches to the wall, which is unusual in Greece), a large bedroom with plenty of storage space, tv, ceiling fan, etc. The courtyard is gorgeous and we loved eating breakfast out there every morning, and reading in the hammock. There's a washing machine and washing line, and Pantelis brought around big tomatoes, olives and simits to add to the milk, olive oil, tea and coffee etc. already provided. It was a haven in the middle of Athens.
Better still, as per all previous reviews, are Pantelis and Grigoria. These two are everything that is good about Airbnb- you get to meet and interact with these two lovely locals, and touch on a slice of local life. Pantelis was like getting a host and tour guide in one. He showed us around the neighbourhood on the first day, and told us what food was good. He took us to the farmer's markets one morning, and told us about all kinds of local and traditional things there. He was around the courtyard most days and always stopped for a chat, and to offer plenty of detailed advice on things to see and do. We went out for dinner with he and the lovely Grigoria one evening, and tried all different kinds of Greek dishes which were delicious, we were up until 1am talking and drinking raki, it was a lovely evening.
Perhaps the only danger you will have here is that you won't want to leave the flat at all...

  • We have had a wonderful time in Athens. Also because of this great place and the super nice hosts Grigoria and Pantalis.
The place is pretty, cosy, quiet, clean, peaceful and very close by the metro (end of the street). Having a garden is so nice after a day of city exploration.
And than there are Grigoria and Pantalis; the best hosts you can wish for. Open, friendly, available whenever you need anything. Willing to show you nice special shops and spots. And best of all a great sense of humor. When you can share humor, you can share everyting. Thank you for being our friends.

  • We were pleased to stay at Grigoria and Pantalis'. The place is well located in a quiet environnement at 3-4 minutes by walk to the metro station which is only 2 stops from the city center.

Grigoria and Pantalis are great hosts. They take care of their place and their guests. They speak a really good english. They are really pleased to give some advices for visiting the city and around and don't hesitate to spend some time with you to make you discover the "real" Athena.

The place is confortable and the garden is really nice to take a rest between two visits.

    Response from Grigoria:

Thank you Michaelle for your review.
We `d just like to point out that Tavros metro station is less than 2min away from the flat and the 'far away" Kalithea station is 4min walk. Of course this is not a big issue but since we mention that the flat is NEXT TO METRO STATION we wouldn`t like anybody to get the impression that we are not really accurate...
Thank you again for your review. We hope your cruise after you left the flat fulfilled your expectations and we also hope we`ll see you again..

  • Where do I start? What a great stay! I am home from Athens only a few days and ... oh no ... I miss my hosts! Don't I get to take Grigoria and Pantelis back to the US with me? This apartment is very much like it appears in the photos although I guess it's a little hard to tell that there are two entries, one door to the main bedroom area with the table and chairs outside, and a second door to the kitchen with the hammock outside, and yes, that is all your space! There is one apartment to each side but they are not close, the courtyard is spacious. It was very easy to arrive by metro with luggage as the metro stations all have elevators, one easy transfer at Monastiraki to the green line, and even a ramp down to the road for luggage. The apartment is far enough from the metro for quiet but a quick easy walk. I felt safe traveling alone, no need for a taxi. The neighborhood is ideal because you are just outside of the busy traffic of Athens in a quiet residential area, yet only two stops from Ancient Athens, the Thissio station on the same green line. Since each station in town is an easy walk from one to the next you can see you are just minutes to your destination. It is also a fast trip on the same green line to Piraeus where the ferries depart at gate E8. I imagine the apartment has everything you could need on vacation, and is stocked with a lot of nice detail items. Pantelis even gave me a cell phone! Wow! And then he called to check in to see if I was getting along okay! There were just one or two mosquitos that buzzed at night (it's nice to have the windows open), and I am allergic to repellants, so Pantelis went and found an electric plug in repellant that was completely effective with no poisons. The bed is comfortable and there is a place to stash bags so I was able to unpack and be comfortable. I even cooked in the kitchen. My hosts brought me to the markets and bought big fresh Greek fish and brought them over one night to grill. It was great cooking and great company! I will advise that the clothes washing machine and the phone are in Greek, so you might need help to learn how to operate them if you want to do anything special like answer the phone! Pantelis and Grigoria speak perfect English and they are warm people who will really look after you! Grigoria took me to a patio restarant when I arrived from a long flight. Pantelis has many idea where to go outside of Athens but don't miss Ancient Athens as you can spend a full week easily and it's right outside your door. I stayed in May and I loved everything about Athens especially my...

  • The flat was lovely and we had really a great time during our stay there. Grigoria and Pentelis were great hosts, among the kindest we have ever met. They will give you some piece of advice very useful about the city and its restaurants. The flat is in a very quiet neighborhood, near to the metro, and it is also convenient to go to the beaches. We thanks them a lot. Satisfaction guaranteed !!

  • What a beautiful way to experience Athens. Perfectly located - 100m to the train station which takes you to anywhere important within 10 minutes. The place itself is gorgeous; the courtyard being the icing on the cake.

And we're not the first to say it and definitely won't be the last; the best thing about this accomodation? The hosts.

The house was stocked with necessities and Pantelis even went to the shop to buy us fresh bread and milk! Not to mention that he picked us up from the port to make our trip that much easier.

But best of all, they took us out one night to allow us the chance to truly experience Athens like a local. The hospitality was beyond what you could wish for - a truly nice place to stay and feel like you were wanted there.

    Thank you!!

  • The travel joutnalist-centre is a very nice location in Athens, and the garden is very cosy. There is a lemon tree that you can pick lemons from to make your own lemonade etc.
Grigoria and Pentalis are very helpful and will check and double check if you need anything.

    Good location
    reliable wifi
Private garden (shared with one apartment)
    Good shower
    Good bed

  • Grigoria and Pentalis were great hosts - they took care of everything, had a lot of valuable tips for (including a recepie for octopus bbq) and even took us out to a 'real' local's tavern one night.
The apartment was also great - clean and neat with just everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Especially the garden is heavenly.
We would definitely come back to relax in their sweet place again!
The location is great as well - its a quite back street but the metro is a few minutes away and takes you to all the attractions in ten minutes only.

Hallo fellow travellers My name is Grigoria and I grew up in the house where the flat belongs. As a matter of fact my mother still lives on the 1st floor and my sister on the 2nd. I am an Aromatherapist but in the last 15 years I`ve spent most of my time travelling abroad with my husband Pantelis and our four-legged …son Sotos (you can see the latter in the photo taken in Feldkirch, Austria). Pantelis is a travel journalist having had numerous articles published about places all over the world as well as two books “Travelling around Europe by car Vol 1&2”. The flat used to be his beloved shelter where he wrote for hours and hours taking advantage of the tranquility of the place but now due to the crisis we are stuck in Athens and we decided to offer the flat to other travelers (the renovation finished in June 2013). We are easy going persons and needless to say we love animals and travelling around. My husband`s job is a guarantee that we know our guests` expectations and how to fulfill them.
