Because I live in San Francisco, I will have little or no interaction with guests. I am reachable via (website hidden) and phone. Also, I have a local neighborhood resident managing and cleaning the property if guests have any issues or questions.
- well-behaved pets are fine. [we have a chocolate lab] Owners simply need to be responsible for any damage.

- please make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving (through garage door).
- please make sure hot water is turned off upon leaving [top green switch in garage electrical panel].
- SUP (stand-up paddle board) in garage is NOT for guest use.
This place was okay but there were a few things I was disappointed in: First, the map on the listing shows it is a block off the main highway on the lake side but in fact it is on Hwy 89 on the opposite side as the lake. Second, it appeared that cleaners came to hit the normal spots like sinks, toilets, carpet, etc. but there were many places that needed serious cleaning an attention like dirt on the front porch, wires and cords hanging down next to the front door, ash and debris all over the living room fireplace (which was completely full of ashes) hearth, bbq ashes all over the back deck and around two very dirty bbq's- there was also a pile of used charcoal and ash right in the middle of the backyard as you step off the [broken] stairs from the deck to the dirt. Also, there was a note about what to do when leaving but not arriving- I had to figure out on my own that the breaker was switched off for the water heater. The garage was a mess with dirt and firewood debris all over the floor- a broken pingpong table, random beach accessories strewn about on the dirty floor and a lawnmower with a puddle of something coming out from underneath it. Outside the garage was a trailer of junk right next to the driveway (the neighbor's). Furthermore, the garage door would not close the last two days we were there so I had to dis-engagege it, manually put it down and re-engage it to get it to close.
Now, I am not high-maintenance nor is my wife- but having to clean out the fireplace to use it, having to troubleshoot to get hot water, having to deal with a broken garage door is not my idea of a relaxing getaway.
We were looking for a classic Tahoe style log cabin, close to the beach, to show the beauty of Tahoe and it's history to some visitors from Asia. This house perfectly fit that bill. A little more attention to having matches or working lighters would have helped to enjoy the fireplaces the first night, but otherwise it was enjoyable.
Herb's place was perfect for our group! The cabin is very beautiful and well stocked. The only thing I was surprised about (with a little research on my part I would have known) was that the cabin is right on a pretty major road. If you are looking for a more secluded place, I'd pass on this cabin. Having said that, it didn't bother us at all because it meant we were right by the lake! We had a great time!
We had an amazing weekend at Lake Tahoe while staying at Tahoe Pines Log cabin. Herb Stephens was a very nice and understanding host. The house was very pleasant - a bit cold though, but fireplaces and woodstove warmed it up - and both the hot tub and barbecue were awesome. Thanks a lot!
The house was great! Just as advertised. The house was quite cold the whole time we were there though -- not a huge deal just something to note. Also, no light in the garage and very dim light on the back porch. Otherwise it was just wonderful.
Fantastic house! The location was wonderful; we were a short walk from the lake, and not too far from grocery stores. Skiing was very accessible as well.
The house was perfect. The furniture was beautiful, and accommodated all of us well. The beds were very comfortable! The kitchen was fully stocked with great appliances, plates, utensils-everything. Everything felt very clean and fresh.
We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
About the Host, Herb
I have lived and worked all over the world .. (and still work internationally) but have called San Francisco home since 1992. (so happy to show anyone around the City!)
I work in internet/software.
I have two daughters: one 13 yrs old (8th grade) and one 22 yrs old (4th yr at Stanford).
I am an avid athlete .. mainly in the mountains: snowboarding, skiing, mtn biking, climbing. (so I know all of the great runs, trails, climbs in Tahoe!)
I love to cook .. so our cabin has a very well equipped kitchen. (great pots/pans, knives, appliances, etc.)
I grew up in a family that owned/operated hotels and apartments .. so: 1) I know how to fix things .. and 2) I appreciate great beds! While most place in Tahoe receive 'leftover' secondhand furniture, I had all of the beds custom-made by the same manufacturer and specs as the Four Seasons hotel chain. (we all spend about one-third of our lives in bed .. so it better be comfortable!) Guaranteed: you will love the beds. ;-)
