Santa Teresa is known to be a neighborhood of artists and intelectuals, with a very rich and peculiar cultural life and very interesting place to go just walking, as Parque das Ruinas and Museo Castro Maya. For those who really like to walk, it' possible get Corcovado step by step (aproximately 1hour and half), in a amazing journey.
It's very easy to access to public transportation from the house: the bus stop is just 2min and the metro 10min walking.
As we have a backyard with a very nice garden, smoking is permitted only in outside areas. If you want to invite someone to get in, you must remember that visits are possible only with an advance request. In case of any doubt, just ask someone of the house to help you. You'll be always well come.
We had a lovely 6 nights at Beatriz's home. The suite is very private and spacious, and the secure back yard was wonderful for our active toddler to play in. The home and hosts are very child-friendly - and so was their dog (which they kept in a separate fenced area so we never had to worry, even though he wasn't a jumping-up-at-kids sort of dog).
Beatriz was warm and helpful without being intrusive. She speaks good English. If she was driving somewhere that day, she would offer us a ride at breakfast. And speaking of breakfast, that was a huge highlight for us - homemade, healthy, and with slight variations each day. Yum!!
We had some trouble getting the shower water warm enough, and couldn't quite connect to the wireless internet from the side of our room that was furthest from the house. However, we encountered plumbing and wifi issues throughout our time in Brazil so I think that's just something to be aware of in Brazil in general.
If you choose Beatriz's home and have young children with you, make sure you go to the Cafe do Alto (a short walk away). The prices are reasonable and they have a table full of toys that kept our son engaged long enough for us to stay sitting down for an entire meal! :)
Thank you Beatriz for a great stay and your delicious breakfasts!
Thanks for such kind words. I'm so sorry that you had problems to getting the water shower warm and with the wifi signal. You could have told me while you were here, be sure I would have engaged all my efforts to minimize these problems. Best wishes for you and all my love, Beatriz
Bref... Nous recommandons vivement la maison de Béatriz !!
Me and two good friends really loved our stay at Beatriz' place. Beatriz is very kind and a wonderful host, the room is bright and beautiful (and even has airconditioning). The quarter (St. Theresa) is really beautiful, with lovely bars, old villas and an amazing view over the city. When you stay at beatriz place, she even prepares a super good & delicious breakfast (everything selfmade!!). 5/5, We will come back!
Excelente host, breakfast maravilhoso, lugar tranquilo em Santa Teresa. Fomos muito gentilmente acolhidos pela Beatriz. Recomendo para qualquer um que gostaria conhecer o Rio e ja se sentir logo em casa...
We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful retreat in Santa Teresa. Beatriz is a great host who shared a lot of beautiful ideas for day trips around the city with us. Through her we saw many nice places off the beaten track. The location itself is perfect. Clean, calm, but only three minutes walking from the beautiful santa teresa center. As well, the house lies perfect to get to know other areas of rio, like the center, Christo or lapa nightlife. We definitely recommend staying here. The breakfast itself is worth the stay - Beatriz makes homemade cream cheese, jam, yogurt, muffins and serves lots fresh fruit (juice) with it. Thank you again, Beatriz. We hope to be back very soon!
We would definitely recommend staying with Beatriz in her nice family’s house for several reasons. The room is very spacious, spotless, light and comfy and you can enjoy 100% privacy as it is located in a separate private wing of the house overlooking a nice courtyard. The hilly historical bairro of Santa Teresa is great and we are really happy we did not choose any other part of Rio to stay in: Even though it is considerably quiet, it disposes with a handful of good bars and restaurants; it is also very safe and you feel like you went 70–100 years back in time, it’s so beautiful. It is only a shame that its famous historical tram way is still not fixed after a massive reconstruction commenced being enforced by a 2011’s deadly accident – it was supposed to be finished by 2014 FIFA World Cup but it doesn’t look like it will be for the 2016 Olympics either… The real highlight of a stay with Beatriz is her breakfast, the best breakfast in South America for us right here (and we’ve done a lot of S. Am. before, trust us!): homemade bread, homemade yoghurt with granola, homemade butter, ham, cheese, homemade marmalades, fresh fruits, fresh fruit juice, real (non-instant) and very good coffee, etc. Beatriz and her family are also very helpful on any tourist info and advice you need, let alone supplying you with maps of Rio and the neighbourhood. They were super-helpful when we wanted to go see a football match at Maracanã, which had a kick-off about one hour upon our arrival in town and we had almost zero information but esp. Beatriz’s son Miguel made it all happen for us providing precious and exact info and navigation. Beatriz also provided us a free laundry service and our whole stay in her house felt like home. It is only a pity that it is technically not possible to use the kitchen in Beatriz’s house, which sometimes would be very useful for us because of Rio’s restaurant prices but you at least have a refrigerator in your room. Nevertheless, next time we’re in Rio, we definitely stay here again! Thank you Beatriz for your hospitality and everything! Lexa & Ondrej
Thank you for your kind words Alexandra. I really enjoyed meeting you, Ondrej and Kristina. It's really very good to cook for those who appreciate it. It's inspiring and I'm grateful for that. Hope to meet you another time. Be sure you will be allways wellcome, anytime, any place. Best wishes for all of you, with love, Beatriz
The flat was very nice, extremely well-located, very clean and fine.
Beatriz was a wonderful host and we ate there one of our best breakfasts ever. She gave us a lot of good ideas of walks in Rio and suggestions about the city
