The Space

The Hidden Cabin is privately located in the back of the property under shady trees that keep the cabin nice and cool. There is a queen bed, sink with filtered drinking water, and heater.

All of our cleaning supplies are eco friendly and natural, and our gardens are organic. We have premium beds and 100% cotton linens. We do our best to choose the healthiest and most sustainable option available.

Guest Access

Guests have shared access to wireless internet, hot tub, pool table, outdoor kitchen, 3 outdoor bathrooms, 2 outdoor showers (1 has a claw foot bathtub!). There is ample street parking, bicycles, and library/video check out. Our chickens and gardens provide fresh eggs and produce when available.

Interaction with Guests

We have a caretaker on site who can help arrange bicycles or assist with other needs. Please let us know what time you plan on arriving so we can let you in and give you a tour of the property.

The Neighborhood

The property is 2.5 miles from downtown Ojai and close to hiking/mountain biking trails, local hot springs, and local wine tasting. We are walking distance to organic restaurants, yoga classes, Aikido lessons, and bars.

Getting around

Many things are within walking distance and we do have bikes for guests to borrow. The Ojai Trolley goes from Meiners Oaks to downtown Ojai.

Other Things to Note

Meiners Oaks Retreat does not allow pets. While pets are never allowed in the house, we keep chickens and one sweet kitty lives outdoors on the property. There are dogs, cats, chickens, horses, and other animals in our neighborhood.

We generally have a 2 night minimum, but exceptions can be made, so contact us with any questions.

We have rubbish service at the street. If you have more trash than will fit inside of our trashcans, we will handle your extra rubbish for a fee of $30 per trash can (32 gallon size). All rubbish must be sorted.

See "Meiners Oaks Retreat" on the internet for more pics and info. Please note, all reservations must be booked through airbnb.

In an effort to make the place the best retreat possible, it is currently going through some renovations. There are some renovation materials still on site. We make every effort to work around bookings to keep the place as comfortable and quiet as possible for our guests.

  • Absolutely lovely! The retreat is, simply put, a work of art. Getting to experience the genius and design skills of individuals is the main reason I opted for Airbnb over a traditional hotel room. Mark's propertry did not disappoint. Sara, the caretaker, is extremely sweet and helpful. We stayed in the hidden cabin and had a wonderful time. We spent are two days in Ojai exploring the town and hiking, but we could have just as easily spent that time lounging around the common areas of the property- including the hot tub, the outdoor kitchen, and the outdoor gaming area with a pool table. Everything inside the fences (and even the beautiful weldwork fences themselves!) tell a story about the inhabitants. If you're going to stay in the Ojai area, I cannot recommend staying with Mark and Sara highly enough- I certainly would again.

As a bonus there is a bar right around the corner (literally right around the corner) and another down the street, the Deer Lodge and The Hut respectively. But you'd never know it unless you actually wanted to go there. It made for a great way to unwind after most of the other places in town closed at 5:30pm.

Thank you for being such a great hostess, Sara!

  • For my first ever solo vacation, I took myself to Ojai and chose to stay at Meiners Oaks retreat. And it WAS A Treat.

Mark is magical. He has set his land up to be truly a retreat and a rejuvenating, whimsical haven. Claire who greeted me upon my arrival, was warm, generous, and happy to share about Ojai and all of its glory…from where to take the most lovely Yoga classes, to where to catch the best food, music, and hiking.

I loved my cabin. Cozy, and comfortable. Loved my lovely clucking chicken neighbors (their pen is right next to Hidden Cabin). Loved the assortment of books on the property. LOVED the outdoor bath and the chalkboard walled bathroom and the hammocks. I stayed two glorious nights…and will stay longer next time I check in.

Highly recommend Meiners Oaks. What a joy.

  • I appreciate Mark's hospitality. The place was clean and he even gave me some local honey for a cough I had at the time..
It was nice to have my own space to come home to.
It was a little loud on weekend nights.

  • We rented this wonderful place for our wedding party and it worked out perfectly. The space was very comfortable for the 9 of us with plenty of areas for us to congregate inside and out. The grounds are eclectic and rustic with lots of personal charm which was right for us and everyone felt at home. The facilities are a nice blend of usefulness (like the big vintage Wedgewood stove) to just plain fun (outside showers are delightful in the warm summer weather). The beds were comfortable but you might want to bring your own pillows. There were numerous interesting aspects to the property to keep everyone entertained and a nice vintage upright piano for the musicians in the group. Magda (the property manager) was very helpful. We plan on staying here again.

  • My better half and I stayed a night here for my birthday. I had fallen in love with Meiners Oaks a few weeks prior and wanted to share the experience with him. The retreat really captured the ambiance of the town and I couldn't imagine a better place to stay. We were welcomed by Magda at 3 on the nose. She was warm and accommodated us graciously despite a mistake made on my part. There is a friendly kitty that lives there with a handful of courteous chickens. I took a shower in the outdoors and it was really heavenly, I'd like one of my own now. The bathrooms and bedrooms were really clean and comfortable - we slept like champs! The yard offers plenty of spots to hang out and relax with plenty of visual stimulation. You can walk or ride bikes to anywhere in town from their place. I definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again sometime soon.

  • This place is pure magic! Best sleep I've had in months! The bed was cozy, great location, beautiful grounds, and the outdoor bathtub cannot be beat! Good energy to boot. The only thing that would have made the Eco cottage more awesome would be a mini fridge and/or hot plate, but the electric tea kettle did the trick and there is a fridge on site. There are some very special details (bikes available, a beautiful garden, subtle lighting, hammock) that add to the charm. I plan on retuning. Often.

  • This little studio was perfect - nestled in the back of the bungalows so it was very peaceful and quiet. We used the hot tub and outdoor bath, which were both lovely. Magda, the caretaker, was so friendly and directed us to a wonderful local breakfast place called Farmer and the Cook -- all organic with the BEST smoothies.

The chickens were nice but a little loud in the morning, wasn't really a big deal - just an old fashion alarm clock. Overall, we were happy and really enjoyed our stay.

  • Best sleeps ever!! Cosy little spot with a real community sensibility to it. Didn't see Mark but local caretaker(s) were super nice and fun to chat with. The chicken is cool. Amazing how many people like to talk to the chicken. The shower is outdoors so I waited till I'd gone hiking and later in the day to step in. All good. It is a bit pricey for what you get but definitely was worth it for me.
