The Space

Lovely room with private bath and private entrance in daylight basement of 1906 vintage home. Room includes service for hot beverages and a small refrigerator. Access to private yard and front porch.

Nearby are New Seasons and Fred Meyer for groceries, restaurants, cafes, bookstores, pubs, second hand stores, boutiques, etc. Experience our famous NW brews, delicious coffee, ethnic food for every taste, bakeries, and more. Great walking and bike-riding neighborhood. Secure bike storage available.

No smoking indoors, please, but areas available outside. We have a cat and dog, both very friendly and non-intrusive. But, please don't bring yours.

If you need transportation from PDX International Airport, the classic Union Station (railroad), or the Greyhound Bus Station downtown, we can usually arrange that for a fee in keeping with the going cab rates (depending upon hours). Or, check out the Tri-Met website for all bus/light rail maps and routes.

  • Laurie was lovely. The neighborhood was great and within walking distance of great neighborhood stuff. I got in a car accident my last day and Laurie was very accommodating. Shower was the smallest I've ever been in, but otherwise no complaints.

  • We had a great time in Portland. The room is nice, you have your own bathroom and a private entrance. The location is great for visiting the city! A bus stop (the bus takes you to downtown Portland very fast) is a 5 min walk away on Hawthorne, a nice street with lots of shops, bars and restaurants.

  • My mom was fortunate to enjoy Tom's Casa Laurita this summer when she was in town visiting me. Each night I dropped her off (she stayed 4 nights) she would "ooh and ahh" over the precious front yard and decorative path to her private enterance.

Tom called the day before my mom arrived and was full of helpful information! He wasn't able to be there for check in (which was fine) because he provided us with detailed instructions.

The inside was very clean and tidy with wifi and lots of Portland literature.

The neighborhood was beautiful! Lots of fruit and flowers on the walks around the blocks in the evening time.

    You can't beat the location!

Per my mama, she would happily stay here in the future!

    Thanks guys!!

  • We had a great time here - the house is perfectly situated in a leafy neighbourhood with a host of great restaurants and bars and only a short bus ride downtown. Tom and Laurie were very welcoming and generous hosts, and together with their other friends we met made sure of a really friendly and laid back feel in the house. Would definitely recommend.

  • We were greeted upon arrival and informed of a slight key issue - easy to work with. We talked about some possible things to do with our time and Tom was very helpful with suggestions and brochures. The place was great, clean, and private. Also in a great neighborhood and very close to Hawthorne place!

  • Casa Laurita was the perfect spot for us to stay while we explored Portland. Tom was great and gave us all the info we needed over the phone when we arrived. It was nice to have a quiet and private place to come home to after a busy day. The neighborhood is absolutely beautiful and one of the highlights was walking through them to get coffee in the morning and at night on our way back to the house. The area couldn't be better and we got around great on public transportation the entire time. Thanks Tom!

  • Wow! This was our first airbnb experience and Tom set the bar so, very high! First, it's close to many different bus lines, so we had no problem hoofing it to the place, where Tom was waiting for us outside. It's a beyond gorgeous neighborhood and the Casa Laurita stands out with it's beautiful, purple facade. The private entrance was a nice touch and Tom was kind enough to "move us in" and give us some tips on where to go in the area. We followed his suggestion and had a wonderful time. After that, we were free to come and go as we pleased and we found the house to be a perfect launching point for dozens of adventures on foot and by bus.

We fell in love with Portland. We fell in love with the neighborhood. And, because of all the great people we met like Tom, we fell in love with the community as well. Thanks, Casa Laurita, for providing us a wonderful stay!

    Response from Laurie:

As you said, "Wow!" I am touched and humbled by your kind words, Robin. Your praise makes this all worthwhile. And I do hope you will come back and find a home in The Rose City someday...

  • Tom's place was exactly what I needed - comfortable bed, reading light, hot water. Everything was neat and clean and there was plenty of literature for exploring Portland. Thanks!

  • Tom's Casa Laurita might just be the best place to stay in Portland. It is walking distance to Hawthorne and Division Streets, both of which have amazing places to eat and shop. The bus that runs down Hawthrone crosses into downtown, where you can take the MAX lines to anywhere in the city. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful with beautiful houses for miles. The room itself is extremely comfortable and the bed was large enough to fit my boyfriend and I. We stayed there for a couple of nights and slept wonderfully. We also really liked that we had our own bathroom, and most importantly, our own entrance. We would hate to have to disturb someone after coming "home" late from one of Portland's many bars and restaurants. The room had lots of brochures for things to do around Portland and informative bus maps. Tom was very inviting and took time out of his day to greet us and tell us a little bit about the things to see in Portland. We ended up going to Back Stage bar on his recommendation. Cool place! Thanks Tom! I highly recommend staying at Casa Laurita!!

  • Casa Laurita is wonderfully located with lots of unique shops, brewpubs, quality food, and craft coffee all within walking distance - the pamphlets and magazines collected in the room proved useful for planning a walking route to many of these. Don't worry about ordering too much at a restaurant either because there is a little fridge in the room to keep leftovers cool. And for fellow road trippers: parking on the street out front was no problem at all.

Although we unfortunately did not get to meet Tom on our short stay, communication over e-mail was quick and clear so we were able to get set up ourselves with no problems.
