Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Villa dei Fiori’s wisteria and wildflowers are in glorious bloom due to recent rain. Find pure air and wildlife on a romantic escape, 20 acres on the Joshua Tree Park with 5 terraces and pergolas laden with wisteria accessible through 13 French doors. Hike from the house directly into the Joshua Tree National Park. Bighorn sheep are often observed on the boulders over the house. Bring your binoculars.

The space
The house is sterilized each time with chlorine sodium hypochlorite solution. The cave has soft sand and a fire pit. Pet fee, $100 for one, $150 for 2. Arrival time during COVID19, is 5 PM to allow for more sanitary preparation. Our flowers are in bloom--- aroma therapy and silence. You are on the Joshua Tree Park boundary in a garden created by a Hollywood production designer who was one of the designers of the pirate ship on "The Goonies," and sets for the original 3 hour pilot of "Battlestar Galatica." The house features paintings by a Parisian artist, Michele Quence. There is a library on art, architecture, film, automobiles, fashion, history, gardens, and literature. We like 4 to 6 guests, but since we've had requests for 10, we oblige, but like to discuss sleeping arrangements to be sure you'll be delighted with Villa dei Fiori for its serene ambience, heavenly scent, cavern, pool, and towering boulders. We send a rental agreement that may have revised rules and procedures that are not on the airbnb site. If any questions about arrival time or other details, please contact the owner directly before booking.

Guest access
All areas of the property are available to the guests. During the orientation tour I explain heating, cooling, trash pickup, cooking ware, sleeper sofa, extra bedding and pillows, location of spare propane and best hikes into the park from the house. Nothing is missed, and you may ask as many questions as you like.

Other things to note
For groups over four to six guests, a security deposit is required for use of the spa. For groups larger than six, the spa may not be available. There are no restrictions on 10 to 12 guests using the pool. Guests must shower before using the spa, removing any body lotion or suntan lotion that will pollute the filtration system and require the spa maintenance man to make a special trip to clean the spa filters.
Pool and spa are for private use of contracted guests only. Mid-April and early May to late September are the months ideal for swimming. Guest will lock the pool gate upon departure to ensure that children do not have access. By county regulation, dogs are not allowed in the pool area. Only the number of guests designated in our Villa Rental Agreement will be allowed to stay at the villa. Permission and fees for larger social events must be secured from the owner. Sound in the quiet desert can reach neighbors one quarter to one half-mile away. You are coming to a wilderness area, immediately on the National Park. You will need to keep the doors closed after twilight because nocturnal desert animals, kangaroo rats, and reptiles can enter the house. By signing our waiver, you acknowledge that you are responsible for keeping the house door closed at night. There are bees in the rose garden and occasionally at the swimming pool. There are rodents, spiders, ants, scorpions, kangaroo rats, reptiles, rattlesnakes, Big Horn sheep, and a bobcat in the area and you must take necessary precautions. No rental money will be refunded for encounters and problems with wildlife. There is no refund due to bad weather, mice, rats, or lizards entering the house, or for cancellation, late arrival, or early departure.
During spring, summer, and fall, when walking in the park or in the garden, one should watch the ground to avoid snakes. It is quite rare to see one, and most are harmless constrictors and beautiful to behold. One should not go barefoot outside the house because of thorns in the ground. Children should not remove stones that are placed around the property which protect the irrigation emitters. If a stone is removed, it is easy to trip and break the irrigation so that when the water is automatically turned on ll the water escapes at that one point and no other plants receive any water. The sculpted sand berms should not be walked upon as they have to be carefully raked to preserve their beauty, especially the sand berm at the pool. You are essentially renting a magnificent garden that should be respected and appreciated for its beauty throughout the changing seasons. The owner has maintenance specialists on call for any problem. If a problem arises, the guests should immediately call 323 287 6528.

You will notice in our photos, how abundant wildlife is on the border of the park. While sightings of bobcats and Bighorn sheep they do happen. A visitor from Minneapolis recently spotted the young bobcat released by the Humane Society Wildlife Center, sitting on a boulder right by the pool.
Children will love the many varieties of lizards and the Chuckawalla iguanas. In summer, sometimes numerous bats fly elaborate patterns over the pool at twilight which is a sight to behold.

I am a writer working on a novel, Celine on Fire, set in Paris, 1955 to 1962, a love story between an Italian-American jazz trumpet player and two sisters, one a professor of philosophy and history at the Sorbonne University and the other, a dancer. The many characters in Celine on Fire, confront the issues of the time---the Algerian war and the brutal results of colonialism throughout the 20th century leading to war and genocide. Set in the jazz and dance clubs in 50s Paris, it has many moments reminding one of "American in Paris", Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dance scenes. I am the director of "Death of the Red Planet." A Hollywood art director for 30 years, I designed for 'Battlestar Galactica, and was one of the designers of the pirate ship and caves for "The Goonies," and music videos for Cyndi Lauper and others. After retiring early from the film business, I live on 5 acres of garden in Joshua Tree, where I write and tend to 5 acres of garden, one mile distant from Villa dei Fiori.
