Stay in a fabulous renovated 1889 Victorian (on one of Boston Magazine's 10 Most Beautiful Streets in Boston). The house is filled with stunning antiques and you have access to a great billiard room and a cozy library just outside your guest room.
We offer free parking and a short walk to the Red Line, which takes you directly to the Boston Common, the best shopping, and Cambridge, Harvard and MIT. Also, just a few stops from the JFK Library and South Station/Amtrak and Logan Airport.
Live in a mansion for half of what a small hotel room costs. It's grand, but not stuffy! We love having guests and meeting people from all over. I'm a native New Yorker, but I think Boston is the best place in the world to live. I love helping you customize your time here to suit your interests.
Free off-street parking means you can leave your car and hop on the subway just down the block! The whole house has high speed internet. I do not charge guests an additional cleaning fee.
This guest room is a spacious single with a window seat and a desk. (See my other listings for a double with a full-size bed and coal-burning fireplace, and a double room with a queen-size bed.) Adjacent to the guest rooms is a comfy library loft. There is also a fabulous billiard room with a pub table and chairs for lounging.
We have 2 1/2 baths. A beautiful full renovation was just completed in the upstairs bathroom. The lovely upstairs half-bath is for guests exclusively. Guests may also use the beautifully renovated downstairs full-bath. Spa robes are available for use. Please note that I never book all three rooms at once; you will never share a bath with more than another couple of people.
This is a gay-friendly, progressive, vegan home. Breakfast of muffins, bagels or other home-baked goods, seasonal fruit and fair-trade Guatemalan coffee is served.
Please read "House Rules" before you make or request a reservation. Two friendly dogs call this home; if you dislike or fear dogs, this is probably not the place for you.
I had a lovely stay with Andrea and Mark. Andrea is an exceptional hosts - very chatty and attentive to my needs but in no way intrusive. She noticed I was feeling a little cold and took the trouble to turn up the heating in my room. I really enjoyed our chats over breakfast - and the friendly dogs!
Beautiful home and just a lovely house in which to stay. Andrea and her family were exceptionally open and generous with inviting me into their private living room to watch the big game on TV with them. The shared bathroom was really clean and there was a second powder room so no waiting. Just be aware that there is no provision for storing your own food stuffs. Also your morning coffee is served with almond milk. There are no animal products served at all. The T train is less than 5 min walk away. Very handy.
Andrea is a wonderful host who not ony has a lot of ideas concerning what to do or where to go in Boston but is also ready to help her guests in very practical ways (keeping luggage after check-out etc. ). She and her husband Mark are very kind and sophisticated people. They care for beautifully furnished interiors and want you to feel at home with them.
Staying with Andrea and Mark was a truly great American experience. They were open, welcoming and friendly and made my stay as easy as could be as well as enjoying great conversations with them. Their vibrancy and great energy was refreshing. Their home is beautiful and accessible, capturing both the grandeur of the house and the good qualities of a home.
I really enjoyed meeting Andrea and Mark. They both think out of the box and their gorgeous, newly renovated home reflects two people who give priority to aesthetics and design combined with a respect for and knowledge of the history of their surroundings.
I am a very light sleeper and I did have a bit of a problem with the late-night traffic on Melville ave which was clearly beyond Andrea and Mark's control. Most importantly, we found a solution and I slept blissfully on a large window seat in a room facing the backyard. There is a bedroom which faces the backyard (unfortunately taken when I visited) and light sleepers may be well-advised to request this room.
I had a wonderful week at Andrea's place. Not only Andrea and Marcus are exceptionally friendly and nice, but their house is an experience in itself. I've been in Boston for a week and living in such a Victorian house has been a priceless bonus to my staying.
The surrounding area is quiete and peaceful (there are many other beatiful Victorian house along the same street). The connection with the center is very efficient (the RedLine stop cannot be any closer). It is also very handy to get here from the airport (just take the silverline and then hop on the redline).
To recap, the best place you may imagine if you have to visit Boston and a wonderful place to stay just for the sake of it.
Thanks to Andreas and Marcus.
Andrea and her husband are wonderful hosts. I received more than just a place to sleep and eat! We had wonderful conversations, and they were very kind through this bittersweet phase of bringing my younger daughter to start her college life. The house is spacious and there is lots of natural light! Highly recommend them.
Before I committed I wrote: Hi! I am interested in staying for two nights, arrive tomorrow Wednesday and leave on Friday (I have a plane late in the evening). If I can have my stuff on Friday until I come back stored then that would be great. Thanks, Hedinn HEDINN IS PRE-APPROVED TO STAY AT VICT.MANSION-SPECIAL RENOV RATE NOW Aug 21-23, 2013. That sounds good. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Andrea Considering her review Andrea seems not to remember this. The house rules were at the time of my stay that they are veggies and don't want any meat in their house. I followed the house rules and got permission for every single thing I did. Now the house rules have been changed. It seems that Andrea's review is based on forgetting not only what she wrote before I came but also what she permitted while I was there. Breakfast was supposed to be included. I did not find anyone in the house the first morning, but there was breakfast on the kitchen table. The muffins are good, but it seems that one is supposed to only eat 1 or 2 of them which I did not know. I stayed for two nights, was very busy, left early in the morning and came back in the evening. I had conversations with Andrea and she wanted to discuss with me personal matters like her kids who live in Israel and their lives. She never mentioned how she wanted me to leave the kitchen. I got permission from her for every single thing I did in her house. Just like she has forgotten about our correspondence before I came, she seems to have forgotten that she gave me permission for everything she writes about in her review. Her husband Mark allowed me to keep my luggage in the room, which was on the 2nd floor and Andrea agreed to that. There were no other guests in the house, the room was not being used and the alternative was to have the luggage in the hallway at the front door where it could be both seen from the street and also three big dogs would have full access to it the whole day. I am very sorry that my stay at Andrea's house was not better than it was. I felt it quite demanding to stay there. I am not sure if they really want to have guests even though there is space in their house, since everything seems to bother Andrea. She pretty much lists every single thing other than going straight to and from the room at hours preferred by her. I pretty much just wanted a relaxed place to stay during my busy and very interesting time in Boston. I was not planning to return to Andrea next time I am in Boston though. Overall my stay in Boston was extremely nice, very nice people and I am looking forward to come...
My conscience led me to leave a review of Hedinn to warn other hosts about him, and his anger led him to write this silliness. It was clear to us and our other guest from his behavior that he had, shall we say, issues. We are always available in the morning, but Hedinn was invisible; still, he had to walk past my husband's open office door to get to the kitchen, where a nice plate of muffins and fruit awaited him. And yet he found it appropriate to forage through our food and eat seven (!) other muffins and a stale bagel he found. And we did agree to keep his luggage at the house for his "late-night flight"but he flatly refused to move it out of the room, and we later found out his flight was actually at 5am the next day. While here, he walked through the house in his underwear and so on. I guess I'm sorry I tried to engage him in a social way the way most of our guests seem to enjoy.
Andrea and his husband are kind and perfect hosts! I really enjoyed my stay in Boston thanks to them.
It is like go to visit a friend, and the 3 dogs are so friendly too.
I will suggest this location to everyone who will be thinking to visit Boston.
Andrea has a beautiful home and was a fabulous host! Having the red line just steps away couldn't have been more convenient. I had a great Boston experience staying there.
