So, you're thinking of staying in our eclectic and spacious apartment during your visit to Chicago? Excellent choice. You obviously have great taste!
Our apartment is classic Chicago -- it's the ground floor of a greystone three-flat and features exposed brick, hardwood floors and wood trim.
Our guest room is a fun little sanctuary with high ceilings, a very comfortable queen-sized bed, and a private bathroom right down the hall. We'll provide you with a hair dryer, basic toiletries and fresh towels as well as Boca Terry bathrobes. (Because everyone deserves to feel like a rockstar on the way to the shower.)
ROOM UPDATE: You suggested. We listened! We decided to ditch the big, grey dresser (who needs that much drawer space, anyway?) and replaced it with a supercool mid-century desk and a big mirror. It looks even more amazing!
The guest room has its own TV, where you'll have access to our Netflix and Amazon Prime streaming services as well as selections from our DVD collection on Plex and, of course, the wonderful and uplifting local channels. (We quit cable a few years ago and haven't looked back.)
Need to use the microwave, coffee maker, toaster, tea kettle, or other various newfangled gadgets in our galley kitchen? Go for it. Peruse the Sunday Chicago Tribune over tea at our lovely dining table or play a game in the living room in front of the gas fireplace. Our cats, Obi and Xcode (Cody, for short), would also love to play Get the Mousey, a timeless favorite, with you. Make yourself at home! We're around if you need us, and we want you to have a mind-blowingly amazing time.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the apartment (our bedroom and bathroom are in a sectioned-off area in the back of the apartment along with my office). We really love to chat, but we also want to respect your privacy. The amount of interaction we have is completely up to you! We often go out to eat and drink with guests, but if you'd rather veg out and enjoy some quiet time, we won't take it personally. :)
We're only three blocks from Wrigley Field, three blocks from the lakeshore (for great views of the skyline), and just steps to the Sheridan Red Line station (for quick and easy access to the Loop). Southport Corridor, where you'll find great shops and the Music Box movie theater, is a short walk away, as is the vibrant LGBT neighborhood of Boystown.
Though there's a lot going on nearby, our street is quiet, safe and pretty. We offer free street parking if you're driving in (we'll provide pemits, which you'll need to display on your windshield).
We're a block and a half from the Sheridan Red Line, which will take you downtown in about 20 minutes. Prefer the bus? We're about a block from the Irving Park (80), Sheridan (151) and Broadway (36) routes!
If you're flying into O'Hare or Midway, you can jump on the Blue or Orange lines respectively. No need to blow your life savings on a cab!
From Union Station, you can get the Quincy Brown Line and walk across the platform at Fullerton to switch to the Red Line or just get the 151 bus which will drop you off at the end of our street.
If you're arriving at the Greyhound Station, you can walk across the river to get the LaSalle Brown Line or take the Halsted (8) bus north. It picks up right next to the station, and the end of the line is only a few blocks away from our place.
- *CHECK-OUT TIME IS 11:00am.* We ask guests to be mindful of this, as it allows us to offer flexible check-in for everyone. If this poses a problem for you, it's likely that we will be able to hold your bags until you need them. Be sure to mention it in advance so that we can make arrangements.
- Just like at your house: If you make a mess, please clean up after yourself. Because we love you, we don't charge a cleaning fee. Leaving the space tidy is a great way to pass the love around.
- No smoking.
- No drugs.
- We understand that some guests may have cat allergies. Accordingly, we don't allow Obi and Cody into the inner sanctum of the guest room. Please help us to enforce this policy by keeping your door closed when you're not in the room.
- Please use coasters. :)
Aleshia and Max are wonderfull people, we really enjoyed our time at their place. The house is pretty nice, our room was confortable and the bathroom really clean. Aleshia was pretty helpfull, she gave us some tips on transportation and food that were really good. If you like cats, you will love Code and Obie! We are hoping yo come back on summer.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Aleshia and Max's place for 4 nights and it was excellent! We could not have asked for more. Their house is beautiful and is in such a convenient location, about a 3 min walk to the train station and so close to the city. The room was perfect and the bed was also super comfortable. Everything was perfectly clean as well. We met Aleshia on the first day and she was absolutely lovely and said we were welcome to use the kitchen and help ourselves to cereal, coffee, tea, etc, which although we never used was nice to know we had the option. Also just have to say their cats, Obi and Xcode are the best! If you need a place to stay in Chicago, look no further. We would without a doubt stay here again next time we come to Chicago. Thank you for having us Aleshia and Max!
The best experience I have had in Airbnb so far! Aleshia and Max are awesome hosts! Aleshia was checking on me by text when I was on my way to her place. She helped me to organize what to do in my 3 days in Chicago.
Max helped me with some printing that I needed for the following day. The location is perfect! One block to the train station that takes you straight to downtown. The neighborhood felt really safe at any time. The room is cozy and beautiful! I could have never asked for a better airbnb experience! I felt like home!
I would definitely stay with Aleshia and Max again and will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Their cats are the cutest thing!
We had a wonderful stay with Aleshia and Max. The standard of service and attention to detail was exceptional (they have bathrobes!).
Both Max and Aleshia made us feel at home and very much at ease. We cannot recommend this apartment highly enough! Stay here if you are coming to Chicago.
Thanks for a wonderful time and we will see you in Edinburgh soon!
My boyfriend and I visited Chicago this past weekend and stayed at Max and Aleshia's quaint Chicago apartment. It was fun to stay in authentic Chicago home and we felt welcomed there from the get go. Max showed us our room and gave us some tips on where to eat around town. Our room was nice and cozy and we even had our own bathroom. We had no problems staying there and it was easy to come and go as we pleased. The apartment is right by the Red Line which made getting downtown super easy! And they are also close to Wrigley Field so we went to a game on the last day. Aleshia was very accommodating and we would definitely recommend them if you're going to Chicago! They also have two very sweet cats who I enjoyed playing with. The overall experience was great and it felt so much more personal than a hotel!
We had such a great time with Aleshia and Max we just wish we had planned to stay for a bit longer and see Chicago some more.
Their home is beautiful and comfortable, located 2 minutes walk from a direct Metro to city center.
Aleshia and Max are very helpful and welcoming, it was just a pleasure to meet them.
I'll recommend anyone wishing to spend few days in Chicago to do so at Aleshia and Max's.
Thank you again for everything! :)
Our stay with Max and Aleshia was great! They are both so welcoming and make you feel right at home. We didn't feel like we were intruding at all and were able to come and go as we pleased. Their place was exactly as I expected from seeing the listing, very quant and sweet. What a great way to experience Chicago. This was my first time using Airbnb and I am officially hooked! If I ever make my way back to Chicago I will be sure to stay here again :) Thanks for having us! P.S We loved the cats too!

I'm a freelance writer in Chicago, where I live with my husband, Max, and our cats, Obi and Xcode (Cody, for short). I spent six years living in London, where I met Max and earned my MA in screenwriting. I'm a movie fanatic and love great food and wine. (I'm also currently hard at work on my first novel.)
Max is an independent mobile software developer and is obsessed with (in no particular order): Apple products, video games, craft beer and science fiction. If you work in software engineering, you might be familiar with his work -- he made Homebrew, the package manager for Mac, which is widely used by developers all over the world.
In addition to freelancing, we both work at Mobile Makers Academy in downtown Chicago -- it's a school for people who want to learn how to make iPhone/iPad apps. Max is an instructor and I'm head of admissions.
Whether we're guests or hosts on Airbnb, We're all about friendliness and respecting space. If you want privacy, that's cool! If you want to go down the street and get a drink, that's cool, too!
