You will love your authentic Mexican vacation in the charming beach town of Lo De Marcos. Lovely 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home, 4 blocks from downtown, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the most charming beach in Mexico. Large yard, fully furnished, bottled water. 3 nights MINIMUM stay.
This is an authentic Mexican casa with colorful tiles throughout and a beautiful, large yard filed with coconut palms and protected from the road by tall hedges.
Interaction with Guests
I do not live in Lo De Marcos but I have a lovely property manager who is easy to communicate with and will answer any questions and take car of any problems which may arise.
The house is located in a local neighborhood . You will experience what it's like to live in a small Mexican beach town. Truck venders come by daily selling vegetables, fish, home made tamales, bottled water, sundries, etc. Very fun! It's an easy 10 -15 minute walk to the center of town & beach. There are street lights along the streets so you won't be in total darkness at night but I do recommend bringing a flash light as it helps on the walk home if it gets dark. There are plenty of good restaurants at reasonable prices.
You can always rent a car but it is easy to get around to the coastal towns you may want to visit via taxi and buses. There are several options for buses you can catch on the main highway which is a short walk. It's easy to flag down taxis and taxi vans two blocks walk to the main street. You can also take a bus from Puerto Vallarta to Lo De Marcos to get there.
Other Things to Note
Just to mention, Lo De Marcos is an absolutely wonderful, authentic Mexican beach town. Full of festivals, good cheer, great food, beautiful beaches and good music. The people are friendly and helpful. That being said, this is also rural small town Mexico. It is not a huge, glamorous resort with daily maid service, etc. The plumbing is not what it is in the US so please don't put your paper down the toilet. On occasion the electricity goes out for a couple of hours. Sometimes when there are too many people in town there are water pressure problems. It's all part of the experience and so please be prepared mentally if any of these things occur during your stay. We try our best to fix any problems that may occur as quickly as possible, but not everything is in our control.
Please always lock the house when you go out and close the gate. Put all valuables in drawers when you aren't home, just to be on the safe side. Theft in Lo De is very rare but occurs on occasion. This house has two levels of metal protector bars so its very secure. Lo De Marcos had been a safe town over the past 8 years that I have been going there. There is a washing machine with strange instructions but it has always worked. There is no dryer but a long clothesline. There is hot water in the downstairs bathroom where the shower is but not in the upstairs bathroom which only has a shower and sink. Please find out when trash pickup day is and put the trash can out. If there are any problems or leaks contact my manager asap so she can get it taken care of. Please lock bikes in storage room outside when not in use so they aren't permanently borrowed. Best approach to water is to use as little as possible but enough to be comfortable in case any water issues come up with the town's water system. Have a great time in Lo De Marcos!
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The house was spacious, quiet (except for the roosters!) and beautifully tiled. We were quite comfortable staying there in the end. However, it was not quite as advertised nor ready for our arrival. The refrigerator didn't work, some of the beds weren't made, some of the sheets were dirty, and it was closer to a 15 minute walk to the beach rather than 5 as advertised. The kitchen was easy to use and well equipped.
The local manager, Victoria, was kind and responsive, and did what she could to help us out, bringing in a cooler and ice on the 2nd day and a new refrigerator on the 3rd day.
We had a great time. She has a lovely home. Her housekeeper, Victoria, always made sure we had everything we needed in the house. The beach is 3 blocks away. We had slight trouble with the internet but Victoria was able to fix it. An excursion that guest should do is the Lo de Perla jungle tour in Las Lomas which is in the next town ($22 per person). It's breathtaking in the months of February through May due to the variety of orchids blooming in the jungle
Summary: Great house in a special location.
Though we never got to meet Wendy, we had plenty of clear communication in the weeks and months leading up to our visit. When we arrived, we were greeted by a host family from the village of Lo de Marcos who were extremely friendly and helpful with both the house, the village itself, and the surrounding towns and beaches to visit.
The house itself is a wonderful find with plenty of space, loads of charm, and a huge yard/grounds suitable for lounging or playing soccer with your kids/friends. It is situated a very short walk from the main/downtown road in Lo de Marcos and about a 15 minute walk from the beach. We visited with 5 adults and a 4 yo, and there was plenty of space for us to sleep, hang-out, prepare food, and eat together.
Lo de Marcos is decidedly different than the surrounding towns --- it is off the tourist map for the most part so the experience is very authentic and low-key. We visited many of the surrounding towns, and decided that the beach at Lo de Marcos was easily the best and dramatically less busy. One warning: the surf is pretty heavy, so swimming is suitable for adults, but the waves are a bit heavy for smaller children.
Grocery stores in the town are open until very late at night, so if you arrive late in the day, there is still plenty of time to visit some of the local vendors --- even on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. There are some great little restaurants in the town geared towards the locals rather than tourists hence inexpensive and delicious. Some of the highlight restaurants in the town were Carolina's and Tacos by Oscar. Lo de Marcos does not have a lot of shopping options --- which we generally appreciated. Finding loads of shops is just a matter of taking a very short trip to Sayulita or a longer drive to Puerto Vallarta.
We felt that we found a bit of a hidden gem. We are excited to go back to Lo de Marcos in the future and would not hesitate to stay in Wendy's accommodating house again.
Thanks Wendy and a big thank-you to your host/hostess in Lo de Marco as well.

Like to hike and eat great food and read and play online scrabble and visit the local pub for a beer and shop only a little bit and feel the local ambiance.
