The Space

The Apartment
This spacious private room is a part of a three bedroom apartment. The apartment has a full kitchen (microwave, coffee machine, oven, stove, refrigerator, toaster, juicer, blender, etc.) and a washer and dryer. You can use basically anything. I also have detergent, which you can use for free. The room is very large, clean and the sheets are fresh and changed around 5pm-7pm on the day of your arrival. There will be freshly washed towels for you. There is a desk for you to use with a chair. The house has one printer, which you can use. I also have an iron and dryer for your use as well. There are additional sheets, blankets, and towels, for you if you would like available in the hallway closet.

Internet
There is a high-speed wired connection and wifi (50 mb download speeds). It is very fast and has been very dependable.

Location, Transportation, and Parking
Our location is very accessible because it is in the very center of San Francisco. We are 2 blocks away (6 minute walk) from the 16th St. BART station, which offers a thirty minute direct ride to San Francisco Airport. This is There are many bus routes that are right outside the apartment. A taxi from the airport takes about 20 minutes. There is free street parking available (with street cleaning limitations), and the apartment is near the freeway for those who need to get on Highway 101. I have detailed directions for you about parking, which should make it a lot easier for you. There is also a gas station on the other side of the same block.

Arrival and Departure
Since I travel often for work, I may or may not be here right when you arrive. There is an easy way for you to access the house even when I am away--I'll give you a key lock code that gives you access to the house key. In order to make your stay easy, if there are no guests staying directly before you or after you, I want you to be able to arrive and leave when you would like that day. If there is a guest leaving on the day of your arrival, I will ask them to leave at a reasonable hour (mid-afternoon), and ask you to do the same if someone else is arriving on the day of your departure (this is not that common, actually). You can absolutely drop your bag off early in the morning and roam around, but you may not have access to the room until later that day--this is so you can roam around without carrying around bags if you arrive very early in the morning. Again, I want to make it easiest for all people, and I want your stay here to be easy.

The Neighborhood (and Safety)
While the Mission area is alive and busy, my street is fairly quiet. There are hundreds of great restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, and many bars if you want to go out at night. Coffee shops are everywhere, and there are many nearby grocery stores. The Safeway is a 10-15 minute walk away and FoodsCo and Rainbow Grocery are even closer (5 minute walk). Since the location is very accessible, it is, in my opinion, and many of my guests', an ideal location to access various tourist attractions. We are also a 10 minute walk from Delores Park, from which you can have a view of the entire city. I am privileged in that I have never felt unsafe walking around late at night as a male, but I also had two female housemates who came home late at night often because of work (they lived here for two years), and they never had a problem coming home by themselves (late at night). I'm sure they took precautions late at night as they would in any busy city area (walking on main streets, etc.), but they never had any negative incident occur to them during their stay here.

I am a pretty easygoing host. Ask me anything you'd like, and I'll get back to you as soon possible.

  • YJ was an attentive host. The location is great - walking distance to everything. The room and home is basic and serviceable. No surprises.

  • Great experience! YJ was an awesome, super responsive host. When I asked whether he had an iron, he insisted on ordering it and bringing it in right away! When he noticed the room was getting a bit chilly, he immediately offered a heater. Great guy and very nice, clean room that gets a lot of sunshine. Location was very central, though I would going too far East of Mission.

  • This is a shared room in an apartment of 4 rooms that was pretty low cost. Expect something akin to a grad school apartment.

The apartment wasn't maintained--e.g. garbage never cleared, squishy bathroom mat, clogged bath tub I had to plunge myself and clear the trap by hand. Also, in San Francisco tradition of being the coldest place on earth, there was no heat although the windows were kept open, so it was freezing.

On the other hand, it was located 5 minutes to the Mission & 16th BART station and 20-30 minutes walking distance to downtown / Moscone center. Obviously it's less expensive than a hotel.

If the apartment had basic regular maintenance and heat, it would be worth the price, but I think if you're in town for business it's better to upgrade.

It's more like a 1 star hotel at a better place and location, so I'll give it 2 stars.

Sunir, apologies for this. I was on a rare extended work trip and my house cleaner was away for the week.

  • Great location, and I'm glad to have met Yongjun while he was there, giving food recommendations and tips about the city. The room is exceedingly spacious, and all the amenities in the apartment were available for use, including the full kitchen, making for an almost luxurious stay.

  • YJ was a great host. He was accommodating and quick to respond starting with my first message to him. The place itself is secure and in a fun neighborhood and within walking distance to many great places to eat and drink. The apartment was very clean. Just a few blocks from the BART and Muni bus line making it easy to get around the city. YJ was happy to give us recommendations whenever we asked. He made sure we were comfortable and happy with our stay. I would highly recommend YJ's place.

  • I stayed for one month while I was looking for a long-term apartment in San Francisco. For me the good things outshine the bad things.

The good parts: Yongjun is a great host, he gives you all the freedom you want but he's always available if you need something. The location is great, close to Mission, Lower Haight and useful public transport (BART, 14, 22 and 49 buses). The room and the kitchen are big, although the room could use more furniture, it feels too empty.

The bad parts: 1 bathroom for 4 bedrooms (although that wasn't much of an issue during my stay). The whole apartment was not cleaned often enough. The shower sink clogs too frequenly, I had to unclog it twice or more per week.

All in all good value for the price in a city as expensive as San Francisco. I recommend staying with Yongjun.

  • I didn't get the chance to meet Yongjun but his roommate Tim was very nice. The house is in perfect location, walking distance to financial district. Parking was little bit hard but still possible. The room is simple but clean, and the bed is super comfy. With this price totally worth it.

Yongjun kept very good communication with me and made my stay easy and pleasant.

  • Only a single bathroom for 3+ rooms, but a good value for the money. Good location.

    October 2013
  • The place is great for the price. It's so centrally located, too, that you'll most likely be able to walk everywhere you want to go instead of spending money on Muni or a taxi. YJ was a great host. He's very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs to travel on a budget.

About
I am an easy going host. I am midwesterner from southern Indiana, went to college out on the east coast, worked abroad in Southeast Asia post-graduation, studied abroad for a masters degree in Ireland, and moved to San Francisco a few years ago. I love traveling, running, and I am generally away from San Francisco once per month.
