The Guest House is one of several buildings in an extraordinary architectural compound. The buildings surround a courtyard with a swimming pool, enclosed gardens and a lagoon with fountains. The complex sits in a spectacular landscape of exotic plants and blooming flowers. Numerous works of Asian art are on display in the gardens.

Mangolay is a private, peaceful world in the center of a beautiful tropical rainforest. We are close to the ocean in a setting that is a part of Hawaii as it used to be.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • A Very secluded jungle oasis was our experience. We had our privacy and also the choice to join our hosts for great conversation and night caps.
The jungle sounds just took a night to get used to but if you are sensitive I recommend earplugs at least for the first night. There is so much to do and see we didn't get to it all. A quant little hippy town was about 9 miles away to get groceries and or eat out. Beaches and tide pools are very near by and we were provided with all the gear we needed; all sizes provided to accommodate every guest. We had a great visit and our hosts were sweet, funny and very hospitable.

  • Dennis and Paul are superior hosts and have created a spotless retreat that is worth venturing off the beaten path for. Overall the accommodations, standard of bath and room cleanliness, comfort, and professionalism was top-notch. I would not hesitate to recommend this to even the most picky of travelers.

  • Dennis and Paul have truly created a Garden of Eden in Hawaii. Their property is perfectly garden and perfectly built and perfectly decorated (and the bed is super compfy). We loved staying here. We came to check out Hawaii to move to the island and although we decided Puna region wasn't right for us I would come to the East side just stay at Dennis and Pauls again. They were terrific hosts and the accommodations was amazing. Thank you for making our visit so wonderful.

  • We had a wonderful time staying here. What better location to hang out during some torrential downpours than Mangolay - with the fountains, statues and art from their world travels to enjoy, while the heavy rains danced upon the surface of the pool. Mosquitoes are surprisingly few, and Paul's landscaping of plants and flowers is quite luscious.
Dennis and Paul were super wonderful. We loved hearing stories of their travels. They went out of their way to provide extras for us. They were very inviting - opening up their home and spending time shmoozing with us about many topics. We had fun sharing foods with them as well as our experiences, yet they gave us plenty of privacy when we wanted it.
Thanks for a lovely time Dennis and Paul! We hope to visit Mangolay again. Mahalo!

  • Fabulous visit; the house and surroundings are spectacular. The guest room is wonderful: comfortable, clean and beautiful. Also, it is very private. There are both an indoor and an outdoor shower. Paul and Dennis are the perfect hosts and all together good eggs. GO THERE. Gabrielle, March 2014.

  • Dennis and Paul were gracious hosts who made me feel right at home. They shared plenty of aloha and priceless advice. They know the area well and can help point you in the right direction for whatever experience you seek.

Their place is amazing. It's beautifully landscaped acreage in the middle of the tropical Hawaiian jungle. When a talented architect designs their own dream home, you can be assured that everything is superb and no attention to detail is spared. It instantly felt like home. It was comfortable and private with great views of the manicured grounds. I especially appreciated the fragrance garden planted around the guest suite. Day and night, magical scents filled the air. The whole property is filled with native and exotic and specimen plantings. It was quite heavenly.

I highly recommend a stay with them if you are looking for some tranquility, luxury and nature in the most lush part of Puna.
