About This Listing
One bedroom, one bathroom, quiet cottage in the hills of Sierra Madre with all the amenities: cute, quiet, safe, new kitchen, dog friendly, 2 giant oak trees, laundry, parking, wood fired hot tub, everything you need to visit the L.A. area and retreat to a tranquil respite. *Note: this small cottage has bedroom, kitchen, living room and office nook, but no doors separate these living areas. 500 sq. ft. plus spacious outdoor patio and laundry room.
Tammy's an amazing host and their cottage is very romantic. The wood fired hot tub, private garden in the back, hammock, everything was very well put together (plenty of wood for our stay, for example). Tammy also left us a lot of delicious snacks and drinks for the week. I'd definitely go back to this cottage and highly recommend it!
Tammy has a wonderful, cozy place - perfect for a 4th of July getaway. The wood-fired hot tub is terrific (no temperature limit of 104), and during the hot days, also was a great way to cool off (with no wood fire going) - an unanticipated double benefit. The back patio is a great place to sit and relax (the purpose of the getaway).
The cottage is very cozy and has a very homey feel - but has all the amenities (wi-fi, kitchen utensils and appliances, spices and such) to make it a really terrific place to stay.
Sierra Madre is a great town, and the 4th of July parade was terrific. Really a small town feel. Lots of good foodie places (Mother Moo's ice cream - great ice cream and root beer floats with Sparky's - is a must, breakfast at Mary's Market, and Taylor's has excellent meats and produce). Made a Bottle Shop stop for some Chardonnays (very helpful and knowledgeable), and other little shops were a nice way to spend the day.
Used Tammy's cottage for a stopover in the LA area to visit friends. It was a perfect choice for a few days of relaxation. The cottage is small but has all the necessary amenities, including wi-fi, modern kitchen, and TV. Nicest feature of the cottage is the small, but beautiful garden with comfy chairs, BBQ and hot tub, and a with beautiful tree providing shade for most of the garden and house. My friends actually wanted to come over to the cottage and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I also liked the whole 70's decoration theme (with lava lamp, and nice spirituality books). Sierra Madre is a quiet suburb with a community feel, and a small but lively center. Good home base to explore the rest of LA/Pasadena. Tammy is very accommodating and flexible host. We didn't meet, but she left wine, cheese and cookies as a welcome. Importantly, the place was very clean.
We had a most wonderful stay at The Cottage! It was so relaxing, pleasant, and quiet inside the house and outside in the yard under the beautiful Oak trees.
We loved watching hummingbirds coming to the feeders. Tammy and Rob are great hosts. They were happy to have us stay at their place and did everything they could to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay, including leaving us snacks, food for breakfast and drinks. The hot soaking tub outside was a treat! Sierra Madre is such a great town. We enjoyed the small town atmosphere, walking all over and going hiking. We will be back! Thanks Tammy and Rob!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Tammy's Cottage. This is an adorable, small cottage with a super comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen and an awesome outdoor space with hummingbirds and huge live-oak trees. We were in-town to visit our son and his family and found we didn't want to leave the serene backyard of this cottage! Tammy had everything perfect for us with welcome champagne, snacks and everything we needed for breakfast. The Cottage is in Sierra Madre which if you are not familiar with this town, is like being "outside the city" while "in the city"! The locals are laid back and so friendly, with great little restaurants and easy access to the Mount Wilson hiking (website hidden) is also very close to the 210 so it has easy access to Pasadena, LA and points east. If you are looking for a comfortable, peaceful and unique place to stay I would definitely consider the Cottage. Tammy and Rob are great hosts, the neighbors are friendly and helpful, and the surroundings quiet with the San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop. Don’t miss Mary’s Market around the corner for super Saturday morning pop-overs and great breakfast and lunches throughout the week. Fantastic accommodation and we will stay again when in the LA area. Thanks Tammy for helping make our trip perfect. Happy New Year.
So happy to hear all your positive comments, Donna. Thanks for including the info about Mary's Market, it's a unique place. I'm glad you enjoyed our backyard. We feel the same way! We make some trade-offs with our indoor square footage, but our outdoors, neighbors, and nature more than make up for that! I know you'll be back to see your grandbaby---next time perhaps we can meet. Until then,
About the Host, Tammy
Hi, I'm Tammy. I am a 2nd Grade teacher and mom to our two Shih Tzus, Rocky and Lincoln. Rob works in marketing technology and enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I love cooking, especially in my newly remodeled kitchen. We enjoy traveling, food and wine tasting, great restaurants, and music. We love our little canyon community---a true sanctuary from the excitement of Los Angeles, only minutes, but a world away. Our wonderful neighbors, proximity to nature, and quiet serenity certainly combine to make a 'Mayberry' feel. If you like a little country with your city, we'd love to share!
