About this listing
Spacious and stylish Victorian apartment seeks curious traveler ready to explore the city!
Located in the area known as "Little Saigon": a humble mix of working families, students, cafe denizens, office workers, sex workers (yes!), and an interesting mix of immigrants from all over the world.
Of special interest in the neighborhood: art houses and galleries, unique cafes and amazing restaurants that are affordable and yummy. Close to Chinatown, Civic Center, Union Square, the Ferry Building and the Theater District. The apt is very central, so there are many options for shopping in the neighborhood, and within walking distance.
I can provide you with maps and information about transportation.
The room comes equipped with: medium firm full size bed (new), hardwood floors, free WIFI, flat screen TV, dresser, sofa and storage area. Also present are an Iron and Ironing board. The room is the largest room in the apartment (18 m3/200 sq feet).
The kitchen has a gas stove with oven, microwave and fridge. You are welcome to use whatever you need (oil, spices, etc.) for cooking. I have a Nespresso machine with bullets for your use, a french press, coffee grinder, espresso and tea.
This room is located in a 2 bedroom apartment. The room is separated from the other bedroom by a hallway and is very private. We share the bathroom and the kitchen.
I am gone most of the month for work, so you will probably only see me a few days out of the month.
Please note I do have a very mellow dog named Izzobel. She is 5 years old, a girl (lab/shephard dog) 45 lbs.and she is pretty drama free. She stays in my room when I am home and is usually out with me when I leave. I take great care to bathe her and vacuum the whole apt, so hair should not be an issue. If you have any doubts, I would recommend something else.
I would love the chance to greet you in my home city. I will do my best to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Hope to see you here soon in San Francisco!
If you wish to, the whole apartment may be rented. The apartment has 2 beds and can accommodate up to 4 people. Just send me an inquiry if this is what you wish to do.
Laundry is in the basement, no key required, there is 24 hour access to the laundry room.
Interaction with Guests
I am generally not there, except twice monthly. Mostly you will have the place to yourself.
The neighborhood has lots of history and character. The downtown area is full of historic buildings. The architecture is uniquely San Franciscan. The energy of downtown is enlivening and invigorating.
Other Things to Note
You may have to commit to watering my plants for me while I'm gone. Just check to see if they are thirsty.
I only require that street shoes are not worn in the apartment, except for the hallway.
Pull back the velvet curtains if you want to let in the light..its a very sunny room up here on the 4th floor
It was a great place to stay overall. I never got to see Marlene since she was away, but the apartment was clean and exactly as advertised. She was also very quick to get back whenever I had a question for her.
My arrival and key pickup was a bit rocky, and Tenderloin isn't exactly the prettiest San Francisco neighbourhood. But despite those setbacks, I really enjoyed my time in San Francisco and at Marlene's place.
This apartment is fantastic. I felt at home straigth away. Everything is nice and clean and I couldn't be more satisfied. And it really is close to everything. Feeling hungry? There's mexican, thai, vietnamese and italian right outside your door. Thirsty? Best bars in SF are only a couple of minutes away. Feel like doing some cooking? Trader Joe's is right up Hyde st. Oh man, kicking back in the heavenly sofa the room has to offer, watching star trek on the awesome TV while eating the best tacos in town, there's nothing like it!
But wait, there's more!!! Marlene, your landlady, is amazing. She's really accommodating and set on making your stay the best possible one. She knows a lot about SF and is more than happy to share her knowledge with you. She made my experience totally unforgettable. I already miss the place. Yup, I'm homesick, because that's how you're going to think of the place, as a home.
Marlene is an excellent host. Although I didn't get the chance to connect with her too much due to her work schedule, she made sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. The apartment itself is wonderful and I had a great stay. I'd definitely recommend her place to anyone headed that way.
The location of this place is great because you really can get to wherever you want to go pretty quickly. The room is very comfortable, however, the street just outside can get quite noisy even during the late hours. I didn't get to see Marlene very much due to her being out of town when I arrived and when she was in town I had night owl hours, however, she always made sure I had everything I needed.
Marlene was a very gracious host. Warm and friendly very easy to talk to. We both had busy schedules and did not have much time to interact with each other over my 2 week stay. I had ample privacy and access to the kitchen with no problem.. There is a street noise factor to be considered so as in previous reviews bring earplugs if your a light sleeper. Read up on the Tenderloin area it is an unusual experience. Very close to downtown and the business district. Transportation is readily available. The apartment is on the 4th floor. Check with Marlene to find out if the elevator is fixed yet :-). Otherwise you will get a good daily cardio out of your stay. Parking is limited and expensive in SF on any level. Best to park outside of the city and shuttle in for your stay to save money. Overall it was a positive learning experience for me. This was my 1st use of AirBnB.
I stayed at Marlene's place for 5 weeks and I had a great time. During the first 3 weeks she was out most of the time. In the remaining two weeks she made dinner several times. We always had good conversations and it was a pleasure for me to meet her. She is a very polite and helpful person. As already said in the title, the place is located pretty much in the center so that a lot of places are in walking distance, for instance union square and market street. I had to commute to Berkeley for working during the week which took almost an hour. Although that took quite some time, I really enjoyed staying at her place in SF and I would so again.
Marlene was a fantastic hostess who went out of her way to make me feel at home. She showed me around the area on my first day in town. She also respects your privacy, yet will be comfortably conversational if you so desire. The room is spacious for one person. The listing is priced lower than many San Francisco listings due to its location in the Tenderloin. Also, if you are looking for tourism activities, it is a cost-effective option for this, as many tourist locations are not far. Overall, a great stay.
About the Host, Marlene
Nutty girl from California. I like art, animals, bicycles, books, movies, music, shoes and food. I love to travel and study. My favorite subjects are science (physiology and medicine) and language study (French and German). My favorite pastime is walking with my dog to some of the most beautiful parks in the city, to relax and absorb some sunshine.
My philosophy of hosting on Airbnb is to live and let live. I like to allow my guests time to ease into their new space, providing them with only as much guidance as needed. I will however, insist that my guests become familiar with public transportation. I may make some recommendations of places to check out. The bottom line is, I want my guests to feel comfortable and relaxed, and maybe a little inspired!
