The Space

Coming to Louisville for a night or a week? Moving to town but not sure where to live? I have an extra bedroom with private bath in my comfortable 2 bedroom completely renovated bungalow in the Highlands area of Louisville. If more than 2 of you are traveling together, I have a second guest bedroom that's not listed here, so just inquire. The bedroom has a closet, dresser, nightstand and a firm queen size mattress with comfort padded top. The adjacent bathroom has a tub/shower with rain style shower. For those who have allergies, note that I have 2, six year old cats who are very affectionate, but pretty much stay to themselves. My place isn't all "furry" though. I'm fanatic about keeping my home clean and orderly, and the second guest bedroom is 100% pet-free as it's on a different level of the house (second floor). Often people comment that if they hadn't seen the cats they wouldn't even have known I had any. Nightly rate includes clean linens, towels, and bathroom essentials (shampoo, body wash or soap, etc).

There are approximately 7 restaurants within a 3 block walking distance of my home. I am less than a half mile from Bellarmine University and approximately 3 miles from the University of Louisville. I keep a fairly busy schedule so generally guests generally have the house to themselves. I am an avid cook (not professional), so if you are so inclined, you are welcome to use anything in the kitchen you find available. I also grow a variety of veggies in a fairly small seasonal garden, so depending on what's ripe, you're more than welcome to pick from the garden, which may include a couple different varieties of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, broccoli, cucumbers and some herbs.

Guest Access

give my guests full run of the house. You are free to watch TV in the den or use the TV in the guest bedroom. You are also welcome to cook in my kitchen. There are 2 grocery stores within a mile of my home. On a nice day feel free to lounge on the patio with a glass of your favorite adult or non-alcoholic beverage and relax to the sound of the tranquil waterfall in the backyard. I do have complimentary high-speed WIFI and provide a variety of soft beverages, coffee and hot teas. If there's anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable, please ask!

Interaction with Guests

I do like to interact with my guests, as much as they may like my company. If invited, I've been known to go out to eat with guests, (email hidden) hopping, or enjoy a nice dinner at home. I'm happy to make recommendations on places to see, eat and entertain. My guests are free to come and go as they wish.

The Neighborhood

Deer Park is a neighborhood four miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Most of the neighborhood was developed from 1890 through the 1920s as a streetcar suburb, with all but six of its 24 subdivisions being developed by 1917, and the last laid out by 1935, although some development west of Norris Place continued after World War II. (Information provided by Wikipedia.)

My home sits in the middle of the Deer Park neighborhood, which is considered a part of a larger area of Louisville called The Highlands. It's a very eclectic part of town. It's a very walkable area with mixed architecture that includes craftsmen-style homes like mine, Victorians, and everything in between. It's a quiet and charming part of town, just 4 miles from the central business district downtown. There are 2 parks within walking distance - Tyler Park and the much larger Cherokee Park, which features a 2.5 mile paved walking loop. Bardstown Road, with a great mix of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and bars is just 3 blocks away.

Getting around

My home is roughly only a $20 cab ride from the airport. Multiple city bus stops (TARC) are just a block or so in either direction. Ample on-street parking is available.

Check In
  • Michael (email hidden)! He took us in with shorter notice than we cared to give. His home is really close to the places we wanted to explore. His attention to detail in his house is very impressive. He shows a great deal of pride in it, which I really appreciate. I'd recommend anyone stay at Michael's if you happen to be in Louisville for a night or a month! In the short time we spoke, I could tell he was a man of great character and carries a wealth of knowledge. He really loves Louisville too! Thanks again Michael. Couldn't have asked for better accommodations. Cheers!

  • Michael (email hidden)e house is in a great neighborhood, very walkable to all of the best shops and places to eat on Bardstown Rd. and not too far from Frankfort Ave. (you'd have to drive to Frankfort Ave.).

His home was beautiful and the room and bathroom are quite luxurious and clean. Michael was very flexible with the check in process. This neighborhood keeps up coming back to Louisville several times a year and we hope to stay with Michael again!

  • My stay at Michael's was very comfortable. Michael (email hidden), and he responded immediately to all my queries. He had some great recommendations too about what to do and where to eat etc.

The rooms are very neat and clean, and the house is beautiful. The cats are really cute and do not bother one at all!

We really enjoyed our stay and would love to stay here again if we visit again.

  • My 17 year old son and I just (email hidden) to lay our heads down for one evening as we travelled down to Bonnaroo. Michael's place was very well located and very nice. He wasn't there when we arrived, but we easily found the house key as per his instructions. My son and I walked around the cool neighborhood checking out the many interesting shops before deciding on one of the many excellent choices for a delicious dinner. We met Michael at the house after dinner and he was a very gracious host. This was my first time sharing a room, rather than having the entire space and Michael made it very easy and comfortable.

  • (email hidden)! It was a very comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood...convenient to Bardstown Road and not far from downtown. The room was perfect. Very clean and inviting. Michael was an excellent host; he gave us several good suggestions on restaurants, etc. His two cats were friendly, too! :D Would definitely stay here again if we return to Louisville.

  • My friend and I stayed with Michael and had a wonderful time walking around his neighborhood, and felt welcomed and comfortable. Based on Michael's recommendations, we enjoyed Louisville's sights and great food. This location is a pleasant walk to Bardstown Road and Cherokee Park. I'd definitely stay here again!

I'm a very engaging, but private professional, who works locally for the University of Louisville. I like to travel extensively around the world. I love to do home renovation projects, garden and cook. I like good wine and fine bourbon. I'm also an avid cyclist. If you bring a bike, we may just go riding together!
