About this listing
Quiet, conveniently located home in one of the city's most desirable neighborhoods: The Highlands. My listing includes a private bath adjoining the guest bedroom. I also have a second floor guest bedroom available for larger groups.
Coming to Louisville for a night or a week? Moving to town but not sure where to live? I have an extra bedroom with private bath in my comfortable 3 bedroom completely renovated bungalow in the Highlands area of Louisville. If more than 2 of you are traveling together, I have a second guest bedroom also available. Your bedroom has a closet, dresser, nightstand and a firm queen size mattress with comfort padded top. The adjacent bathroom has a tub/shower with rain style shower head. For those who have allergies, note that I have 2, six year old cats who are very affectionate, but pretty much stay to themselves. My place isn't all "furry" though. I'm fanatic about keeping my home clean and orderly, and the second guest bedroom is 100% pet-free as it's on a different level of the house (second floor). Often people comment that if they hadn't seen the cats they wouldn't even have known I had any. Nightly rate includes clean linens, towels, and bathroom essentials (shampoo, body wash or soap, etc).
There are approximately 7 restaurants within a 3 block walking distance of my home. I am less than a half mile from Bellarmine University and approximately 3 miles from the University of Louisville. I keep a fairly busy schedule so generally guests generally have the house to themselves. I am an avid cook (not professional), so if you are so inclined, you are welcome to use anything in the kitchen you find available. I also grow a variety of veggies in a fairly small seasonal garden, so depending on what's ripe, you're more than welcome to pick from the garden, which may include a couple different varieties of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, broccoli, cucumbers and some herbs.
NON SMOKING ONLY.
My guests have full use of all areas of the home except the lower level. This area contains my private bathroom and media room. You are free to watch TV in the first floor den or use the TV in the guest bedroom. You are also welcome to cook in my kitchen. There are 2 grocery stores within a mile of my home. On a nice day feel free to lounge on the patio with a glass of your favorite adult or non-alcoholic beverage and relax to the sound of the tranquil waterfall in the backyard. I do have complimentary high-speed WIFI and provide a variety of soft beverages, coffee and hot teas. If there's anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable, please ask!
Interaction with Guests
I do like to interact with my guests, as much as they may like my company. If invited, I've been known to go out to eat with guests, do a little bar hopping, or enjoy a nice dinner at home. I'm happy to make recommendations on places to see, eat and entertain. My guests are free to come and go as they wish.
Deer Park is a neighborhood four miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Most of the neighborhood was developed from 1890 through the 1920s as a streetcar suburb, with all but six of its 24 subdivisions being developed by 1917, and the last laid out by 1935, although some development west of Norris Place continued after World War II. (Information provided by Wikipedia.)
My home sits in the middle of the Deer Park neighborhood, which is considered a part of a larger area of Louisville called The Highlands. It's a very eclectic part of town. It's a very walkable area with mixed architecture that includes craftsmen-style homes like mine, Victorians, and everything in between. It's a quiet and charming part of town, just 4 miles from the central business district downtown. There are 2 parks within walking distance - Tyler Park and the much larger Cherokee Park, which features a 2.5 mile paved walking loop. Bardstown Road, with a great mix of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and bars is just 3 blocks away.
My home is roughly only a $20 cab ride from the airport. Multiple city bus stops (TARC) are just a block or so in either direction. Ample on-street parking is available.
Other Things to Note

I expect guests to treat my house as they would their own. I'm very ecologically conscious, and believe we should minimize our footprint on the planet as much as possible. I'm not a fanatic, but I do believe - HEAVILY - in recycling. I recycle all paper, plastics, metals and glass. The only thing that goes into my trash can is food scraps (at least until I get into composting).
I do not have a cleaning service, nor am I your "maid." I expect guests to clean up after themselves. For example, if you dirty a dish, put it in the dishwasher. If you use a towel, hang it up to dry. I do not provide freshly laundered towels on a daily basis. If you stay a week or longer, I will launder the sheets and towels once a week.
Guests are free to use my washer and dryer, but I would respectfully ask that you leave $5 per load to cover the cost of use of the equipment, detergents, water and energy.
Non-paying guests and pets are not allowed (while friendly, my cats do not take well to other animals) and I do not rent to people under 21.
Living room as seen when you enter the house. The house has been completely renovated over the last 6 years.
Michael was very welcoming and flexible with our arrival, as I wasn't sure what time we'd be in. We stayed in touch by text and all went smoothly.
His home is so nice. It was sparkling clean!!! It was our first time being in a room in a home (as opposed to a separate and private area). Michael made us feel very comfortable. The homemade zucchini bread was especially nice. He shared the recipe and I can't wait to make it.
The area is very very safe. It is close to everything - even walking distance to neighborhood restaurants, etc.
We hope to be back next year and would LOVE to stay here again.
p.s. his cats are sweet and beautiful.
We had a very nice stay, it was all very clean, very close to a busy street with restaurants and the two wonderful white cats were letting us feel like home.
Least I can say that Michael was an amazing host. I enjoyed staying in his gorgeous home and lovely neighborhood. He is so friendly and you would really enjoy having conversation with him. His house is so clean and the room is so comfortable. I recommend Michael for whoever wants to stay in the Highlands, Louisville area.
This is the ideal Airbnb experience. Michael was hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable on the local scene. His place was beautiful, unique, and meticulously clean. Our visit was short and sweet, but we would definitely stay with Michael again.
All of life should be this simple. Last-minute reservation and late arrival so we never met our host. However, keys and brief but very concise instructions/advice were left in a predetermined location and all was exactly as described.
Michael's home is old, charming, beautifully restored and impeccably clean. Room was cozy with a very comfortable bed. I plugged in and logged on and enjoyed a quiet hour of work in the front room. In the morning, made coffee in the beautiful kitchen and wrote letters at the dining room table. Really felt like a first class hotel.
One potential caveat; two big, friendly cats. Non-issue unless you are allergic or otherwise bear some feline intolerance (my son and I enjoyed them). Highly recommend.
Michael is a professional and it was reflected in our great experience!
The listing was 100% accurate and Michael greeted us at the door.
The location is *perfect* to offer the best of Lwelville. The neighborhood is comfortable and quaint, and I felt safe and secure. One of the best experiences in traveling.
The bed itself was notably comfortable, which is always a risk. I collapsed into bed after a long day of driving and exploring and had my best nights sleep in months.
There is so much more to Luwlville to discover! We'll be back and back to Michael's for sure
Our visit to Michael's lovely home was a real highlight of our trip so far. The room itself is extremely comfortable and as a host, Michael could not have done more to make us welcome. The house is located in a quiet and safe part of Louisville with easy parking, yet is just a short walk from some great eating and drinking options. We could not recommend this listing highly enough. Thanks Michael.

About the Host, Michael
I'm a very engaging, but private professional, who works locally for the University of Louisville. I like to travel extensively around the world. I love to do home renovation projects, garden and cook. I like good wine and fine bourbon. I'm also an avid cyclist. If you bring a bike, we may just go riding together!
