The host was so helpful and sweet. We truly enjoyed this lovely and well equipped house with it’s breathtaking views. We would definitely come back!
Ads for lodging, real estate, retail, dating, really talk it up... and too often the real thing is disappointing when you encounter it in person. At Cay's chalet, it's the opposite. We were delighted by the beauty & personality of decor, the spaciousness, comfort, amenities... and the most luxurious indoor hammock I've experienced. Along with the king sized bed (in one of 3 bedrooms) & the long view of the Catskills, it was hard to leave the chalet during your stay. When we did, it was a long walk down the peaceful roads. I'm a country girl who's been in NYC a dozen years and crave real retreats, so if like me you want a place to really settle into, this is it. The kitchen is fully appointed & we brought groceries along, but Cay gave recommendations for restaurants in the area that I've heard great things about. I didn't meet Cay in person, but in communications she is informative and warmly welcoming.
I'm wracking my brain for criticism, only because I tend to mistrust reviews that only glow & gush… but i'm having a tough time finding any. I suppose if you want shops & dining right next door you'd be disappointed, but I think the ad & reviews make it clear that this is quite rural. The only critique I can come up with is the wood floors are unsealed, meaning extra care to avoid staining them, esp for guests with kids, pets, red wine, etc., but the huge deck does with that. I'd love to return here again, I'm sure it is breathtaking in all seasons.
Super comfy beds, breathtaking views... we had the most perfect relaxing weekend in the Catskills at Cay Sophie's place. Plus, she was super responsive and welcoming — would stay again in a heartbeat!
Cay was super fast to respond to my last minute booking. Even though she had to be out of town she made my wife and my's first trip to the catskills memorable. The house was exactly as described and seen in the pictures (although the WONDERFUL fur lined hammock in the living room wasn't hyped enough). It is quite remote, so I'd recommend bringing enough for your first evening grocery/food wise in case you don't feel like going out. They do have some basics, but if you dream of cooking up a steak and enjoying it on the beautiful patio you'll need to bring it with or have time to run to a local farm for it. The area, Bovina, is adorable. The hosts had great pointers for restaurants and shops, plus they seem to know everyone there. Overall a great stay. Only other recommendation I would make, is to bring a bluetooth speaker like a jambox for entertainment. They have one pair of small speakers in the living room and one TV in the bedroom, although if you are watching TV with the view that exists out back, you are doing it wrong.
Cay and Christian went out of their way to welcome us to their place on the beautiful Brambley Mountain. They even showed us around the community and the house before as we arrived and left us with fresh farm eggs and a generously stocked kitchen. The chalet is spacious, artsy, and has inside and outside hammocks! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and loved exploring the farms, forests, rivers and community in the Catskills. We would visit again!
We had a wonderful stay in the Catskills. View from the house was beautiful, and all the furnishings were both comfortable and elegant. The house feels very airy, spacious and minimal. Would love to return!!! BTW recommend hiking near by in Pepacton Reservoir, nice hike for anyone that is interested.
The Chalet Shack is the perfect place to get away, relax, explore, and take in the Catskills. Cay Sophie was detailed in her communication, and answered all of our questions quickly. She was a great host even though we never met in person. She gave us a lot of suggestions of places to eat and things to see. We are glad we took some of her recommendations!
The house itself is very nicely furnished with an artistic flair. All the beds were received well and the kitchen is well stocked and ready for any meal. Internet worked great and we had cell service throughout the cabin.
The nearby towns were a delight, and whenever you pass someone on the road they would wave (something you would never see in the city)! There is a truly warm feeling to the area.
We came up from NYC looking for a secluded and rustic getaway. We got exactly that at the shack, without any compromises. It has all the comforts a home away from home should have, and in a beautiful setting.
