About this listing
The Casita is our home's private guesthouse set on lush, and tranquil grounds; it is not a condo. Coming home from work, I feel transported to a tropical resort. Originally built for visiting family and friends, it can now be your relaxing getaway!
Immerse yourself in tropical paradise on Texas's 3rd coast. Lush hideaway perfect for one or two couples in self-contained, detached, 2-story guesthouse with plenty of privacy for a romantic getaway. (Please note that this is our home's private guesthouse. It is NOT a condo.) Master bedroom and full bath with it's own deck balcony is in the upstairs loft. Ground floor has a futon sofa bed for 2 and half bath with kitchen. 54" widescreen TV, stereo with CD player, recumbent bike, lightweight weighs and exercise ball for your use.
Kitchen is equipped with range, oven, microwave, coffee maker and full size refrigerator/freezer. Plenty of dishware, silverware, corkscrew and cooking utensils. Bath amenities provided.
Please note that we do not accept guests under 25; this includes children even if they are with their parents.
Built in the 1930s, our home was moved to its present location in the '50s and has been added on to, revised and remodeled several times since. Casa Tropical was featured in "Southern Living" in the 1980s. The casita was constructed for our visiting family and friends, and now we offer it to you!
The triple-paned Pella doors and windows ensure complete quiet in the casita and help make it inviting and snug.
The neighborhood is safe with flat terrain which makes long walks or bike rides enjoyable. The surrounding houses are all different from each other and are set on their properties in individualized ways; this is not a cookie-cutter "housing development." In fact, I think you'll find that there is nowhere else in Corpus Christi quite like our home.
We are 15 minutes from the downtown attractions and 15 minutes from the island beaches. The performing arts center is a 3 minute drive, or a 15 minute walk. A bird sanctuary/shoreline nature preserve is a 2 minute drive, or 15 minute walk in a different direction. One of the major bird flyways of America is overhead, and Casita Tropical is literally at its very end. Bird watchers are in heaven here. There are also two golf courses within walking distance.
Casita Tropical is one block north of the ocean and Oso Bay is across the street on the east side of the property. The sandy beach opposite Texas A&M CC is a 30 minute walk from the Casita. Downtown attractions such as the USS.Lexington and Texas Aquarium, as well as Padre Island's many beaches (where you can drive right onto the sand and along the water's edge!) and other sites of interest are equally convenient.
We are near all of Corpus's activities: sport fishing, angling, sailing, kite and wind surfing as well as regular surfing, sky diving, beach bumming, shell collecting, Padre Island National Seashore, great restaurants, seafood joints and friendly watering holes. We are within walking distance of Texas A&M CC University.

My husband and I stayed at Constance and Connor's Casita for four nights while we explored Corpus Christi and its' gorgeous national seashore. The Casita was a welcome retreat from the heat, wind and sun that Texas and this area is known for. It is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens that are well tended and nurtured and tall trees, affording pleasant shade and a peaceful vibe in the multiple outdoor sitting areas. My particular retreat was the upper deck off the bedroom, which caught gentle breezes and created a lovely filtered light. Yes, as previous reviewers have pointed out, you can hear the road noise from a nearby road (less from the lower level seating), but you also hear the wind in the trees and happy birds in a very private setting. The Casita itself is quiet as can be, very comfortable, with a very nice double bed, an extra futon downstairs along with a cushy couch. The AC works beautifully. Fluffy robes are in the closet, and shampoos and body wash provided. There is a half bath downstairs which is nice to have. The kitchen is nicely outfitted for those who want to cook, although we chose to eat simply and experience some of the area restaurants. Everything was spotless. We were able to use our cell network and I was able to log on to the house wifi only from the deck upstairs. But it is slow and spotty, which is why it is not offered as an amenity. I spent many a productive hour (too many!) at the nearby coffee shop, Coffee Waves, which is about 1/4 mile or less from the Casita, right across from a municipal golf course (which my husband enjoyed). The coffee shop is set up for people who need to work and it is a very pleasant place, with multiple seating options inside and out and a warm atmosphere. There is a small bookstore and and market across the road from the Casita, and a major shopping strip along the freeway only two miles away which literally has anything you could possibly need from an extraordinary array of commercial enterprises. There is a wildlife refuge only about 1/2 mile away that's nice to explore. Connor and Constance were lovely hosts, very responsive, friendly and welcoming. They obviously care for their property and care about the experience of their guests. If you are looking for a shady, private and peaceful retreat that is midway between the seashore and Corpus, the Casita is for you! Thank you Connor and Constance for a great stay (and the gardening advice :-)
Connor and Constance are great hosts! We were made to feel welcome upon arrival and throughout our stay. The apartment is a true value, spacious with comfortable furniture. The neighborhood is awesome. Take a short, scenic drive along the coast and experience the downtown area.
This was my first Airbnb experience and it was wonderful Constance and Connor are warm and welcoming. The place is like being in a private home with really good neighbors. It's very beautiful and tropical. When I injured my foot on the third day i was there Constance gave me a cane to use temporarily and ordered a cane for me online with her amazon account. The place is fabulous and so are they. There is sketchy internet access but a great coffee place nearby has good access. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Great stay.
The Casita was lovely! The space was inviting, clean, and quiet--a welcome respite after long days out. Constance and Connor were warm and welcoming and provided everything I needed to have a comfortable, enjoyable, and restful stay, including a very well-equipped kitchen. I only wish I'd had more time to enjoy their beautiful gardens! I highly recommend the Casita.
The Casa Tropical was more than we expected. Lots of space, amazing garden, we enjoyed our stay very much.
The location close to the sea was perfect.
Communication with Conner and Constance couldn't have been better. What more? We would have loved to stay longer. Thanks.
Casita Tropicale was a great place to stay for us both. Constance was extra busy making sure even the driveway was clean for us when we pulled up at the house and she was most welcoming and friendly. We can't say enough about how nice it was to stay in such a roomy, homey house as opposed to a hotelroom...and the use of 2 quite large bathrooms, one on the main floor and the full shower bathroom upstairs in the loft area was great for us and I'm sure a small family would really appreciate them.
The use of the upstairs balcony and 2 deck areas on the main level was great...one deck has a full picnic table and patio chairs for outdoor dining etc...we loved the view of the gardens and enjoyed such a nice fragrance from Constance's herbs while we sipped on our coffee.
The only item on our wish list would have been Wifi access...we only had one good spot out near the driveway the first day we arrived and no access for the rest of the week. But luckily there is a SUPER cafe a few blocks away on Almeeda St. with great coffee and VERY welcoming staff,so that became our daily drop-in spot and we could catch up on emails and Skypin' the Grandboys!!!
So if you don't mind the lack of Wifi, "Con & Con's place is a super-stay !!!
Thanks Connor and Constance. We really appreciated getting such good value for our vacation dollar and we'll be passing on our thoughts to friends and family who take the time to Travel-in-Texas !!
Connor and Constance were wonderful hosts. They provided us with all the information necessary to make our stay a relaxing experience. The casita is large and the garden is nice to sit out in and enjoy even in the rainy weather we experienced. There is a bit of traffic noise as you are close to a busy road. I would also recommend having a car as it made our stay more enjoyable.
About the Host, Connor & Constance
Of all the things we could say to describe ourselves, at the core is our appreciation of diversity. We enjoy variation in people's lifestyles and backgrounds, pick new travel destinations rather than returning to the same ones, have broad musical tastes, will try any new food at least once, like all types of art. Photography (both looking at it as well as shooting photos) is something of a passion for Connor. You will find some of his Africa and Amazon photos inside Casita Tropical. Constance loves working in our amazing garden. (Just wait till you see our grounds and decks!)
One of the best things we like about living in Corpus Christi is how breezy it is, especially where our home is located. Being right next to the Bay as well as the Oso River's tidal basin keeps it fresh, making it 5 degrees cooler in the summer and 5 degrees warmer in winter than adjacent inland areas.
