The Casita is our home's private guesthouse set on lush, and tranquil grounds; it is not a condo. Coming home from work, I feel transported to a tropical resort. Originally built for visiting family and friends, it can now be your relaxing getaway!
Immerse yourself in tropical paradise on Texas's 3rd coast. Lush hideaway perfect for one or two couples in self-contained, detached, 2-story guesthouse with plenty of privacy for a romantic getaway. (Please note that this is our home's private guesthouse. It is NOT a condo.) Master bedroom and full bath with it's own deck balcony is in the upstairs loft. Ground floor has a futon sofa bed for 2 and half bath with kitchen. 54" widescreen TV, stereo with CD player, recumbent bike, lightweight weighs and exercise ball for your use.
Kitchen is equipped with range, oven, microwave, coffee maker and full size refrigerator/freezer. Plenty of dishware, silverware, corkscrew and cooking utensils. Bath amenities provided.
Please note that we do not accept guests under 25; this includes children even if they are with their parents.
Built in the 1930s, our home was moved to its present location in the '50s and has been added on to, revised and remodeled several times since. Casa Tropical was featured in "Southern Living" in the 1980s. The casita was constructed for our visiting family and friends, and now we offer it to you!
The triple-paned Pella doors and windows ensure complete quiet in the casita and help make it inviting and snug.
The neighborhood is safe with flat terrain which makes long walks or bike rides enjoyable. The surrounding houses are all different from each other and are set on their properties in individualized ways; this is not a cookie-cutter "housing development." In fact, I think you'll find that there is nowhere else in Corpus Christi quite like our home.
We are 15 minutes from the downtown attractions and 15 minutes from the island beaches. The performing arts center is a 3 minute drive, or a 15 minute walk. A bird sanctuary/shoreline nature preserve is a 2 minute drive, or 15 minute walk in a different direction. One of the major bird flyways of America is overhead, and Casita Tropical is literally at its very end. Bird watchers are in heaven here. There are also two golf courses within walking distance.
Casita Tropical is one block north of the ocean and Oso Bay is across the street on the east side of the property. The sandy beach opposite Texas A&M CC is a 30 minute walk from the Casita. Downtown attractions such as the USS.Lexington and Texas Aquarium, as well as Padre Island's many beaches (where you can drive right onto the sand and along the water's edge!) and other sites of interest are equally convenient.
We are near all of Corpus's activities: sport fishing, angling, sailing, kite and wind surfing as well as regular surfing, sky diving, beach bumming, shell collecting, Padre Island National Seashore, great restaurants, seafood joints and friendly watering holes. We are within walking distance of Texas A&M CC University.

Casita Tropicale was a great place to stay for us both. Constance was extra busy making sure even the driveway was clean for us when we pulled up at the house and she was most welcoming and friendly. We can't say enough about how nice it was to stay in such a roomy, homey house as opposed to a hotelroom...and the use of 2 quite large bathrooms, one on the main floor and the full shower bathroom upstairs in the loft area was great for us and I'm sure a small family would really appreciate them.
The use of the upstairs balcony and 2 deck areas on the main level was great...one deck has a full picnic table and patio chairs for outdoor dining etc...we loved the view of the gardens and enjoyed such a nice fragrance from Constance's herbs while we sipped on our coffee.
The only item on our wish list would have been Wifi access...we only had one good spot out near the driveway the first day we arrived and no access for the rest of the week. But luckily there is a SUPER cafe a few blocks away on Almeeda St. with great coffee and VERY welcoming staff,so that became our daily drop-in spot and we could catch up on emails and Skypin' the Grandboys!!!
So if you don't mind the lack of Wifi, "Con & Con's place is a super-stay !!!
Thanks Connor and Constance. We really appreciated getting such good value for our vacation dollar and we'll be passing on our thoughts to friends and family who take the time to Travel-in-Texas !!
Connor and Constance were wonderful hosts. They provided us with all the information necessary to make our stay a relaxing experience. The casita is large and the garden is nice to sit out in and enjoy even in the rainy weather we experienced. There is a bit of traffic noise as you are close to a busy road. I would also recommend having a car as it made our stay more enjoyable.
Everything was as described in the listing. Very friendly people with a cozy little space. A great combination of seclusion and convenience.
We enjoyed our 3 day stay at Constance and Connor's casita. It was as described and more. We found it to be comfortable, well equipped, clean, and located in a very nice neighborhood that was centrally located. Even though it was in a residential area, it felt very private. Our communication with them was excellent. We enjoyed the little extras such as the cozy robes and blankets to wrap up in on chilly mornings and nights. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by Constance and given a tour and directions about the house. She was helpful with suggestions for restaurants and shopping and offered help with anything else we might need.
Even before we arrived, Connor and Constance were welcoming and caring - traits that carried over all though our time in Corpus Christi. From our arrival as it was growing dark, as they insisted on helping us in with bags, through restaurant suggestions that well-matched our prior research, to the privacy afforded us (and we hope, them too) on a day that we felt "under the weather" and stayed put, and completing with calls and texts when we - mistakenly, it turned out - believed we'd left items there, they provide a sense of anchor and "home base."
The location was perfect for us and the activities on Padre Island and at Aranasas National Wildlife Refuge/Goose Island State Park that we had on our list. Additionally, they are just off a beautiful drive along the water where the city is really on view. Nearby, just a short drive away, is Sprouts, a market that we enjoy when we are in Texas and the Southwest. We found really terrific restaurants just a couple of miles away. Really, this location was pretty ideal for our needs.
The kitchen in the casita was adequately stocked with utensils for those breakfasts and dinners we wanted to make ourselves. While we didn't use it, it was so generous that there was a cooler available for picnics. The balcony off the upstairs provided a good place to read and catch sight of the water. There is a bathroom on the ground level, and the shower and second toilet is upstairs. We found this arrangement convenient. We also really liked the robes hanging in the walk-in closet upstairs - wow! is there a LOT of storage space in the casita!
All in all, we found this to be a comfortable, secure, and well-loved location whose owners, close by across the lovely "hawaiian" themed garden, are kind and caring hosts!
Constance greeted us and showed us around the residence and answered all our questions. Place looked great, clean and inviting. There was some traffic noise as major road runs nearby, but the many plants in the yard hid much of it and reduced the noise. Very nice neighborhood and easy to get to our relatives residence along major streets. The upper suite was comfortable and warm, with shower, oversized chair/ottoman and plenty of closet space. Downstairs offers two couches, large screen, older model, television, swivel chair, small table and chairs, kitchen and half bath. The basket of essential items in the bath was a nice touch. The framed pictures taken on an African safari and other trips are spectacular. We really liked the sunset (sunrise?) picture. Exterior motion lights make it safe and the aisle lights along the residence leading to the entry were a nice touch. Nice deck, comfortable chairs and pleasant area to sit and listen to the birds. It was cool in the morning, but we still enjoyed coffee on the deck. Also, had nice walk down to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus and able to enjoy the water view.
Constance made us feel very welcome when we got there. The neighborhood was very good and the guest house was very nice. There were lots of green plants with some flowering in January. The weather never froze, but it was colder than normal. I think the house was described adequately. It would be an improvement if wi-fi capability were added. The house was clean and had a large screen TV. In summary, Very good place place.
Of all the things I could say to describe myself, at the core is my appreciation of diversity. I enjoy the variation in people's backgrounds and lifestyles, pick new travel destinations rather than returning to the same ones, have broad musical tastes, will try any new food at least once, like all types of art. Photography (both looking at it as well as shooting photos) is something of a passion. You will find some of my Africa and Amazon photos inside Casita Tropical. I am a solid guy; practical-minded and efficient.
One of the best things I like about living in Corpus Christi is how breezy it is, especially where our home is located. Being next to the Bay as well as the Oso River's tidal basin keeps it fresh, it also makes it 5 degrees cooler in the summer and 5 degrees warmer in winter than adjacent inland areas.
