We rent an apartment in Fano Adriano, a medieval village of 400 inhabitants situated in the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga, Italy.
The house is about 150 steps down from the main square of the village, where there are bars, restaurants, the Deer Museum and precious landscapes. For its enviable position amidst the greenery and the mountain rocks, Fano Adriano is an ideal destination for nature lovers, to whom it offers a wide variety of hiking trails along with a wide range of short and medium routes, such as "Selva" and "Merletti", real embroideries of rock, and the "Grotta delle Fate", a mysterious prehistoric site.
A few hundred meters from Fano Adriano there are the famous cliffs called "Vene Rosse", that with their several routes of varying difficulty attracts many mountaineers.
For winter sports passionates there is the well known tourist center of Prato Selva, about 10 km from Fano Adriano. Prato Selva is equipped with large and long runs, three ski-lifts and a chairlift long more than two kilometers that leads to Colle Abetone (1800 meters) on top of which stands the church of the "Alpino".
Prato Selva is also equipped the first bike park in central and southern Italy called "free ride Paradise" ((email hidden)).
Among the main attractions, we remember the "Cannalecchia" fountain which offers fresh therapeutic water since ancient times and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, built in 1335 on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple. A few miles away, on the top of the hill S.Marcello, stands the hermitage "Dell'Annunziata", an ancient pre-Roman temple overlooking the valley of the Vomano.
9 km from the village there is one of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy, Pietracamela, perched on the slopes of the Corno Piccolo mountain and made unique by the characteristic stone houses, the small "streets" and the lovely churches in the Romanesque style that hide rich artistic and religious treasures. At about 4 km away from Pietracamela there is Prati di Tivo, a famous winter resort.
(email hidden) from Fano Adriano there is Cerqueto, a small village rich in art, traditions and rocky landscapes, where you can visit the Romanesque church of S. Egidio Abate, the Castle District and the Folklore Museum.
The village is served by public transport only twice a day and it is recommended to be supplied with a car to visit the attractions around the village. However, if you prefer to spend a relaxing holiday immersed in the tranquility of a mountain village, the car is not necessary and you can reach the village from Teramo through the bus company ARPA ((website hidden)).
