When I called and told him I was on the way he asked me to buy toilet paper and that he would reimburse me, but he never did. We also bought groceries for our stay and he asked to drink some of the sweet tea we had and I didn't mind till eventually I saw that the whole container was consumed with us not even getting a single sip of it. He did however buy another for us, but there was no prior knowledge that it would all be gone or that it even was; we had to find out on our own when we looked in the frig. In addition, he had an unfortunate accident that has him currently in a wheel chair, my guest and I didn't find that out till he greeted us at the door. I feel as though he could have communicated that to us before we got there cause maybe it would have made us more understanding that it could have been a result of the house not being as tidy as the pictures. The house was a complete mess, except for the room we would be occupying. But the kitchen and the bathroom should be the cleanest rooms in the house, but they were the filthiest. There were like 3-4 other guys there occupying the bathroom and the kitchen, as well as the living room. The other guests weren't cleaning up after themselves. And between him and them they used most of the toilet tissue I bought. Which brings me to my next issue with the bathroom being inconveniently all the way on the other side of the house. Furthermore, we mainly booked his home for the pool table and the pool; only to not be able to really use them. The pool table was pushed in the corner with a sheet over it, and the cats were laying on it. I mentioned it to him then I went ahead and moved the table myself, as well as vacuumed it because of the cat hair all over it and managed to use it twice. But there was also a pocket missing. The swimming pool was dirty and he mentioned that it would be cleaned for our week stay, but it didn't. The room was really hot and I wasn't expecting that; my guest said because it may had been an added on room which could be a result of why the a/c wasn't circulating to us. We couldn't use the fan on the ceiling because it didn't work properly and contained dust, we ended up buying a fan for our stay as well. We didn't care that there wasn't a tv. The shower and toilet wasn't a pleasant place to freshen up and neither was the kitchen for cooking being that we had to clean dishes and wipe down the stove before we used them. What makes this all bad is that I informed him of everything we'd be doing while we were...

Response from Derek:
Wow! What is shocking is you did not communicate ANY of these concerns with me. You just kept a smile and said nothing. I strive to provide a nice place for my guests (as is evident in previous reviews.) You and I got the pool table back into position so you could use it, I swept from my wheelchair, and the pool was always available for your use. I use it often for physical therapy until I recover completely. My apologies that my temporary condition has affected your vacation so much. Besides your room, there is ONE other guest room housing a maximum of 2 other guests. They were two quiet German guys whom spent most of the day out in the city. I did tell them to be more tidy and they only seemed to understand this after a few days. If you're looking for a pristine, secluded space, spend some more money on a private apartment or home. You don't seem like the type whom enjoys sharing. And this is what this is, a rented ROOM in a functioning household. By all means, spend $200/night on a hotel instead of the $30 you paid. Again, communicate your concerns with your host to receive the best treatment. I will take care of my guests. Don't hold it all in for the review. Thanks.

Well, where to begin...our stay at Derek's was pretty zen. It was definitely sweet getting greeted by a cute kitten cat every morning, and then having the chance to have some funny conversations with the host himself. I'd definitely encourage future vacationers to play some 'bubble pop' music around the house, no sarcasm intended. Derek was very helpful and answered any questions I had about Miami and other things. I totally recommend this place!

The place was great! Derek was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay especially the pool. Thanks for the mangos as well! I am not a cat person but Thomas and Kitten were the cutest cats, didn't mind them at all. Would definitely return!
