About this listing
This cozy upstairs wooden loft can be setup as twin or double (please tell us how you prefer it), with appropriate mosquito net(s) and individual reading lamps. The room has windows to three sides, with view to the shared swimming pool and garden. Daily breakfast included. We are 1km north of Sanur, reachable by the beach-side boulevard (walkway / cycle lane). We have bicycles that you can borrow for free-use too (a security deposit is required & refundable).
This cosy upstairs bedroom of "Bale Gede" or central pavilion can be set up as twin beds or a double bed with appropriate mosquito nets and individual reading lamps. It shares the downstairs living room and use of the bathroom and toilet adjacent to the shared swimming pool.
Guests have access to a shared poool (with its own bathroom & toilet) as well as the shared kitchen and dining room. Breakfast is included, and you can join communal lunches and dinners with overnight notice. Shared parking space is available for guests coming from the main road. There is also a separate access to the beach which is usually locked from the inside.
Interaction with Guests
We invite you to join the table at breakfast time (7:30 - 9 am). If you prefer to have your breakfast later you'll find it in the fridge with your name on it. Do tell us what kind of breakfast you like.
Just over 100m to a surf beach that is popular wiith locals on Sundays, attracting a range of snack vendors, the neighborhood is relatively quiet and peaceful during the week, yet close enough to walk to Sanur, and easily access most parts of Bali via the Ngurah Rai and Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass roads. We can arrange driver with a car or rental motorbike, or bicycles with prior warning.
The ocean-side pathway (ideal for walking or cycling) connects south all the way through Sanur to Blanjong, and north to the Ayung rivermouth temple. Otherwise it's more practical to get around by car or motorbike (rental available, we can help arrange) as our access road connects to the Ngurah Rai Bypass - 2km to Sanur, 6km to Denpasar, 25km to Ubud. The airport can be reached in 15 to 30 minutes with the new toll road. If you land before 8PM, you can catch the Sarbagita bus from the airport to our neighbourhood. Best you hop off at the bus stop AFTER the Sanur KFC traffic lights. We are happy to pick you up there (but you'll need to phone us when you get there).
Guests are expected to keep noise levels low for other residents. First-time guests are expected to arrive during daylight hours unless having arranged to meet or be picked up at the Sanur KFC / Airport. Once settled in, guests are to help ensure the beach and pool gates are latched.
Kadek and his mother Sarita were great about making the check in process easy and they were very nice and welcoming. They gave us great advice on transportation options, and even though we arrived a little later than planned Sarita was gracious enough to wait up for us and make us feel welcome. None of the drivers seem to know how to find the place, but Kadek wrote out great instructions in English and Balinese.
The attic was great, just like the picture. Make sure you tell them how you want the beds arranged before hand because they have a two twins or one queen option. The breeze flows nicely through the room and you can hear the ocean from your beds, which are nice and comfy.
The rest of the listing was very comfortable. They have a nice shared bathroom downstairs which was well-maintained and had hot water and great aesthetic appeal. There are a lot of open spaces for socializing, so it's a great place if you choose to spend the day in. It has a great view of a field where locals fly kites and the beach is like a 5 minute walk away. Breakfast is a very social event and we met a lot of interesting and kind people over meals.
The location is a little remote from the main city of Sanur. It's not in a big touristy area which is nice but also makes getting around on foot a little more difficult. You can walk to the beach which has black sand and gorgeous waves but also some litter which is common to Bali in general. There's a little cart up the street that sells coconuts, but walking into town takes about 45 minutes so a motor bike or cab is ideal. Sarita is happy to call a cab for you when she's there, but she does other things during the day so plan ahead. A cab to the some of the nearby food places and ATM is only about $3 USD so it's a great option.
Overall it was a great visit and we were very happy we chose to stay with Kadek and would gladly do it again.
Place is good for short stay with minimal stuff and is cozy enough for 2 people. Its not great for special vacation and bit pricey as well. The road to reach the place is scary enough and is not walk-able after 6 p.m. We need to use the motorcycle to commute anywhere into Sanur except for beach.
Thanks for your input, Raghu! Glad you and your wife enjoyed your honeymoon on the motorbike around Bali. We do recommend guests come during daylight to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings and get their bearings, as there is no street lighting in this neighborhood.
My stay with Kadek & his family was exceptional. My flight didn't get in to Bali until late in the night, but with his help I had a driver arranged and a night watchman was waiting for me to let me in the property immediately when I got there.
While breakfast is included, his family also provides the option to eat lunch and dinner with them for a very low price. The food was great and the company was even better. For an authentic Bali experience I would definitely recommend this property. I only stayed for a few days, but I mentioned it was my birthday on the day I left and they even gave me a little birthday gift.
The property is absolutely beautiful as you can see the ocean and watch kites dance across the sky from the sitting areas. I stayed in the attic and found the bed comfortable and the room perfect for a single traveler.
Will be back if I return to Bali!
Dear Kristen, I'm glad you enjoyed your few days in Sanur with us. You're welcome back anytime.
For future guests, if you're staying in one of the listings that is part of our home, do note that we generally require guests to arrive during daylight hours so we can show you the place.
If you're arriving late for the first time, we insist you use a driver that knows our place and our night watchman so they can show you in. We love our beauty sleep :-) Our days start quite early, and we look forward to seeing you at the breakfast table!
We didn't get to meet Kadek, he was out of the country, but I got to meet his lovely family that helped us with everything we needed and made us feel comfortable. When they were not there there was always someone else to help.
The room is as beautiful as in the pictures and so is the rest of the place, great view and gorgeous swimming pool.
We were supposed to stay one night but when we saw the place we booked one more immediatly :-)
We didn't get to meet Kadek but we met his super friendly family that made us feel at home.
The room is like in the photos, can be warm but the fan helps during the night. The bathroom is shared, a beautiful outdoors bathroom and always clean.
The swimming pool is amazing and a good way to refresh after a day walking around Sanur.
The beach is just behind the house, you can walk there but at night i would recommend coming by the main street with a taxi-make sure you read the directions most of the drivers didn't know how to find it.
Thank you again for your hospitality, Sarita, and for making us feel at home.
Kadek and his mum are wonderful. Great place and as described in the listing. Nothing but the best here.

About the Host, Kadek
Born and raised in Bali until graduating from highschool, I pursued tertiary education in New Zealand and Canada. I'm now living in Bali where I manage my grandfather's homestay. This AirBnB account is created mostly to help my mum (born in NZ, has lived in Bali for over 40 years) get guests for her BnB.
