We enjoyed our brief stay here. Ryan and Yoni were great hosts. The house is set on beautiful grounds but was a little closer to the highway then we expected. The kitchen was perfect for our needs and they even shared some farm fresh eggs! Ryan and Yoni gave us a great tour of the grounds and the location is really close to a lot of great sites to explore during your stay.
Lovely house just as pictured and with really beautiful grounds. Yonnie and Ryan were very welcoming and helpful. We were there three days and wish we could have stayed longer - we didn't get to half the places in the area that we wanted to!
A couple of comments - the wifi requires a device with a USB port so we could not use it with our iPad and iPhones. Also the hot water in the shower is very tricky!
We stayed at Chris's place for few days and it was great. Although we did not get to meet Chris personally(as he was away on expeditions) but he made sure that all was set up and ready to go. His attendants, Ryan and Yonee were absolutely great and entertaining. Place was comfortable and almost as rural as it gets, away from everything but yet reasonably close and within reach to essentials. We enjoyed company of Ryan and Yonee so much that we took them with us for full 2 days during excursions. Place was well equipped and it felt just like being home. The farm and operation was neat and well organized. I just could tell and feel that Chris loves what he does without having to ever meet him in person.
If you like the natural and rustic way of rural living surrounded by nature, you will love this place. Otherwise if you are expecting all groomed surrounding geared towards wall-mart type crowd, Google sun quest vacations or similar.
I would stay in his place again if I find myself in this serene and quiet part of the world.
Two thumbs up!
The Colonial Farm House was lovely and we enjoyed being in the Valley Community, where we were able to get to know Chris' friends Don Pedro, Windell and Raquel. They were all very helpful and friendly. Raquel and Windell have a fantastic cafe. The house is a convenient location for access to cave tubing off of Western Highway, zipline at Bocwina off of Hummingbird Highway, and a half hour drive from Hopkins, probably the most relaxed and easiest place we visited in Belize. Chris is a wealth of knowledge about the country and is a very good host.
Staying on the farm was amazing! A great way to really get an authentic Belizean experience. I felt truly at home there surrounded by the beauty of the jungle. Chris and his family have a cozy home plenty of space, nice kitchen we used to prepare meals which helped a lot. We got around using the local buses which stop just outside the farm, very convenient. It's a small village the locals were friendly and welcoming. Chris is a professional tour guide and recommended plenty for us to do, the blue hole, at Herman's cave billy barquedier waterfall all just a few miles down the road .. My favorite memory at house was listening to Chris's bossa nova CDs in the evenings , I would love to return next chance I get
