Vermont is so beautiful in all seasons!
Here's what you can expect to see in our area:

In SUMMER, the resident broad-winged hawk soars overhead, and the flower gardens are blooming all around the house. There are always gentle cool breezes blowing here. You're welcome to sit out on the deck or porch and enjoy the gardens and the view. You can jump on the trampoline! You can explore the woods around our house and up to the ridge. We know beautiful trails to hike, with amazing views, waterfalls, lovely 1/2hr to 1 hr strolls through the forest, rigorous 2-4 hr mountain hikes with rocky tops and firetowers. We also have recommendations for kayaking, canoeing, swimming in our many rivers and lakes. You can bike ride on our national award winning recreation path and or tackle the forest trails. You can rent all the equipment you need, bring your own, or even take a guided tour. You can explore Vermont's tallest peak, take a gondola ride, a glider ride, a zipline ride, go shopping at our 60 shops, eating at our 40 restaurants, and don't forget Ben & Jerry's!

AUTUMN brings harvest festivals and Octoberfests in town, and the changing leaves on the mountainsides. Geese honk overhead and the woods turn a glorious shade of orange. The farmer's markets are full of harvest foods, and you can visit breweries, wineries, antique shops, and stroll the village. There are lantern tours on selected fall nights in Stowe! Driving up Mt. Mansfield and hiking the ridge, or taking the gondola up are popular ways to look at the leaves, in addition to many scenic drives (with covered bridges!), walks, and hikes.

NOVEMBER LOCAL'S SECRET - The light is beautiful in this month as the sun angles lower in our northern latitude. You can see deeply into the forest now that the leaves are gone, and the sunlight makes beautiful patterns on the trunks of trees. Walks and hikes are lovely. The moss and ferns glow green on the rocks and boulders. Single yellow birch trees stand out on the purple/grey mountainside. The valleys are dry, warm, and snow free, with cyclists, hikers, bikers enjoying the pavement and trails, but the mountain tops are beautifully kissed with snow and frost. You may be able to catch some early skiing. Restaurants have specials galore. Shopping is amazing - with deep discounts and sales from the summer season. Music, galleries, and theater are all happening. Breweries are open for tours. Vermonters hold locals' festivals. Everyone is in a relaxed, happy mood. Come visit!

In WINTER, while the winter wonderland snow piles up outside, our house is super warm and full of light - sunshine pours in the windows of the kitchen and diningroom, and we have a gas fired "woodstove" as well. We get tons of snow! Sledding down our driveway is fun. You can even jump off the deck if there's enough snow. We have sleds, and you're welcome to sled anywhere around the house. You can even jump on the trampoline in winter - great fun! We work in the ski industry at Stowe Mtn. Resort, so we can give you tips if you are skiing and riding there - it's the best on the East Coast! You can also ice skate, cross country ski, go on sleigh rides, and go dogsledding here in Stowe.

APRIL LOCAL'S SECRET - Once again, the light is lovely in this month as spring returns to the mountains. While the valleys are greening up, snow remains on the mountain tops, creating a beautiful tableau. The maple sugarhouses are steaming with boiling sap into maple syrup! They often have tours and samples. You may be able to catch some late season spring skiing. You'll see cyclists returning to their scenic routes in the valleys. Restaurants have specials galore - we even have a whole statewide dedicated restaurant week. Shopping is amazing - with deep discounts and sales from the winter season. Music, galleries, and theater are all happening. Breweries are open for tours. Vermonters hold locals' festivals, such as maple sugar festival. Everyone is in a relaxed, happy mood. Daffodils are blooming and the trees are budding out.

Come visit and enjoy quiet and peace in Vermont's nature paradise! Don't hesitate to ask us any questions or contact us at any time for more information. Thank you for taking a look at our place, and we hope to see you soon!

  • Steve and Heidi's place is the perfect getaway! We had a relaxing weekend, enjoyed the beautiful views, and had a blast sledding. They gave us tons of tips on where to eat and what to see in Stowe - they are super kind and caring hosts! If you're planning a trip to Vermont, this is the place to stay. We can't wait to visit again with family and friends :) Thank you Steve and Heidi!

    March 2014
  • Steve and Heidi were very friendly and accommodating. Great hosts and they do not hesitate to help either. I had trouble getting up their snowy road and they went out of their way to help shuttle me and to get around at night. I am very grateful to them. The room and bath were very nice and the views are beautiful. Everything was super clean and layer out wonderfully. It was great sharing a little time with Steve and Miles and it was lovely meeting Heidi briefly. They are a wonderful family and I truly enjoyed my stay. Thinking I will bring the whole family next time!

    February 2014
  • Thank you so much Heidi and Steve for accommodating Katie and I. We enjoyed our stay! Love the trampoline in the snow!

    February 2014
  • Staying at the treetop was a wonderful experience with all-around loving and attentive hosts. Highly recommended!

    January 2014
  • This is my second time staying with Steve and Heidi. It was another wonderful experience as they are gracious hosts with a great house near the Stowe resort.

    January 2014
  • Steve and Heidi provide a cozy, warm, happy room (we stayed in the treetops hawks view) to spend the night. They bed was comfy, the bathroom was phenomenal with a two person tub and fabulous double headed shower... And we were greeted with complimentary wine and chocolate truffles. Can't say enough about this place... Also, the raw honey at breakfast was the best thing I have ever eaten. Thanks for everything Steve and Heidi! We'll definitely be back!

    January 2014
  • Thank you Heidi and Steve for such a wonderful place to stay for our trip to Stowe. Their home is beautiful, relaxing, and so comfortable. We appreciated all the information and recommendations that Heidi provided and we plan to stay with them again in the spring or summer months!

    January 2014
  • My girlfriend and I were looking to get away for the weekend and Steve and Heidi's place was the perfect escape. The private room and bath were great, the views were incredible and Steve and Heidi were very welcoming hosts. They were very knowledgeable about the area and had great suggestions for whatever we were interested. When they were not around, their children were just as friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet get away in Vermont

  • We went to Vermont to get away, relax, hike, and see some beautiful scenery. We did all that and more. Heidi and Steve's beautiful home has such a peaceful feeling about it, with warm sunlight, a grand piano, and an awesome kitchen that they were kind enough to let us use. We were able to prepare a delicious homecooked meal (courtesy of my boyfriend) and then just relax. We woke up to our first snowfall of this winter, a light dusting across the treestops visible through the window. After breakfast, Heidi and Steve suggested places to hike, and it was the perfect hike for us.
We can't wait for ski season, or any season for that matter - Vermont is beautiful year-round, and we would stay here again. From a sweet welcome sign on the door, to a welcome info package with an insider's perspective of things to do in the area, cutely folded towel sets in that serene, I'll call it a bathing room, and the smell of coffee in the morning, Heidi and Steve were consummate hosts with subtle touches of graciousness.

About
Welcome to our home! We're happy to meet you! When you're here, our home is your home. We are a family of five: Steve, Heidi, Oliver (19), Miles (13), and Emily (9). Our family passions are art, music, community, nature, technology, wilderness, local food, fun, and fitness. Steve runs a non-profit community arts organization in Morrisville called River Arts ((website hidden)) and Heidi home schools Miles and Emily. Oliver is a freshman at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. We love hiking and trail running the mountains, swimming, cycling, lacrosse, soccer, rowing, ice hockey. We are all avid skiiers and snowboarders (Heidi was an instructor trainer at Killington for 10yrs and Steve has been a private instructor at Stowe for 16yrs). We know the area well so if you stay while we are around, we can tell you all the best little spots to go, summer or winter. We are also musicians. Steve (accordion) and Heidi (flute, guitar, voice) have played in Celtic bands ("Natterjack" and "Wind that Shakes the Barley" - find them on iTunes) while Oliver, Miles, and Emily are all violinists and pianists and all part of the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association in Burlington, Vermont. Heidi and Steve met in high school in New Hampshire and both went to Williams College, majoring in anthropology, psychology, and history. We've always been interested in how other cultures live - how their grow their food, make art and music, raise their families, build their houses, nourish their souls, and live in community. We traveled the world after college. We especially loved Thailand, and we lived in New Zealand for a year. There we worked at ski areas and in summer, worked as WWOOFERs (willing workers on organic farms). We spent ten years working at Killington as ski instructors and trainers. Heidi has a master's degree in counseling from Lesley University. We spent two six-month summers in British Columbia living in our van, traveling, building houses on Indian reservations and joining the First Nations people on their canoe journeys. We also worked as ocean kayak guides, taking along our little toddler Oliver. We moved to the Stowe area about 16 years ago to be closer to where Heidi grew up and her family still lives - the farmland, woodland and mountains of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. We've invested what we've learned and what we care about to give back to our family, our art, and our local community. Now that we're more settled, with our three-kid family, we "travel" by hosting our fantastic guests from all over. Our guests have been so much fun to get to know. Please come visit us! We'd love to hear where you're going, how you're living and what you're doing. Online, find (email hidden)/steveames and (website hidden). If you have any questions feel free to contact us!
