Interaction with Guests
We - the hosts - live downstairs and we gladly help you with all the questions you have concerning the Island.
Whenever guests need us we are there to help them and to give advice concerning excursions, practical things as where to find a bank, pharmacist, doctor, .....
The streets in our part of the town are only 1,50 m wide, it is very quiet and yet you are only a 3 minute walk away from the centre from the old town with his restaurants, shops, kafenions...
Supermarket around the corner.
It happens to us quite often, after being at home for a few days enjoying the house; the feeling that when you walk around the corner and say to yourself 'hey there are still other people in this place.' It’s quite strange that it can be so quite in the hart of the old town.
Busstation with connection to Chania (Airport)or Heraklion (Airport) is at 10 minutes walk.
There is a 24 hours guarded parking area at 2 minutes walk.
Transport from and to the airport can be discussed when necessary.
Other Things to Note
Several low budget airline companies fly to Heraklion and Chania, they offer interesting prizes but there is also a limited baggage weight.
At Palia Porta we found a kind of solution(s) :
-You do not need to bring beach towels, we have enough of them as well as a beach bag (s).
-We lend you a cooler bag to keep your drinks cold as you explore the island.
-There’s a trunk full of toys for the children, as puzzles, crayons, colouring books, Duplo, dolls, …. Even as beach toys
-In addition to the usual toilet soap shampoo, shower gel, we provide also in tooth brush and toothpaste (in case of long stay), lotions, luxury products, paper handkerchiefs,...
-FIRST AID box is also available, as well as first aid kit (read needle and thread) for the button which fell off of your favourite blouse.
On simple demand we wash your laundry.
-On your departure we give you a takeaway package (sandwiches), in case of long stay, which you can enjoy during your flight.
If you choose for Palia Porta you have enough weight in your suitcase leftover for all the things that really matter.
Helping people spend the holiday of their life is what we live for.

RESPECT and HOSPITALITY – two words that are invented here in CRETE
RESPECT - To get it - You must give it !
Fantastic stay at Palio Porta. Dominique and Eddy took hospitality to a whole new level. The house is lovely, though probably bigger than what we - a couple - required, but we enjoyed the space and home-like atmosphere. Our hosts live downstairs and are very responsive to our needs and questions, while not infringing on our privacy in the least. Breakfast is sensational. Dominique even packed us a picnic brunch when we had to leave early for the Samaria Gorge walk. Would absolutely recommend the place to anyone looking to experience Rethymnon from a centrally located and historically significant house.
Heerlijk logeren! Super ontvangst, heerlijk ontbijt, zalig slapen op een mooie locatie! Het was top!
Dominique and Eddy's villa was an absolutely superb place to stay!
When we arrived, we were welcomed with a delicious plate of mezze, and shown everything we needed to know about the villa.
The villa itself is very spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished. It has absolutely everything you might need for cooking, going to the beach, or relaxing in front of the tv. It is located on a quiet street in the heart of the old town.We had a hired car and parked in the nearby guarded lot for 25€/4 days.
Dominique and Eddy were fantastic hosts, and the breakfasts were truly special. We really didn't want to leave and I can wholeheartedly recommend staying here!
Staying with Dominique, Eddy and Stephanie was a delightful experience. The accommodation was very spacious and situated in a wonderful historic building. There were two separate bedrooms and bathrooms as well as ample living areas (one bedroom became light very early in the morning, so if you are unused to sleeping without curtains, then I would recommend packing eye shades). Dominique and Eddy were very generous with their time, picking us up and dropping us off at the bus station, and cooking us incredibly delicious food. They were such lovely hosts and I highly recommend staying with them. Thank you!
The best place to stay in Rethymno!
Palia Porta is a great place to stay both in terms of location and facilities. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. From free wifi to even beach equipment you can borrow!
You are literally in the middle of the classy beautiful parts of the old town, a stones throw from the beach.
What made our trip even more special were Dominique and Eddy. Their hospitality is flawless and they go out of their way to make your stay special. Dominiques culinary skills are amazing and we loved the large variety breakfast, which had a different special each day!!
The guys are really helpful and when my husband was poorly they really looked after us.
We will definitely be returning and cannot commend the accommodation and hosts enough!
Dominique, Eddy, and Stephanie were amazing hosts! They were warm and welcoming. Dominique fixed us a plate of mezes which made a perfect light dinner after a long travel day, and the breakfasts that she made were gourmet, plentiful, and delicious! Eddy was very helpful with travel advice and tips about the island. The apartment is also wonderful: spacious, charming, and comfortable. Every detail is taken care of: The kitchen has all of the utensils you'd need to cook and the bathrooms are full of lots of toiletries. There are even beach towels, water shoes, and coolers for a day at the beach! And the location is perfect for exploring Rethymno because the apartment is in the middle of a quiet street in the old city. We can't wait to return and would definitely recommend staying with Dominique, Eddy, and Stephanie!
