A Relaxing Retreat in the Fabulous Florida Keys - enjoy island life like a local.
Tom and I have been working, loving and sharing this land for over 30 years. We are delighted to be able to share the tranquility of this magical place we call home with you. Our large deck overlooking the Great White Heron Wildlife Refuge is wonderful for sharing coffee, meals, bird watching, and conversation or simply relaxing.
Your stay Includes: abundant filtered water, freshly brewed coffee or tea service each morning in the kitchen 730 -10am; a dedicated shelf in refrigerator; the use of our toaster and m/wave. NOTE: Meals are available upon request.
White sandy beaches are nearby: Bahia Honda State Park at Mile Marker 37 (20miles/30 minutes) and Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in Key West (19+miles/30-45minutes).
Biking trails and walking wilderness rambles are available on our island.
Mariposa Retreat provides a fragrance free environment that includes soap (organic), shampoo and conditioner - all unscented; fresh cotton sheets and fluffy bath linens, beach towels and a beach blanket. And we have a spacious outdoor hot/cold shower to enjoy any time!
Local restaurants offer breakfast, lunch and dinner in a range of cuisine and price points. Our “House Manual” for booked guests includes a restaurant list and an extensive list of our locally owned health food stores from Key West to Marathon - all of which have their own cafe. We can provide meals here at Mariposa upon request. It’s best if you request meals in advance so we can offer you more options.

Ahh! The calm and quiet of Mariposa were just what we needed. Midge and Tom were welcoming. Loved Tom's coffee! We enjoyed the beautiful view from their deck over the water and conservation land (depending on the weather, you might have to share the deck with the bugs) . The pristine cleanliness of the room and the all-cotton bedding and towels were comforting. The 30-minute ride into Key West was beautiful on the days we chose to make the drive. Definitely recommend Mariposa. Also recommend you read the house rules prior to booking to make sure they fit your travel needs.
Midge and Tom provided a serene and thoughtful experience. The Earth and Sea Farm gave us a glimpse into another aspect of the Keys that many travelers are unaware of. Their focus on detail covered our needs. Conversation was stimulating and informative. I hope to retain a connection for further dialogue.
What a great place to stay in the Keys! The room feels cozy and every detail is well thought out. Everything about this place says peace and positive energy. We wish we could have stayed longer to learn more about sustainable living from Midge who is a walking encyclopedia. Sure beats any hotel in the Keys!
our stay at the mariposa retreat was truly wonderful! the room was cozy and clean, and midge was very helpful and welcoming. i would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice and quiet stay in the keys.
We had a most relaxing stay at this very private home in the Florida Keys. Beautiful views! Wonderfully comfortable bedroom and bath- very private. Access to a beautiful kitchen. Easy drive to places that are a must (Bahia Honda state park for example). Easy drive to Key West and the beaches. We loved this place! Nothing but rave reviews.
Our 3-nights-stay with Midge & Tom was wonderful! They are such warm, helpful and friendly hosts who simply make you feel welcomed. The farm is located in a beautiful area within the Great White Heron Wildlife Refuge, a perfect spot to relax! Nevertheless, it’s only a short drive to Key West and Bahia Honda. We especially enjoyed living so close to nature, watching the sunset and the stars at night and having breakfast (fresh papaya and great coffee!) on the porch. The room is spacious, nicely decorated, totally clean and very private. Midge gave us an interesting tour of the farm and Tom lent us their bikes for a trip around the Wildlife Refuge. Right now, we are enjoying the smoked sea salt that we purchased at the farm – so tasty! Thanks a lot for a great airbnb experience!
他们都很热情，家位于偏僻的地方但是离Southernmost Point 也不到半小时。当我们去的时候天气有点冷，所以屋里也比较冷。房主多给我们被，还开了会儿暖气。总的来说去住几天也是不错的。
Our stay at Mariposa was wonderful. Midge and Tom were extremely warm, welcoming, and inviting, so that we felt at home for our few days stay. Beautiful view from the deck, nice room, and a nice quiet rural location, but fairly quick journey to Key West as well. Midge and Tom were helpful with tips and questions. Highly recommended for a visit to the Keys or a quiet retreat space.
We stayed with Midge and Tom just 6 days ago. It has been such a delightful stay with them. Everything is a small 'adventure' and a very intersting story around their premises and the farm.
The welcome, the room and the nice encounter was perfect. Everything regarding the booking was clear and we did receive proper information about directions and them.
Please take that opportunity. I wish I could come again soon and stay longer. A bit far from Switzerland...
...but soon again
A lovely and peaceful place. Midge and Tom are living and working closely with the nature, and are very warm and considerate hosts. They provided everything we needed, including good coffee in the morning (thanks again!) and interesting conversations, however also went out of their way to ensure enough privacy. With the private entrance and bathroom, it is almost like staying in your own apartment. This was our first visit to the keys, and since we came to enjoy the nature, it was the right place to stay. Highly recommended!
