About this listing
This brand new chalet (built 2012) is perched above the car free village of MURREN in the Bernese Oberland outside charming Interlaken. This superb apartment is the upper floor of Chalet Snowbird, our best apartment of the 5 we offer. It has a spacious vaulted open beamed wood ceiling and large windows that look across the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley with its 72 waterfalls to the North Face of the Eiger and the Jungfrau Massif, the best view of any chalet rental in Murren. There is a Master Bedroom with a king bed and 2 walk in closets leading to the bathroom with shower and tub. In the living room, there is a spiral staircase which leads up to a higher loft level that has 3 single beds so it comfortably accommodates 5 people.
The spiffy fully equipped modern kitchen has granite counter tops, dishwasher, 4 burner stove and oven. The fridge has a freezer. There is a bar with bar stools. The chalet features a spacious living room and dining area with a wood burning stove and radiant floor heating. You'll have access to a washer/dryer. There is a balcony with table and chairs and the very best view of any chalet rental in Murren. In the winter it is ski in/ski out offering ski lockers for our guests. If you plan to return, you can even leave your skis in these lockers!
Our Property Manager will come by to welcome you and to collect a 4.60CHF p.p. per day kurtaxe which pays for the Sports Center and its huge indoor swimming pool. It also pays to maintain the great hiking paths found all around/below/above the village.
Murren is a typical Swiss village, a GREAT escape from the hectic busy-ness of cities below.
We're adjacent to a wildlife preserve, with daily sightings of graceful charming Chamois, so we cannot accommodate dogs or cats.
If you want spacious, quiet, private, cozy and spectacular, this place is for you. World famous hiking and skiing are at the doorstep. And a Peace you've never before experienced.
To access the chalet, you will take the BLM cable car from Lauterbrunnen, via Grutschalp. Turn right when leaving the Murren train station and enter 2nd historic chalet on left side of road. Here are lockers where you can store your skis/boards et al, before ascending an outdoor stairway of 60 steps to Chalet SnowBird. At the chalet, you are rewarded with the best view of the Eiger North Wall & Jungfrau Massif that Murren has to offer! You will have access to a clothes washer/dryer which you share with people in the upstairs apartment.
Other Things to Note
There is a 7 night minimum (Saturday to Saturday) over the 2 week Christmas/New Years holiday period and during February. The rest of the year has a 3 night minimum. If you stay less than 3 nights, there will be a 3 night charge, which still makes us more affordable than most hotels.
Please treat our home and our nice furniture as you would treat yours at home. And please enjoy the beauty that is Murren and enjoy all that there is to enjoy in this spectacular place.
Thanks for such a wonderful stay in Murren! Both Beat and Dave were very accommodating and we loved the Snowbird Chalet. Everything was just as advertised, but only better with well-thought out accommodations and great Wi-Fi. The view from the Chalet is absolutely breath-taking and we highly recommend staying here. Also, recommendations from Beat for things to do such as the Via Ferrata and dinner at the Eiger Guesthouse (friendly staff) were outstanding. Thanks Beat, Dave, and Nancy for a wonderful family vacation - we hope to return back to Murren soon!
Beat introduced himself shortly after our arrival, and welcomed us. The Upper Snowbird chalet, was spacious, clean and very well equipped. The private unit has a spectacular view that is indescribable and cannot be captured in a photo.
Thank you John. You had printed materials in the apartment regarding village facilities and hiking maps. You also had free access to the Sports Center, as pointed out in the Welcome Letter, covered by the Kurtaxe that we
paid for you so we are confused . We appreciated your staying with us, and hope you'll return some day and stay longer!
My family and I had a wonderful time at Chalet Snowbird. The view from the balcony was breathtaking -- we were lucky enough to have great weather and could see the north wall of jungfrau clearly. The house is very clean and new and is fully equipped with cooking utensils (only drawback was the absence of a microwave). Murren is a wonderful little town, perfect for hiking as well. Thank you Nancy for letting us stay at your beautiful chalet!
Upper Snowbird chalet was beyond what we had expected. The chalet is generously proportioned with a fully functional kitchen, large lounge area, well appointed bathroom and toilet. Excellent central heating with the option of a wood fire.
The view is spectacular and I would return any day to have another fill of it.
The managers, Carline and Dave live next door and were very helpful and friendly. They made our stay more personal.
The chalet is best set up for a family or one couple. The upstairs is open to the lounge area - mezzanine style so another couple has limited privacy. For one couple however I have no complaints.
The apartment and its views were amazing. It was a very short walk from the train station. The mountain views out the windows and off the balcony/porch were breathtaking! The apartment was very new and clean. We had enough bath towels for everyone and kitchen towels were provided too. There were plenty of cooking utensils, and we even found things like salt, pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar in the cupboards.
There were 5 of us and plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The loft area where three of us slept was nice, but the ceiling was low in some spots and the spiral staircase was narrow and a bit slippery. Regardless, we managed and spent most of our time in the common areas anyway.
There was a fire place and a grill and we made good use of both.
I would definitely recommend this apartment. :)
This was an absolutely beautiful apartment with a stunning view. We travel frequently and often stay in apartments, and this one had the best kitchen of all. It did lack a microwave, but the stove and oven were fantastic and the dishes an knives and measuring cups(!) were top notch. In fact, I loved the pans so much, I wanted to know what brand they were so I could buy some.
There are a couple of things to think about before renting though. First, is the stairs. 60 of them, straight up the mountain. No problem for us, but if you've got knee problems, don't stay here. (We got super lucky, as Dave was just finishing shoveling the stairs when we got there and he carried my heavy suitcases up the stairs! He was awesome).
The other caution is that there is no door to the upstairs loft bedroom, which means that we had to go to bed when we put the kids to bed--we couldn't stay up and watch TV or use the living room because the light annoyed our little obnoxious darlings, who in turned annoyed us.
Mürren is my favorite town in Switzerland and I'd absolutely rent this chalet again the next time we come to town. It truly is fabulous.
We had a fantastic stay at Chalet Snowbird. The view is amazing and the the chalet is warm, comfortable and well stocked with everything you need to cook and stay for awhile. Only wish we could have stayed longer. We had a foot of fresh snow followed by a blue bird day, does not get any better than that! We were able to ski from the ski area down to the chalet.
Thank you for your positive comments. Your problem with the locks on the ski locker is puzzling. The key code for your apt. should have been the same as the ski locker. Is that what you tried? We're delighted you got a foot of fresh snow followed by a Blue Bird Day!
